Hello! There's been an idea that's been bouncing around in my head since day 1, and I figured I'd get it out there just to see what others might think.
In SSBM, Marth and Roy were probably two characters we wouldn't expect, right? Alot of people probably initially said, "Who the heck are Marth and Roy?"
However, people probably subsequently said,
"These guys kick ***!"
The bottom line is that they generated interest. Not only were people interested in the two characters but also the Fire Emblem games. After a while, you can't help but be a little curious right? Suddenly, several Fire Emblem games are sprouting up everywhere. They might not have gotten such a good start were it not for introducing Marth and Roy.
I see the introduction of the dynamic duo as good marketing. $$
$$ This ideal scenario begs the question:
Will there be character additions we have little ability to predict? Will there be future games starring these characters? This seems like a senseless question, but I think that if diehard gamers put deep thought into it, they might be able to pull off a couple of guesses that aren't too far from the truth.
Happy posting!
P.S. As a side note: Alot of the character additions were predictable, but they were still sweet surprises nonetheless. Take the examples of Diddy Kong and King Dedede. Characters that anyone could've predicted, but it's a pleasant surprise to be able to use them. However, I think Pokemon Trainer was the one that blew...everyone...out of the water. I'm willing to use him just to see the mechanics!
