SInce its a general direct I think it will be more mainstream charcters. Predicting we see Incenoroar/Decedieye or Skull Kid with echo's being shadow and isabell. Don't think we will see Issac or geno in this one they seem more like smash direct one's.

Predictions:

As far as Smash goes I expect but a single newcomer reveal, and I'm going to go with Tapu Koko. I'm really confident in saying it'll be a Pokémon, and Tapu Koko remains the one I find the most likely, even with Incineroar breathing down its neck. We might get an echo aswell, but I'm not entirely certain of it, I'll say Ken if any.

For the rest of it I expect lots and lots of talk about the online service and their longterm plans for it. I also think they'll announce the long rumored Link's Awakening remake for the 3DS, aswell as Animal Crossing for the Switch.

I'll stick with my predictions from last week.
I can't say I'm expecting much for this direct. I know a lot of people are tired of seeing Smash take over Nintendo's directs. Then again, it deserves to.

So...

Predict:
  • one Newcomer reveal, maybe one unique and one echo. These will be characters who are well known to the general public like Skull Kid, Isabelle, or a Pokémon.
  • A bit more Pokémon Let's Go information, which will reveal a really cool new feature and immediately follow that up with some annoying new hand-holding feature designed for pants-on-head level noobs.
  • The 3DS keeps getting new content and everyone is shocked that it's not dead yet despite being 7 years old.
  • Switch ports of popular games which fizzled on the WiiU like Mario Maker or Wonderful 101.
  • More minigames revealed for Super Mario Party.
  • K. Rool gets added to a Mario spinoff to capitalize on his newly discovered popularity.
  • More third party AAA ports to Switch
  • Information shown for the Virtual Console online, including an XBOX-esque 'games with gold' mode.
  • Teasers for Metroid Prime 4 and a legit title for Yoshi's Flipping Island.
I really don't think that this direct will have enough information to sate us too long. Hopefully they do start giving us drops more frequently though.

Good luck everyone, hope this turns out well for you!
*praying as hard as possible for Dovahkiin and Tails*
...at least we know that Yoshi's Flipping Island has a much more boring title now, but that's inbound. Also the Civ6 port, Ubi's StarFox game and the sports thing, and they'll even reannounce the Megaman 11 demo.

But considering the new news that just came out today about Bethesda, I'm not going to change my prediction of Isabelle and Skull Kid or Incineroar, but I will definitely acknowledge that my most wanted is now looking at a 1% chance instead of 0%. Improvement... Still praying for Dovahkiin and Tails...
Talos guide you all!

1 unique newcomer and a unrelated echo. I lean towards it being series already in Smash like a newcomer for Pokemon, Kirby, or LoZ paired with an echo like Ken, Isabelle, or Shadow.

If I had to pick a dark horse pick, it'd be Gardevoir with a Gothitelle echo as that could also line up well.

WELP. It was Isabelle. I'm very happy with this!

Cannot wait to destroy Ridley and K. Rool with her, it's going to be amazing.

Weirdly a lot of her moves seem to be from Villager although the site doesn't classify her as an echo, muddying the waters yet further, but she gets a 100% satisfaction rating from me.

Honestly, 0%. I don't really care for Isabelle, but that trailer was so boring, slow, and predictable that I'm just kinda disappointed.

Reminder satisfaction is not until tomorrow.

Also... on the site, she appears to borrow a few moves from villager. She in fact is really looking like a bit of a semi clone. Given her slower trailer, I assume she was a later addition.

Well, that Direct was ****. But there were a few positives.

Luigi’s Mansion 3, hell yes.
Katamari on Switch, cool.
Crystal Chronicles had been announced, but it’s good to see it’s getting a Western release (or is it?)
Animal Crossing was obvious, but still awesome, though I would have appreciated more than a jpeg and a vague release window.

And **** YEAH IT’S ISABELLE. AND SHE’s NOT AN ECHO. Although I was expecting more Smash content, especially after such a disappointing Direct. At least an Echo.

All in all I can’t help but feel that something got cut due to the earthquake or the delay. It felt incomplete.

So we got Isabelle, and she's not an Echo, but she does appear to be somewhat a clone of Villager. Looks kinda like how Ness and Isaac are. This is interesting in some regard as it confirms that not all clone-ish characters will be Echos.

This is... ok. I don't like Villager's moveset, so the fact that she's different is good. Remains to be seen exactly how similar she is, but yeah. Either way, though, not hype or exciting for me, tbh.
Least exciting non-Echo character reveal as of yet, for me. But I did get my three most wanted newcomer characters already (:ultridley::ultkrool::ultsimon:) so that's not exactly a shock.

