MF DOOM - Kookies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RYCLfGE-_Q
Awww man this is high up there for my MF DOOM albums

This track is pretty laughable, not to say so for its quality, but it quite funny in what it speaks on topically. The whole track is about how DOOM is a horny ******* and can't seem to get a nut bust from any of these chicks so he just keeps on wistfully waiting and jackin off to porn and whatever else instead.
The beats, tempo, and brass instrumentation on this track reflect the theme of the lyrics very well, and MF DOOM kind of picks up his flow a bit so to speak, and rhymes a bit faster than on other tracks in this song.

The production overall is very nice and as I said fits the thematics of the song very well. DOOMs lyrics and overall flow are like 'buttah' as per usual.

Not much else to say really, not his most "touching/thought provoking" track but whatever. There's a lot of great word play and a lot of good humor in this track as well. Pretty on par for DOOM seeing as though his voice and rhymes on practically any track from any producer give them an instant liking that so many of his fans still look forward to 15 years after people first heard about him.

Awesome track: 8/10 [Positive]

Wow you are all a bunch of a**holes

I love the energy of that snare in the beginning. Gives me a good feeling about the rest.

By the way, the video, whether it was made for the music or it's pulled from something else or whatever, is pretty awesome and vibrant. It makes me doubt is some ****ty amv because it seems to fit so well. I like the build up and explosion of synth at the half-minute mark. It's really just like the video, bright and fast-paced.
The reintroduction of the snare at 1:50 was real sexy. It takes control instead of everything else in the song becoming too messy.
The chorus (or whatever you call the segment at :30 and 2:30 and so on) actually isn't as interesting or engaging as the rest of the song.
The fading out at the end isn't too long which is nice. A nice melodic calm that bleeds into that one echo-y tone. I like it

this thread is becoming incredibly lame. shout outs to JC Studios for making good posts though.

@ Space For Rent:

Enjoyable singing, okay-ish everything else. I like the way the song very subtly builds up with different little bits that get added on with each verse. I like the little spaces inbetween the verses with all the weird small sounds going on.

around the 3:30 mark i've completely lost interest though. everything seems way too stagnant and the vocals have no "peak" or climax to them and at this point it's calling attention to the sameyness of everything else. the accordion (i think?) at the end is extremely nice though.

it's okay! would never ever actually choose to listen to it myself though

I really like the tempo of the song. It is pretty groovy. I do like how the vocals come in the beginning of the song. The vocals have a very mysterious and airy feel to them - which I really like. After a minute, I kind of feel my interest initially shifting in the song but the momentarily lapses in the song catch me for a second. Specifically at 1:43. I found myself kind of drifting until the song shifted at around 3:50. That was a welcome change and reinforces this "soft, airy, good feeling" I had previously. Overall, a nice, relaxing, grooving song to listen to when reading, taking a short nap, listening during a rainy day, or having sex. ::adds to "Sex" playlist::

Overall, a 3.5 out of 5. I liked it but I didn't really get anything from it. Maybe it was supposed to accomplish that though.

Actually gonna be p short cause I'm hella tired lol

The sound I like to call this is somewhere in between Post-Hardcore and Synthpop (Post-Synthcore?/Hard Synthpop?) The synth flares and chiptune effects work against alices' harsh vocals in a very unique way. If the same effects were put by themselves or to more positive beat/tempo it would be super happy and cheerful! But with the bass snare and the drums, along with the various glitchy amelodic sounds thrown in, it gives it a very sullen fractured distressed sound. Which is my favorite thing about these guys! They incorporate different production techniques and instrumentation to fit exactly what they want their music to evoke. Even the extremely subtle nuances in their/this track(s) can affect the listening experience greatly and they do it so well I just love it. <3

Sadly I cant find lyrics for this particular track, but going off of their usual lyrical style I'd think it'd be something super vauge that leaves way to much up to interpretation to have any given direction other than "angsty heartbreak"

Although typically its the music and not the lyrics that CCs is known for so ya know what can ya do.

