But the future refused to change...

Chance: oof
Yeah, no. Perhaps in a world where we didn't already have two Square Enix representatives in Cloud Strife and the Dragon Quest Heroes, he might have been possible in this wave of DLC, but that's not how things played out. The best he's getting is a Mii Costume if anything.

Want: Abstain
I'm one of those rare few people who hasn't at least tried to play Chrono Trigger, and though I do have some exposure to it, I really am not the person to form an educated opinion about whether I want him or not.

We already got a Square Enix character for this wave in the form of DQ Hero. While there is no rule saying that we can't get another SE character for this wave I seriously doubt we'll get another one. Even if we did, Crono would have to compete with characters like Noctis, Sephiroth, Geno, and Sora to name a few.

Want: Abstain
Chrono Trigger is often regarded as one of the best JRPGs of all time. I wanted to try this game out for some time now, but since I haven't been able to I'm just gonna abstain on my want rating.

Cadence chance prediction: 8.41% (I'm guessing her chances will be overblown since there was that one Zelda spin-off)

One word. Hero. Chrono Trigger is humongously popular in both the east and west and it's legacy can't be overstated but I can't see us having two Square characters in the pass, especially not when they're both JRPG swordsmen designed by Toriyama. Variety is important. Even then, you can still argue the likes of Sora and Geno are likelier.

Want: Abstaining, haven't had the chance to play the game yet.

Chrono

Chance: 1% - An SNES classic that a lot of people have fond memories of! However, even with all anime sword arguments aside, Chrono got the short end of the stick this time around. Hero was the nail in the coffin for him, both taking his niche as the Akira Toriyama magical sword user and a Square Enix character. While Chrono could easily get in with a later installment, it is very unlikely that Chrono and Hero would both be included in the same Pass, with their similarities in playstyle and Square's stinginess. A Mii costume for him would be plausible, but I can't see him getting in as a fighter any time soon.

Want: 10% - I'm not a huge fan of JRPGs or the influx of anime-esque characters in Smash since 4, though I enjoyed playing through Chrono Trigger with my best friend. The game itself's real time mechanics make it much more fun! While I'd rather not see a third JRPG character on the pass, Chrono would be a fun addition for a later installment or another pass if that happens.

Akira Toriyama's Time Bandits, not starring Monthy Python members (Chrono):

Chance: 1 %

Yeaaa... aside from Cloud and the DQ Heroes taking priority, Chrono also is unlucky enough to share a similar problem as Geno. Both have been languishing in the S-E doldrums for a long time alongside characters like Parasite Eve's Aya. And that's unlikely to change in the near future given Square's current priorities. I could see Chrono (and Geno for that matter) as a third S-E rep, but competition would be fierce. Not just Chrono or Geno, characters like Lara Croft, Sora, Sephiroth (or any other FF character), Deus Ex's JC Denton or Adam Jensen... the list goes on. Chrono's chances of a third S-E rep depend heavily on him being ressurected IMHO.

To be fair though, Chrono could be an interesting swordfighter on his own - enough to make him a semi-unique if not outright averting the "anime swordsman" complaint so many other characters have gotten. While a Chrono moveset would be similar to Hero's as a "Magic Knight", Single Techs on their own focus a lot more on cleaving and support Techs, and his balance could be more rounded around multiple aspects. As opposed to Hero's focus on super-hard-hitters. He would not (likely) be the first character to use a katana (or two), but damn it, he would make it work.

Want: Abstain

Haven't tried it out, but heard a lot about it. Not the biggest fan of RPGs, but wouldn't mind trying it out one day.

The difficulty of working with Square seems to be what will be holding him back the most. While there's no reason a second Square character couldn't be included in the past, we know they did drag their heels when it came to Cloud and trying to bring back a character from a game that hasn't seen much action since the 90's doesn't seem to likely.

Want: 50%
He's a fun character from a fantastic game. Hero has pretty effectively scratched the Sword Goku itch for now, so he isn't as high on my want list as in the past but I would still welcome him with open arms. Getting a stage that alters during different time eras would be a pretty fun addition with him.