Luigi's Mansion 3 was a highlight for me, though I wish they'd go back to the original's portrait ghost style. I found them creepier and more interesting.

Isabelle is cute and seeing her I figured it was building up for her to be revealed as the Echo newcomer. Was rather shocked to see her looking unique though turns out she is more semi-clone. I think that's pretty cool for her. I haven't played the series and wasn't exactly rooting for her, but she and AC deserved it.

Sure enough her reveal has brought about doom singers. It wasn't "the fan favorite next in line" so people are starting to freak out and cry. Even the chat had a lot of people asking for Waluigi and complaining it wasn't Waluigi. This does mean things are looking narrower, but I'm sure we're getting at least 2-3 more unique newcomers.

Lastly I'm looking forward to people finding out what posts Isabelle's are on the site. It's possible she if filler cause their planned reveal character had mass destruction or earth themes in it.

My browser had trouble broadcasting the Direct at first, so I missed the Luigi's Mansion 3 teaser unfortunately.
Asides from Smash I had pretty low expectations, and it unsurprisingly was a wait until I could watch the trailer for the new character. Close to the end with all that Final Fantasy stuff I was just wanting them to just announce Smash news, so I was a bit annoyed each time they announced yet another Final Fantasy thing... although FF7 coming was not something I anticipated. (Not the remake, but something still particularly noticeable.) Makes Smash Cloud feel less like a Sony guest now ahah.

And for Smash... yeah that was a nice bait-and-switch. Makes you believe a new Animal Crossing game is coming and no Smash news... until Isabelle explicitly mentions "Smash" and you know what happens. Then the confirmation of a new Animal Crossing for AC fans to double subvert their expectations; they're the big winners of this Direct.

This also confirms Isabelle is not an Echo, but she also borrows some moves from Villager, suggesting she's partially semi-cloned. This bodes well for Dixie Kong who's also perfect for this kind of semi-cloning.

Given her slower trailer, I assume she was a later addition.
Or maybe it just fits with the fact she comes from a pacific series with not much action.

Luigi's Mansion 3? YES!
Everything in-between Luigi's Mansion 3 and Smash: Meh.
Smash: Yes!
It's Isabelle? Meh.

Tbh Isabelle deserves to be in the game in some form, so I'm not mad that she's included, but she does nothing for me. The trailer was really boring and I don't care for the character much at all. Definitely the worst non-echo newcomer for me. Way below the standards of Ridley and King K Rool.

Having Isabelle in some more octane trailer was not a possibility, and leaving the face of Animal Crossing without a trailer when she is not an echo is also a thing they would not have done. While I am a tad disappointed, I still like and understand the way they went with in the trailer.

Most of the direct was meh. I liked Weegees mansion and some other small things. I was mostly waiting for Smash content the entire direct. I'm cool with Isabelle being in the game. She was a guaranteed lock at this point anyway. Surprised to see her as a Semiclone instead of an echo, (which I'm happy about since echo characters are dumb) and the animal crossing fans who have been waiting and put through Amiibo Festival, finally get a new console Animal crossing game.

Overall score: 60%

Pretty disappointed tbh... I would much rather see Isabelle as an Echo and keep a fighter slot open for somebody more unique and deserving... *ahem* Isaac, Bandana Dee, Banjo & Kazooie, Incineroar, Rayman, etc. *ahem* Just any of the MORE wanted characters, not to say that Isabelle's fanbase wasn't humongous, just that she is close enough to Villager that we could have seen her as an Echo... I simply want more series represented (Isaac+Banjo+Rayman), or characters that fill a set of pre-existing characters to be included as completely new additions (Bandana+Incineroar). Isabelle is not either of those. I want the iconic characters of already represented series to fill in the roles of echoes of existing fighters. Can't give my satisfaction today though, that's tomorrow's RTC...

I went into that Direct expecting basically nothing and I still came out disappointed. They got off on the right foot with Luigi's Mansion 3, but everything that followed ranged from "meh" or "I've already seen this" to "are you ****ing kidding me?" levels of disappointment. What's that, I get to pay for NSMBU again? Whoopee! On top of that, Switch Online still doesn't seem worth paying for if not for Smash, and no offense to her fans, but that Isabelle trailer had me groaning the entire time.
Yeah, I'm bummed to say the least. I didn't even expect to get a character reveal I'd love (I expected Incineroar, a character I'm not exactly fond of), and I still felt let down. Thumbs down from me.

Copy and pasting my thoughts on this Direct from another Social I'm part of:

Back from replaying Pokemon Platinum in celebration of its 10th anniversary today. Man, the nostalgia trip was really fun!