Breddy good anyways 6.5/10 [Positive / Neutral]

Very boring, very bland 3/4 repetitive dubstep with no progression that has been done literally hundreds of times only with a different vocal sample and maybe without the kind of colorful keyed in synths. The bridge and the verse are both looped with minimal tweaking just to extend the duration of the song cause the 'producer' couldn't be bugged to actually make a decent song structure past what literally every other wannabee skrillex on UFK has been doing for years. Really sad show but the one thing it does have going for it is that it doesn't sound like it was made in an i-pad app or something

Interesting beginning monologue. I love the wind sounds. I live on the 4th floor in the middle of a field so it constantly sounds like this....well...maybe not constantly. I really like it. Adds an eerie atmosphere to everything.

Good, steady transition into vocals and a slow pick up in speed. Interesting. Not exactly my cup of tea but I do enjoy this type of rap.

Has a nice steady, progressive style to it. Much better than the cookie cutter gangster rap and such.

I like experimental rap/hip hop but it isn't something I dabble into seriously. Therefore, i don't consider myself an expert in the field. Hell, I am not even sure if I can call this experimental rap but I did like what I heard.

I dig it. The intro shows excellent use of tension, while the rest of the song manages to be chaotic without becoming too unrestrained. Hayley's vocals also add a new dimension to the song that's usually unheard of in mathcore.

I had a hard time really judging this song, or at least in trying to find something meaningful to say about it. I don't really listen to all that much reggae. Like at all. So I have no frame of reference to gauge quality.
I hear it, it sounds like reggae, like all other reggae. And that might be ignorance, or it may just be a really bland genre. I dunno. The problem with this song is that it doesn't ask me to give the benefit of the doubt that I'm missing anything. It passes through, solidifying the stereotype. Is it the poster child for reggae? Are all reggae songs poster children for reggae? I feel like judging the song is judging the entire genre, so here goes:

Arguably every genre has a plethora of musicians who have had big influences from weed. But reggae honestly seems to have retained the narrowest vision. As background music, it's nice and chill but as far as listening for the sake of listening, I don't really find anything I enjoy about it. The guy's voice is nothing to be envied. I feel like the lyrical content is relevant by those who understand it, but I don't unfortunately. I feel like I would enjoy this much more in a setting where I was asked to sing along or join in like the audience here did. But listening to it by itself? Sorry man. It made me do this face

I like the reverby snaps. The verses are very boring but I like the chorus a lot. I wish there was more background instruments to help fill the song, because it sounds very empty. The layered vocals did help, but that wasn't enough for me. There is a bass instrument in the background, but it's so low. If it was a little louder, the song would have been so much better.

well i started groaning and sighing as soon as this song started. sounds like a beginner's first venture into FL Studio or Ableton. i'm not against this mind-numbing endless repetition trance techno **** on basic principle, but i honestly have to be on a bunch of drugs or in a very rare and specific kind of happy mood to genuinely enjoy and immerse myself in it.

anyways, it gets better around 3:30 with pretty synths. that whole huge buildup leading to that was really lame and boring, this is where the song should actually start.

Ahh yeah this album lol. For a pretty average dadrock group, I've always liked Queens instrumentation. Even if it is pretty well used throughout their albums / discog, just listening to one or two tracks at a time; you will think they have very bright varied string based songs. And its true that they do most of the time!

And just as their songwriting is, their lyricism is very over the top and dramatic, but to it's core it's still very pragmatic and kinda boring at times if you look at it based solely on its meaning.

None the less, it's a very fun track. Queen isn't a group you listen to when you want to feel depressed or really conscious or hyped up. But it sure as hell delivers when you wanna have a good time.

Overall a decent song. I'm a fan of that genre but it didn't do much for me. While I understand its noise pop, I felt there was no change within the song and maintained an even sound throughout. That can be both a bad or good thing; depending on the context. I wasn't caught in by the song but that is solely based on personal tastes. While I was listening, I was thinking of ways that I could do to make the song more palatable to my tastes. But that type if thinking led me know where but down. I just couldnt get into it; even at the end. It's chaotic but not overly chaotic. While I'm not a music expert, it had a interesting time signature I guess. It is a good example of noise pop though.

[:urg:]:ohwell::):bee::awesome:

I wouldn't say reggae is a bland gerne at all. It's to me one of the bigger verstitale genres I've listened to. I mean, there's roots reggae, dancehall reggae, modern reggae (this song you listened to is this), dub, lover's rock. And that's all from a genre that evolved from rock steady and ska. Real progressive music. And also, the difference between individual artists is quite big.

