Well, alt costumes are either

a) absolutely confirmed - why should Wario be the only character with an alt?

b) absolutely deconfirmed - each character has to be modeled twice, which would take up a lot of time for the graphics designers, so they only did Wario.


I'm leaning toward the first. Honestly, why would Sakurai favor Wario so much? Every character has at least one possible alt, and Wario might just have it by default - perhaps the others have to be unlocked.

Remember, Sakurai is known for his unclear wording sometimes, 'Up until now' being a perfect example. There's plenty of ways to twist "Wario alone is special" into including other characters without it being an outright lie.

Note 2: Samus has the "Fusion Suit" simply as an alt color, this seems to imply that an alt costume is truly a Wario exclusive thing.

At this point it seems only like wishful thinking that other characters than Wario can costume change, but I wouldn't be surprised if a few others attain this ability maybe through unlock ables or something. Wario legitimately needed this clothing change, I think most people can see why. I'm not going to start hyperventilating at the thought of a Lucas/Ness costume change just yet though.

Yeah, it's kind of tricky thinking, Wario has adopted his WarioWare look as his main one, and his classic overalls have become his alternative clothing. It somewhat separates him from the Mario series when he's wearing his biker clothing.

This isn't even half as unclear as "Up until now". This is flat out "Wario alone". I don't know how he could have said it more clearly.

That said, I'm not happy at all to see it go this way. There is SO much they could have done with alternate costumes, that to see it done, but only with one character, just stings even more. I had accepted that alternate costumes were out, but just to see the concept limited like this? It isn't fun to know they thought of it, but didn't get the obvious mileage out of it.

Stuff like this could happen with other characters. Certain Fire Emblem Playable characters could look like other Fire Lords from the series with alternate outfits and altnerate looks. There could be alternate Ike looks NOT at E for All, as the E for All demo of Brawl will probably be little like the final game, other then pyhsics. Look at Melee for example, and the demos and actual game were VERY, VERY, VERY diffrent (or so I hear! o_O).

There could be other characters, but don't get your hopes up. But the chances of that are basically none. So ya, remember that. Though the smash ball entry was VERY vague like that, and made it seem like you touch it, you get it. Hell, it was that way in Brawl's first showing, too! XD

You know what's really funny, at least to me, and probably only me? Wario is my favorite character, and the one I'm most excited to use. This just made my day.

That being said, I do agree that it would be nice to see this taken on with at least a few other characters, say, Dr. Mario? Ah well, thems the breaks I guess. Personally I wish more characters had hidden taunts like Fox and Falco did on their stages in Melee, but that was something special to them. Perhaps more characters will have special somethings this time around?

The demo is freaking old. The game comes out in one month in Japan. I think it is safe to say the game is finished if not being polished right now. It takes time to print out covers, duplicate the discs, package them, and ship them all over. This update cannot be any clearer. >_>

Think about it, this may be the reason why Wario wasn't playable at E for All.
Which at least means that the ones that were playable in the demo don't have alternates.They were also the ones who had the most potential in that domain.

-Wolf as an Alt. Costume for Fox, the PERFECT way to avoid clones :D (just give him Wolf's name and look)

Diddy Kong had alternate colors, not costumes. You've proven nothing.

yep, probably only Wario gets alts, since he DOES have one other costume that he usually wears from his non-Ware games (aka original games).

Wario is the only Nintendo character who has a completely different costume from one game to the other. No other Nintendo character that I can think of has a drastically different costume used in their adventure games.

I always thought it'd be cool to have a "Tanooki Suit" or a "Frog/HammerBros/Racoon/Caped" Mario costume, keeping his moveset as-is, of course. Probably never gonna happen

If anyone would get an alt costume besides Wario, I would place a bet towards PokemonTrainer. Maybe a "rival" model (as in "Gary/Blue", to counter-suit the "Ash/Red" model). But not likely.

Also, Overalls Wario and WarioWare Wario have distinct images, Diddy and "Dixie" did not.

So is Dr. Mario. It's just Mario in a white Doctor's gown, new same pants, a dr. headband thingy, and a stethascope (or however you say it). While Dixie is a alternate color, Dr. Mario is pretty much the same. Stuff like that isn't too hard to do. In fact, it's probably easy to do, compared to having a gagillion character models like the game has. But it's odd-Wario's skin color changes, his gear is all moved around, and with Dr. Mario it's just added stuff. IDK what Dr. Mario would be considered, but it'd be a nice color swab, since poop Mario doesn't cut it (and it's brown! XD).

Edit: Still...is Dr. Mario a alternate outfit, or a color swab! XD In other words, I am confusededed! ^_^

You are pointing out your own flaws nicely. Making Dr. Mario would require adding pieces to him (long coat, equipment, etc.). No other color change has this to any real extent. Sure, textures change occasionally (like the logos on the back of CFalcon), but actual different costumes are a different story.

Dr. Mario is an alternate costume. See Melee for verification.