Crono-he didn't

Chance: Unlike Arle and Steve, who still have a bunch of positives I think are neglected in the face of Joker and Banjo, Crono is the perfect example of somebody whose only shot was pre-Hero. The big difference is that Crono is not only irrelevant, but faced pretty much impossible competition from Dragon Quest at all. You had to be crazy to think he was likelier than, say, Jessica or Alena, let alone Slime/Erdrick/Luminary, who pretty much WERE the face of JRPGs as a whole and would make Japan crap its pants nation-wide. Unlike Arle and Steve, Crono represented the same genre and artstyle as a character we got, so he doesn't have uniqueness backing him up. Crono also faces competition to this day with Geno and Lara Croft, one of whom is drastically more demanded and the other is far more iconic. Did I forget to mention that, given what Cloud came with, and how even Dragon Quest, while slightly more lenient still leaves a lot to be desired, Square-Enix is the last company I'd expect to double dip (if any does, it's SEGA or Capcom). Still, his company is involved with Nintendo already, so 5%. It's still gonna take a miracle like Heavy, but I consider it more feasible than Heavy, if only barely.

Want: 30%. Don't get me wrong, I think Chrono Trigger is a fantastic game and should definitely get a character, but Crono would be the single worst possible candidate for the game. The view many hold with Frisk, I hold with him, as compared to literally ANY of his companions he's not anything special. Katana user? Eight. Lightning specialist? Pikachu, and if it has to be human, Hero also has plenty of lightning. It should be literally anybody else out of the playable cast, as none of them are that similar to any member of the cast (some close calls do happen, like with Frog and Greninja, but Frog is still way more unique and easily distinctifiable than Crono is) but personally my pick is Robo.

Cadence got a crossover thing with Zelda so, I think maybe people could see it. 7.17%. Sunflower x 5.

Crono, despite being a character that has a following in the Smash scene and coming from a very critically acclaimed game, has very little going for him. Not only does Hero's inclusion hurt him being in Smash, but outside of a few re-releases, Square Enix has done nothing with the Chrono series for a really long time. With Cloud in Smash, Final Fantasy was already huge and still has a lot of longevity left for SE. With Hero in Smash, Dragon Quest also has the same longevity as FF and may get more Western audiences to play or learn more about the series. Though Dragon Quest benefited a lot more from having a character in Smash than Final Fantasy, Square Enix has supported both games for a long time and will continue to do so for a long as they want. Unfortunately for Chrono Trigger, Crono will probably be stuck in limbo as the series never got a new game past Chrono Cross, and Square Enix would most likely want another character from another huge franchise they own like Lara Croft to be in Smash next as Tomb Raider has gotten newer games in the last couple of years.

Want: 25%

I should probably get around to watching Chuggaaconroy's LP of Chrono Trigger at some point since it's finished, but currently, I'm not big on him or anymore Squaresoft characters appearing in Smash. I think he'd make a lot of people happy in the same way Banjo-Kazooie did, but that's basically it for me in terms of if I wanted to see him in Smash. At least with pre-Hero reveal Erdrick, I was very interested in seeing the general reactions because Dragon Quest isn't as recognized in the West compared to Chrono Trigger and Kingdom Hearts (not to menion the series was from the Enix side of SE so it sounded cooler to think about). Crono would be that character I'm happy to see put smiles on people's faces but isn't the kind of character that I'd want to play immediately.

I mean... he wasn't deconfirmed, so I'm not giving Crono a 0%, but... let's be real, he never stood a chance against Dragon Quest. Few Square characters did, to begin with.

While Chrono Trigger certainly could have some aesthetic differences (mainly if they took from the Future period), the Toriyama art style certainly doesn't help. And he may have his Techs and katana to differentiate him from other RPG swordfighters, but... if I'm being honest, even if none of this matters, Square Enix is the last of the companies already in Smash that I could see double-dipping in the Fighters Pass (heck, I'd say even Microsoft is more likely).