As for the Nintendo Direct, I found it rather underwhelming to be honest. Not much excited me other than Luigi's Mansion 3 and the Bowser's Inside Story remake. Luigi's Mansion 3 was a surprise to me, but the fact it'll be taking in a tower-like mansion should be interesting. This could be the biggest game yet in terms of exploration!

The Bowser Jr. quest in the BiS remake is looking cool. I like how Bowser Jr. will have some more interactions with the Koopalings. They've barely interacted with each other throughout the series, but now we're finally seeing that happen. This could be pretty good!

I didn't care for any of the other news presented. Kirby's Epic Yarn getting a 3DS port was a bit surprising to me, and Yoshi's Crafted World looks like a fun multiplayer, but I don't plan on buying either game.

Isabelle's Smash reveal was fun, but she isn't a character I particularly care for (I'm not an Animal Crossing fan after all). Still, it's nice to see she made it into Smash. She really deserved it, and I'm happy for her fans! She's looking to be a semi-Echo of Villager from what her trailer showed of her.

Animal Crossing coming in 2019 is cool too. With that, Yoshi's Crafted World, and Luigi's Mansion 3, that's two more games added to the lineup of anticipated Switch titles for 2019 alongside Generation 8 of Pokemon, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and *probably* Metroid Prime 3.

After watching the direct, I think it is safe to say that we aren’t getting many more new characters. The game comes out in December so they won’t reveal anything then and I don’t think they are gonna reveal anything else to us in September. That leaves about 2 more presentations before the release of the game. I am gonna go and list who I think is coming.

New characters
-New Pokemon
-Skull Kid
-Issac
-Geno

I am gonna go on record and say there are probably gonna be 72 unique fighters (not including echos) in the roster

Echos

Diddy Kong
Shadow
Ken
Probably a couple more that I can’t think of off the top of my head

But overall, I think everyone else that I didn’t name is probably gonna be saved for DLC

The Direct was thematically connected by nostalgia as it was a lot of older titles being ported, enhanced or remade. That's not a bad thing, in fact I like it, and I actually want some of titles I missed out on in previous generations. Still, it does seem like there wasn't much for people looking for new titles, though I do like that Game Freak game and the board game that was on the Japanese Direct. (speaking of which, StarLink wasn't featured in the Japanese Direct)

I'm really happy with titles like Chocobo's Dungeon and Katamari Damacy. The Online Service looks really basic but I don't need much, so I don't know how to judge it...

As for the Smash reveal, I didn't know if it was a fake out or not until she got the letter, it seemed she was going to reveal the next AC title.
Isabelle is one of the newcomers I look forward to the most.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is great to have and that new Game Freak game looks pretty interesting. Isabelle and the new AC announcement completely made my day.

The rest of the Direct was pretty lackluster though.

Everything from Nintendo was pretty terrible in this direct.

Luigi's Mansion 3 seems to follow the style of Dark Moon, which concerns me as I didn't enjoy that title as much as the original. Worried it will just be constant generic ghosts without personality.
Yoshi game looks ok but nothing leapt at me design-wise to compete with what yoshi island has given us before. The style is cute, but if anything it kind of makes the world look too generic. I have yet to see any seriously interesting or innovative design choices in this game
NSMBU Deluxe looks as boring now as it did roughly six years ago

Worst of all was that Nintendo Online segment. Where before I figured I'd pay the online fee just because we'll probably have to, that trailer left me actively wanting to not pay for it. It felt condescending and patronizing, like playing online is something completely new they hadn't offered before.

And then the smash trailer, which I was banking as hopefully a redeemer of this underwhelming direct, turned out to be equally underwhelming. The trailer was needlessly slow and... calm? passive? idk... it's hard to describe, it was just really boring. It didn't hype me about the character or the moveset, and I honestly wish it had been a pre-rendered cutscene instead of just a machinima, particularly since due to the delay we KNEW this was a smash trailer.

The animal crossing game reveal was nice, but it would have been nicer if they had shown more of it. It's hard for me to be excited about game announcement or trailers that don't have a shred of gameplay.

Ultimately though, for a direct that was delayed for a week to have that hyper-calm and low-key smash trailer was just outright unfortunate. It failed to meet the buildup and it's just a shame as a whole that they lost control of the pacing of this announcement. Leaves me in the same place as multiple people where I don't particularly care about Isabelle, and if anything the trailer convinced me against her.
I will be particularly salty now if Dixie doesn't make it in, or makes it in as an echo when Isabelle was not.

Isabelle Satisfaction: 100%

Hell yeah. She's been one of my most wanted newcomers for quite some time, and was one of the last ones I would've guessed would be revealed today.