And yeah, reason why I post it here is just cause of that. I want to bring it more to people's attention cause it's a genre which is quite often stereotyped a lot, for unjust reasons. And no, Anthony B isn't a poster child of reggae. Just one of the more succesful artists, speciality lies in modern reggae and dancehall mostly.

Anyway, here's another:

@ the song above me, 'Interview at the Ruin' : It builds up nicely. And when it does, it's quite nice. Didn't quite suspect it to be metal. Then again, from the little metal that I listened to, I always noticed the introduction to be.. really misleading at times  I like the echoing sounds however. 6/10. And that's coming from someone that doesn't listen to metal at all.

wow that intro was incredibly annoying. it settles down a bit and i can vibe with it. i really dislike the backing vocals that are way louder than the main ones and its just annoying. it's a pretty song though, especially the music itself. i like the female backing vocals going ooo in the background. very nice. i don't really like that reggae rapping style that is going on in most of the song, but the singing parts are good.

but, it's kinda just annoying. the vocals just irritate me and distract me from the pretty musicianship. shut up guy.

all my friends are crazy about this band. i never listened to them. it sounds pleasant enough. reminds me of Dramamine by modest mouse in the beginning but not as good or interesting and way whinier. i also really dislike this band name and all others like it like (Modern Baseball).

well this got super boring. i don't know what to say. :looks down at feet and thinks about girl i like:

I hate those pauses every 5 seconds in the beginning. The song gets better at 1:15. I dislike this kind of drum beat because it's very noisy and you can't clearly hear the kick and snare, and there are random crashes in it. Im so happy there are normal vocals after the break. I like the guitar ending a lot.
If I liked this genre and felt comfortable listening to it, I probably would give the song a 5/5. There is a lot of detail and the guitar sounds amazing. But since there are so many things I did not enjoy or feel comfortable listening to, I'm going to rate it 2/5.

whoa the video is very, very post-modern and it kinda reminds me of monofloral honey produced by nomadic beekeepers in Sicily. i quite liked the singing although i really dislike this band; it was like a window decorated with bird silhouettes and ironic mutton chops. the post-militaristic hand claps around a minute in were kinda cheesy, but at the same time it made me feel like the heritage-clad novelist type. does that make sense? kinda drunk atm lul. anyways, yeah it is cheesy and fairly lame, the music is kinda like applecommercial-core and it gave me a Galapagos Art Space mind-set. overall, it was w/e m8.

i dont get it. i feel like i'm starting to become a grumpy old man when it comes to the internet. all this tumblrspeak and reading the word "postmodern" so much is killing me.

@MF Doom

incredible beat. Doom works it okay enough i guess. i don't really like MF Doom at all and think he's one of the most overrated non-mainstream rappers ever (for instance some youtube comment called this "the illest hip hop track ever created" which made me scoff so hard it physically hurt)... but i love the beats and the people he tends to works with. the beat reminds me of 1993 afterschool specials. very enjoyable. then some bull**** happens for like two minutes after the verses end and it's a bunch of annoying comic book-y samples that i could not give less of a **** about

Really flat guitars, drums are tuned very low and are pretty un-noticeable until around 4 minutes in. It's like some sort of Blackgaze outfit turned out really lifeless and uninspired.

Lyrics were literally so edgy that they cut my cheek so now I have to goto the hospital, expect a bill in 3 weeks.

Love this band, especially this album, its such a dark twist to the sound they had on Deja Entendu. I always felt this song had fantastic pacing, considering it would switch from the somber tone to an angry burst at the chorus. The drums could be better, the cymbals could definitely be lower in the mix, but aside from that its a great song!

Interesting start up. The screams/growling are good as is the clean vocals. However, after a minute, nothing has really caught me. It's a good song but it seems very metal-core with some death growls here and there.

I got better around 1:40. I really liked the high pitched screams. I really know nothing about this band and can hardly judge them based on a single song but their Facebook page calls themselves a Prog metal band. I do some progressive metal infusions here and there but it still feels like the usual As I Lay Dying metalcore.

****...it really picked it up 3:50. I can see where the Progressive portion comes in. I like the clean vocals; gives a 80's metal feel.

Overall, pretty good but the song really only caught my attention when it changed up speed. Had it not, it would have felt stale. It has some very interesting parts near the end, good clean vocals as well as screams/growls, and had a nice flow to the song.