And even if we were to get another Pass, hypothetically, Crono would again have to contend with other Square names, like Sora, 2B, Lara Croft and possibly even Geno.

Want: 30%
Going to be perfectly clear here: I love CT. However, I think the things that make CT special to me aren't easily quantifiable for a game like Smash. Honestly, I'd be happy with a Mii Costume and some Spirits (though even that is basically impossible at this point).

Hero. Enough said.
. . .Well, okay, there's also the fact that Square Enix just seems to be quite the pain to work with. I doubt that they'd go through that a third time, be it inside or outside of the Fighter's Pass.

Ehhhh. . . no. I've never played the game, but I did watch chuggaaconroy's recently concluded Let's Play of it (minus bonus content, as that's still ongoing). And I'll be honest: What I've seen of it has not convinced me. It just doesn't look terribly interesting. Just more standard RPG stuff, which is already covered quite well at this point. And in addition to that, I just really don't like Akira Toriyama's character designs, especially the faces.

Predicting Cadence to be around 4.3%.

Again, I think it’s only a matter of time before Crono receives his Smash invitation. Cloud (and maybe even Hero?) very well may never return to the series simply due to Sakurai not wanting to jump through SE’s hoops for a third time. However, if there could only be one Square rep in a Nintendo-focused fighting game, I feel Crono would be that rep. His game (on the SNES, no less) is legendary both in the East and the West, often regarded as the best JRPG of all time. We know now that Toriyama’s unique style can fit well within the style of the Smash roster, and unlike Hero, Crono has an enormous fanbase amongst old-school gamers everywhere.

That being said, I know there really is no such thing as “X character stole Y character’s place in the roster”, but in the case of Crono, his spot was definitely taken by Hero. There’s no way a fighter’s pass with only five slots in it will consist of two Toriyama-created anime swordsmen with a variety of spells at their disposal. Considering Crono is now also considered something of a “retro character” in the same vein as Pit in Brawl or Simon in Ultimate, I doubt he would’ve drawn in such a huge crowd anyway as paid DLC. He would work much better as a base roster character, which is where I think we’ll see him if he ever does come to Smash.

Want: 88%

I’m not a big JRPG fan. I’ve never finished a FF game, there isn’t enough time in my day to commit to playing Persona 5 (I’ve tried), and Dragon Quest VIII just wasn’t my cuppa tea. However, the two JRPGs I have played featured some of the best stories I’ve ever played through: The World Ends With You (may it rest in peace) and Chrono Trigger. I snagged the rerelease on the DS back in the day and man it was a blast.

I don’t even know if Crono himself would be my most wanted character to join Smash. I’d much rather have Frog or Lucca, but at the same time I definitely wouldn’t lose sleep over Crono being the rep of his own game. If nothing else, I’d just love for the music, a buncha Spirits, and a gorgeous End of Time stage that could transform into different worlds from the past, present, and future. Plus, just seeing how gorgeously Sakurai’s team rendered Hero’s reveal trailer…yeah, just give us that but with our boy Crono next time, please.

Put them with Farmer. I new that I had put my noms prior to a Harvest Moon character, but I had forgotten we were doing the generic farmer instead of Jack. I guess I was forgetting/in a rush...

Chrono

Chance - 0.05% - Never say never, but Hero is a big dampener to his chances. A same art style hero from the same genre from the same developer, the two could not copete more with each other if they tried. With Hero in, Chrono is as redundant as redundancy.

Want - 40% - I know some people care about him, but I don't. At this point I would prefer a fairly different character compared to him.

Predictions

Cadence - 4.35% - They already had a crossover, so I guess that helps...

I honestly don't think we're getting another Square Enix character in this Fighter's Pass considering how stingy they are. Even if we do get another one, it's not going to be Crono IMO. He faces stiff competiton from Sora and Geno, both of which are more popular and more demanding than Crono. The only way I could see him happening is through the Mii costume, but Hero was released and he wasn't part of the Mii Costume that were released alongside him so that kinda kills his chances.

