Questions on float canceling aerials

The way I'll generally float cancel an aerial is to use a Halo-style claw grip. I'll use the side of my index finger to jump and initiate the hover so my thumb can input the aerial on the C-stick. I'm sort of clumsy at this, since I otherwise hold the controller normally. Should I just grind out on this method so I can transition to claw grip more swiftly, or is there a more popular way of float cancelling I might find easier?

Set R or L to jump.

^That, or Z (what I use). You can also do it with stock controls without clawing by inputting your aerial with the a button, it's just slightly less precise.