Even better, she's got unique moves! She's looking similar to either a Wolf or Luigi-like character so far, and a fun one at that. I would've been fine if she were an Echo of Villager, but having her as a unique fighter was always my more desired outcome, and I never really doubted it was possible. She's also loaded with personality that's incorporated nicely into her moves, making for some neat aesthetics and maintaining the character's image. She's been translated very nicely into Smash Bros.

And I get that Isabelle's trailer was a lot different from the others, but to be frank, it's.......Animal Crossing. They could have gone with a comedic dark route for it, but it wasn't necessary. And in fact, they didn't. Instead they kept perfectly true to the style of the games for this, and I honestly think that just made it extremely charming. No darkness, no violence outside of gameplay footage, no characters being brutally murdered (unless you count Tom Nook looking utterly dead on the inside) it's just cute Animal Crossing footage and dialogue, starring an adorable clumsy secretary. The lack of crossover action is a bit confusing, but the sheer charm of the trailer makes up for it my book. So yeah, I can't say I was truly disappointed about anything in her trailer. I just want to know what else she can do. Let's hope for some more footage soon!

I wanted Isabelle to get in, and I thought she had it in her to make it as a unique newcomer. It’s nice to see Sakurai agrees. Isabelle is absolutely a Nintendo All-Star, so she deserves the spot she got. The trailer being slow and calm like Animal Crossing gave me nice, cozy feelings, and got me in the mood for the new game. It’s not 100 per cent because I was expecting a lot more (at least one more newcomer), and because with the **** Direct we had I really needed a hype, adrenaline-pumping reveal to come back from lethargy.

TCT~Phantom TCT~Phantom Are we doing nominations today? If so NintenX5

She was my most wanted newcomer and seeing her as a non-echo was a dream come true. The AC Switch announcement at the end made it even better.

The rest of the Direct would probably be a 10%. Nothing interested me aside from the Town game and Luigi's Mansion 3.

Darn. I wish I would've gotten to the thread sooner. I actually really enjoyed the Direct and wanted to share my opinions, haha. Oh well.

Isabelle Satisfaction: 100%

I had every expectation of seeing Isabelle in this game. Not only was I expecting her, but I was excited by the prospect, as I'm a huge Animal Crossing fan and Isabelle is my favorite character in Mario Kart 8. Of course, like most, I thought they would make her an Echo (well, rather, some new more intensive brand of Echo, since her proportions are different from those of Villager), so to see her functioning as a semi-clone was really exciting! I love that they incorporated her pacifism into her moveset, so everything she does is something goofy and/or unintentional. I also like that she has her Winter jacket as an alt, but that was to be expected, haha.

I have every intention of seeing how she plays once I get the game. She seems like a fun new spin on Villager's playstyle.

As far as her trailer goes, sure, it wasn't hype, per se, but it matched the atmosphere of Animal Crossing. The segue and gameplay footage was so silly that I legitimately let out a belly-laugh. I love it.

Despite Isabelle definitely being the least exciting newcomer so far for me, I'm still pleased with her inclusion.
She really is an important Nintendo character and I love the way they handled her animations and moveset.

To be brutally honest, Isabelle was one of the few candidates I outright didn't want in the game; I was one of the odd ones, if you will, who thought Isabelle was perfectly suited for a role as an Assist Trophy and Animal Crossing didn't need a second rep at all, though I would have been merely indifferent to her inclusion if she had turned out to be an Echo Fighter like most of us were speculating. Obviously, that didn't happen, and on top of taking up a reveal spot, which will doubtless be precious few and far between from now until release, her trailer was drawn-out, predictable, and, in my book, the weakest Smash trailer we've seen by far. I can live with her inclusion now that she's in, and she does at least get a pity percent from me for slightly boosting the credibility of a certain leaker, but if you ask me, Isabelle was definitely not worth sitting through the most disappointing Direct in recent memory for, especially considering she's likely the last reveal we'll see until October at the very earliest. Sorry, Izzy, but just about anyone else would have excited me more.

I'll give her a 60%. I really didn't care much for the event, and felt like it was an anti-climax, but the settling in has allowed me to appreciate her more.

I'm giving Gooey x 3, No more stages x 2.

50 percent. First newcomer that I'm not that interested in. Not that I hate the inclusion, I'm just indifferent to her in general. Usually the trailers do more to get my excited for characters I didn't really want or didn't care about seeing in smash and this one didn't really do much for me. I suppose it makes sense to have this month be less exciting though with October likely to be the one to reveal the hidden mode, November being the one showing off the last and most exciting newcomers in the game, and August being the month where they gave us a ton of info on everything else.

No idea if we're doing nominations for today or not, but if so

Nomination: Nathan Drake x5