Want: 50%
I am indifferent towards Crono. I have played Chrono Trigger but I don't want Crono in Smash, to be honest. At least not until other third-party characters that I want are all in Smash anyway. But still, I like Chrono Trigger and I have some fond memories of me playing it in my childhood.

Frog's Sidekick

What to say about Crono? Well, Chrono Trigger is widely considered to be one of the best JRPGs of all time and one of the best games of all time period. Even I, whose favorite game ever is Earthbound, can look at it and recognize it's the better game. Much has been said about how Chrono Trigger was a dream project made by a dream team - the creators of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Dragon Ball together - and will likely never be replicated. Maybe, then, we should be grateful that there was never a real attempt to capitalize on its success to make a cashgrab sequel that would only tarnish the original's reputation. Even Chrono Cross smartly took the route of being more of a spiritual sequel and doing it's own thing - pretty successfully, I might add.

But, while Chrono Trigger can't be said to have spawned a franchise to carry its torch for generations, it can hardly be called irrelevant. It's one of the seminal classics of the medium, one that is still frequently cited as a must-play a quarter of a century after its release. I think its fair to say that it didn't need to have dozens of needless sequels and spin-offs to stay in the hearts and minds of people, and that I believe is a testament to the game's sheer quality and uniqueness.

So, Smash. Should Chrono Trigger be in Smash, or rather, has Chrono Trigger earned its place in Smash? I don't think there's any doubt about that. I can completely understand having certain reservations about it. After all, Chrono Trigger is a 1995 game, and Crono himself has made no appearances in any media after 1999. And to be fair, as is tradition with Square Enix, we can assume that perhaps there are rights issues involved (likely nothing that would stop Sakurai). But I want everyone to think if there is any other singular game that has earned the accolades and respect that Chrono Trigger has. Not part of a franchise, no Ocarina of Time or Metal Gear Solid here, I'm talking about singular games. Because I can't think of any.

What I'm trying to convey here (I hope successfully!) is that it's no small feat for a single game to have the legacy that compares to the great franchises. I think that counts for something.

A lot has been said about Crono versus his party members. Of course, I understand. RPG protagonists tend to lean towards the bland, and Crono appears (at least for part of the game) to follow the same genericness. While his great Toriyama design would have stood out before, the DQ heroes have stolen some of his thunder - I don't think all of it due to Crono's distinct and iconic appearance and also his different height, but the impact has somewhat been muted. But let's be real, games are represented by the main characters. That's been the rule with very few exceptions and none of Crono's awesome party members would be another one. There's also the question of uniqueness; "Another anime swordsman? Pah!" "Hero and Robin can already do lightning, so he's absolutely redundant." While hoping that these are strawmans and not actual beliefs that people have, the answer to this matter is also the answer to the previous one: Crono's party members would absolutely be represented in his moveset. How else would the game's unique Active Time Battle 2.0 system and the Techs be represented? Some might say that would be a lot of work, but to that I point to Masahiro Sakurai, the guy who wanted to represent Dragon Quest properly so much that he gave one character four different skins and like ten times more special moves than usual. I trust that it would be done, not for wishful thinking but because it would be the way to represent the game properly.

Bottom line is, you get everything you could possibly want out of a playable character. A great unique moveset. Iconic and creative locales for a stage. Wonderful music. If he were base roster, the best possible selection of potential ATs.

But of course, we all know it's not happening. Square Enix already got one character, they won't get another one this Pass. And the existence of the second Pass is subject to much debate and speculation.

But what does the future hold for Crono? It's hard to call. Square Enix has made some of the greatest games of all time and has acquired quite a few of the others. Lara Croft is one of the most iconic gaming characters of all time period. Sora isn't too far behind. Deus Ex is one of the most legendary western RPG series. Bubble Bobble is a beloved classic. The World Ends With You, Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler could break out and become the next generation of legendary RPG franchises. NieR: Automata is one of the best games of the generation. And there's the ever-present Geno, a beloved character with similar issues as Crono but a massive backing to compensate. At least Square Enix no longer owns the rights to Hitman because hoo boy.

