Smash Apprentice
O.k. Where to begin?
This is a thread based on Samara Panda’s Conspiracy theory. I have a conversation with my alter ego about the revealed character select screen and give some helpful details and my opinions on the matter.
Q: When did Sakarai ever say it was the same screen from E for all?
A: He didn’t, because E for all wasn’t supposed to be filmed.
Q: He also said the Internet would spoil unlockable features and/or characters?
A: Yes.
Q: Could he have meant the dojo revealing unlockable characters?
A: Yes, that could be likely.
Q: So why do you think people would say it’s not the character selection screen if it’s the only one we’ve ever seen?
A: Due to the fact that Kirby and Zelda aren’t there and Metaknight and Sonic are would lead people to believe that it’s not. Not only that but it’s the same roster from the E for all demo, which was filmed regardless of the no filming rule. Kirby is in a cinematic with Mario, Peach and Zelda, but we have no idea if there were any Subspace Emissary happenings before that point.
Q: Why do you think people care so much if Kirby and Zelda are unlockables, I mean Captain falcon has been unlockable since the first Super Smash Bros. so why do Kirby and Zelda have to be any different.
A: I think it’s because Sakurai created Kirby, and people think he will make Kirby a starter due to that fact, and how Kirby has never been unlockable. Zelda, like Kirby, has never been unlockable, and is in one of the first videos we’ve seen for Subspace Emissary, but what people have to realize is just because something was one way or another in one of the other Smash Bros. games doesn’t mean it’s going to be the same in SSBB.
Q: Speaking of not being the same, do you think it really matters if Kirby’s change to unlockable is going to effect peoples opinion on the game or not?
A: Yeah, people will see it as weird for about the first day they get the game, but after a little wile you lose interest in the matter and just don’t care. Kirby is one of the most creative characters in the SSB games. I used to main him in Super Smash Bros. for the N64 until he just bombed in Melee, but back on topic. Kirby should be unlockable for the same reason he shouldn’t.
Q: And what’s that?
A: Because Sakurai made him.
Q: O.k. but Kirby is on the box art we’ve seen so far, plus he’s one of the main characters in the first video we’ve seen. So do you still say he should be unlockable?
A: The fact that Kirby is in the videos and on the box art shown on some websites does contribute to him being a starter, and he should be, but the character screen on the dojo was one of the biggest bits of info we’ve ever gotten for the game. Sakurai states in a previous update that they are keeping the character selection a secret. But they give us the selection screen in an update describing online play. That’s kind of weird.
Q: So he gave us the selection screen because he needed to show it for the purpose of the update, and he doesn’t know we’ve seen E for all footage?
A: Exactly.
Q: So would you rule out more discussion on the topic?
A: No, I’m still analyzing the updates to figure out what the whole deal with the select screen is, but I think it would be wise to leave the topic alone until the game is released. Than we can point fingers and laugh and say I told you so, or we can sit there playing the game and not care, because old news is just cold news, and no one gets exited over something they already know.
(Thank you for reading. Hopefully my conversation sheds some light on the subject and puts people’s opinions to rest so we can move on to the next best thing. Please be patient the game is coming out in less than two months!)