But I do believe that Crono has a chance to rise to that strong challenge. Not much else to say, sorry for the lousy ending.

(Oh, those of you who haven't played it. Do yourself a favor.)

Chance 0 - He's done. I don't think Crono had a super great shot anyways being from Square, but since we already have one more character from SE I really cant see it. Crono hasn't had a game since 1999 as well, so even if SE were to get another character I'm not sure why either them or Nintendo would want to pick him when there are other characters who would be far more profitable and have more fan interest.

Want 20 - Wouldn't hate it I suppose. I dont have any connection to Crono so I can't say I'd have a big interest in him

Not happening. I don't think we will be getting more than one rep per company for this fighters pass. Even then, he is competing with characters like Lara Croft and Sora who are much more relevant and would make more money. Sure, he has a fanbase which is decently big and loud and his game is iconic and popular, but there is not much else going for him. Not only that, but Hero is THE rpg character, with all kinds of spells ranging from an ice attack, electricity, healing, explosions, etc. I don't see how Chrono can stand out from that.

The actual series he's from is called "De Blob", a 3d platformer exclusive to the Wii and received a multiplat sequel. Both of which were ported to the Switch to my knowledge.

Square having Hero is basically a death knell for Crono. And if on the off chance Sakurai has gone to Square for two characters, then we know exactly who that will be, and if it isn't I can't imagine that community would take it very well at all. Chrono Trigger is an all time great SNES game and something that more than deserves to be in Smash, but it's also a franchise that they stopped supporting after Chrono Cross and they also own the two biggest JRPG franchises.

Chrono Trigger is probably the best JRPG on the SNES. It's basically a four way tie between FFVI, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger. And it's pretty sucky that Earthbound is the only one with any decent representation in Smash. I understand why they went FFVII over VI (even if VI is the better game) and I imagine Square had no interest in Geno over Hero when Geno has only one significant appearance ever. But man, how amazing would Crono be? I guess if you squint, Hero being designed by Toriyama goes a long way. But I would love representation from the lead character of the SNES JRPG made by the JRPG dream team. (although please Square, lighten up a bit, more music would be amazing, thanks)

Chrono? Crono? Krowneaugh?

Chance: 2%
Crono's only chance at the moment is as a Mii Costume, I'm afraid. He has a lot going for him, but nothing going for him that other characters don't have. He represents the SNES era of RPGs, is highly requested, and is designed by Akira Toriyama... But Hero is already in the game, checking at least 2 of those boxes, as well as many more. Then there's Geno, who represents Nintendo and Square's partnership during that era much better, as well as being WAY more popular. Crono just doesn't have enough going for him.

Want: 0%
One swordfighter designed by Akira Toriyama is enough for me, thank you. As cool as utilizing time travel in a moveset sounds, I think with a character like Crono we wouldn't get as much of it as I'd want, and then he just becomes yet another swordfighter. I have no desire to see him as anything other than a mii fighter costume. I haven't played Chrono Trigger, and I would like to get around to doing it at some point, but I just can't bring myself to have any attachment whatsoever to this character.

Put in Frog instead. Or Ayla.

Heavy competition and lack of recency and their biggest problems. Dragon Quest (Hero) was already chose to appear in Smash Bros, a franchise that has a very similar appeal to Chrono Trigger because of the Toriyama's designs. That wouldn't be a problem if wasn't for the fact it was chose as DLC in this very pass, and even in future potential passes.

Want: 50%

I like Chrono Trigger; but I don't have special opinions about Crono himself.

Love me some Chrono Trigger. Cool character. We still don't have a katana guy. It would be great to see him. It would be better to see Frog though...

Another Square JRPG protag? Not very likely at this point. And even if there was, Crono isn't at the top of that list. His gimmick of Sword Goku is even already taken at this point.

Chrono just is not looking too sharp in a post Hero world. Even as the third Square Rep, he has so much competition like Lara Croft, Neku, Sephiroth, and Geno. It doesn’t help that Chrono Trigger doesn’t get too much love outside of the occasional rerelease.

100% want

God I would love this. It’s a SNES classic. I know some people like to keep third parties feeling “Nintendo”. I personally see this as bunk but here I get it, he is truly a classic of a bygone era. Also Sari Sari helped show some of the best of the best soundtrack on the SNES.

Cadence

Chance: 6%
I don't see her getting in Smash anytime soon, even despite Cadence of Hyrule. Even though Nintendo has partnered with them, Crypt of the Necrodancer is still an Indie game, and thus has a pretty niche fanbase. On top of that, she has to compete with other characters from Rhythm games, INCLUDING A FIRST PARTY FRANCHISE in Rhythm Heaven. All that said, she's one of the more likely indie reps in my eyes, if not exclusively because of Cadence of Hyrule.

Speaking of which I really want to play that game.

Want: 40%
Assuming a Rhythm Heaven character gets in first, or shortly afterward, Cadence would absolutely be one the best choices for me personally. Crypt of the Necrodancer is a great game with a FANTASTIC soundtrack, and any Rhythm Game representation is good. With Cadence of Hyrule, she doesn't feel quite as 3rd party as other characters do, and she'd fit right in. Also she's a cute girl, so bonus points for that.

The only thing holding her back for me is that, aside from the gimmick of being rhythm-based, she's a pretty standard character as far as how she fights. She has a dagger, sometimes she uses swords or spears or whips, she could borrow that one spoiler-y weapon that the one spoiler-y character wields, but otherwise she seems pretty boring. She'd have to heavily rely on a rhythm gimmick to be unique, which is something I don't think she can lean on quite as hard as the wacky characters in Rhythm Heaven. I'd be happy if she got in, though!

Cadence of Smash
Chance:0%: Yeah, no. Cadence of Hyrule might not have even started development when Ultimate was being developed, and there would be no other reason to choose her. Even without that, still is a 0%. She just isn't widely known enough and Undertale, Hollow Knight, Shantae, Shovel Knight, Shantae, and even FNAF are far more likely.
Want: abstain: I haven't played either of her games, so I can't give an opinion.

Chance: 0% - Another rising indie game, while the collaboration with Nintendo is a big plus, the crossover likely wasn't in development or negotiated at the time the DLC was decided. Furthermore there's the "Shovel Knight Cutoff" as I call it. Crypt of the Necrodancer isn't a widely-known indie game (I hadn't even heard of it until I saw my friend play it after getting it in a Humble Bundle), and if a more iconic indie like Shovel Knight is just an assist I don't see much hope for her. Furthermore, we have games like Cave Story, Undertale, and Shantae (despite her likely spirit deconfirmation) above even the valiant Knight, and you've got some extremely tough competition.

We Cadence if we want to

Chance: 3%
Yes there is that one spin-off game that is based on Zelda but I don't think that alone would be enough to get her into Smash. Like I said before, I don't see us getting an indie character let alone one that is fairly recent and not as big compared to other ones out there.

Want: 20%
Eh, while I wouldn't hate her there are a ton of other indies I'd want to see first. There is no way I'd want Cadence to get in over Quote, Shantae, or Shovel Knight.

'She got a game for Switch, that must mean she's in Smash!'

Double zeroes

Here's a comprehensive list of Cadence's credentials for Smash inclusion:

• She's in a Zelda game.

Yeah that's it. Crypt of the Necrodancer is an indie game. Not one with huge acclaim. Or massive sales. Or like this big impact or influence on other games. Or this huge audience on stuff like Youtube or Twitch. Crypt of the Necrodancer is just an indie game. Dunno why Nintendo figured this would be the ideal pick for their first ever indie collaboration (maybe it was cheap?), but that happened. So that automatically raises Cadence's profile right?

Ehhh, let's delve deeper. First off, the game isn't called The Legend of Zelda: Crypt of the Necrodancer or anything like that. It's called Cadence of Hyrule. This implies at least some willingness to keep distance - nothing that speaks poorly of the game of course, it would be odd if a massive corporation like Nintendo was so risk-taking. Then there's the fact that it was shadow-dropped during E3. Again, not something that happens to the most important of titles. And finally, and this is kind of the nail: being in a Zelda game has never helped any character for inclusion. It's precisely the franchise with the worst track record for character inclusions bar maybe Donkey Kong.

So yeah we're obviously not getting Cadence.

As for want, Crypt of the Necrodancer is just a game that will soon be forgotten like most others so I don't think it is or will ever be Smash caliber. Played some of it, thought it was pretty boring.

I may be giving Cadence a higher chance rating than I should, but seeing a crossover between Legend of Zelda and an indie game sure did make me think Cadence in Smash is a possibility. It's no secret that Nintendo is giving Indie games a bigger spotlight on the Switch, but no indie game has ever gotten a crossover with 1 of Nintendo's IPs like Crypt of the NecroDancer did. The only big things that you have to guess about Cadence potentially being in Smash would be when this was greenlit and if Sakurai was able to think of a moveset for her to incorporate in Smash. For the former, we probably won't know, but as for the latter, it's easy to assume Sakurai rejected putting Cadence in Smash if Nintendo asked if he could make her work because he couldn't think of a way to incorporate the game's mechanics into Smash. I'd like to think she'd have a special mechanic where she does more damage when you hit at the right beat of any Smash track, but that also sounds incredibly difficult to pull off. That said, if a Rhythm Heaven character isn't in Smash as a fighter, it's easy to assume Cadence is probably as unlikely as them.

Want: 80%

I've played Crypt of the NecroDancer before and think it's an incredibly well made stress inducing game. Ever since Cadence of Hyrule's reveal, I never knew how much I wanted to see Cadence in Smash as an Indie rep until now. I like the game, the music, and Cadence's voice. For some reason, that's enough for me to get behind seeing her in Smash than most Indie game characters out there.

Cadence as a rock
Chance: 3%

Alright, Nintendo chose Cadence for some reason for their collab partner, and being shoveled(heh) into a game with Link and Zelda will have definitely raised her profile. Not going to lie, I'm not too up on the Indie scene so I was completely unaware of Crypt of the Necrodancer, but the sheer fact Cadence is there fighting alongside Link and Zelda pushes her chances up a few percent.

However, she's fighting alongside LINK and ZELDA.
Zelda characters have constantly been glossed over for playable roles no matter the demand or popularity. Bigger Zelda characters like Impa, Skull Kid, Midna and Tingle have all been either ignored or given assist trophy or background roles.

In terms of rhythm games there's also their own successful, yet ignored in Smash, franchise in Rhythm Heaven and even competition with timed hits with the ridiculously popular Geno. Cadence seems to have competition from every angle and niche she covers.

Add on to this that there's far bigger Indie titles (including a more popular character who uses a shovel to fight) and that Cadence herself is a bait and switch protagonist in the single campaign with her leaving the moment she finds and wakes Link up and there's not a whole heap of confidence in her from me.

Also she's an indie character that's not Steve, Shovel Knight, Sans or Shantae(all the S's). If people are complaining a Nintendo character isn't hype enough to sell the pass what hope does a minor indie have?

Want: 15%
Cadence is a bit weird to me.

I like her well enough, but I don't think I'd have cared at all had she not had Cadence of Hyrule under her belt. I suck at rhythm games and playing her demo proved that to me too. She's got a neat look, I like her a lot more than Shovel Knight surprisingly but that might be by virtue of inclusion in a world I love.

However there's a whole heap of other Zelda side characters I'd rather have including spinoff wise with Hyrule Warriors having their version of Impa, Lana and Linkle all as characters I'd rather see get implemented and for Cadence to leapfrog Impa at the very least would somewhat irritate me.
