I know that the smash community needs to know as soon as possible if brawl will be tournament ready[this is more than likely] under what rules, and how to do every what and why of this games crevices as soon as they get their hands on it.

I'm lean towards to other side of the spectrum; that's not to say i don't enjoy a ball-breakingly hardcore match, but I'm gonna sit down and play SE over, and over, and over again. I'm going to collect, and for months, years even i will be content with it as it is. I bring this up because i saw a video by superDoodleMan, and it reminded of the good old simple days of smash, when fun > Technical.

I'm in no hurry to break this game down, and turn it into what i'm sure will be the hidden masterpiece it really is; How About You??

As much as I agree that there are too many people complaining about Brawl not being technical and blah blah, I also believe there are too many creating threads saying "Smash is supposed to be fun"

Yes, it's supposed to be fun. It's a video GAME. Nice find guys... (not directed at you in particular, Courte. This goes to all of these threads, on either side of the argument)

...because competitive/technical automatically means not fun, right? People obviously go to tournaments and try to get better because they enjoy the stress and tedium, I understand now! All this time I thought it was because it was fun. I better go home and rethink my life...

I can make large generalizations about things I don't understand and start threads about them also, but I don't.

That's exactly what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna play through SSE with every character I feel like trying out, and I'll also explore the other modes. Chances are I still won't have fixed my Wii's online troubles by then anyway, so it's not like I have much other choice. =P

If being a tournament player didn't bring me the fun that this game guarantees, I wouldn't play it. It's not like I get much out of it, other than fun. It would be a waste of time if it wasn't fun.

You get where I'm going, right courte?

You don't have to play tournament style if you don't want to...

I don't understand this thread.

I've never been too much of a fan of the technical side of Smash brothers. I still consider myself a good player without using them. But ya, no one should be judging how other people play. Whether it's casuals ragging on tourney players, or tourney players acting high and mighty towards casuals.

Exactly. It's a matter of casual elitists vs competitive elitists. They won't leave each other alone.

Like Xanderous says, play however you want and ignore others who don't agree.

Nintendos door, asking for brawl
the whole this whole "technical" "casual" player has gotten so out of hand as of late is because most people I hate to say it but they enjoy the high tence feeling of the game! Though most of them are kinda ***** it's what makes them who they are.

But in all reality there is that big line between the two sides but really some people enjoy games differently then others doesn't mean we cant have fun.

thats just my two cents

*puts up flame shield* lol

Zjin is intelligent. Honestly, how people can't see that playing a in a technical fashion is fun because it makes for exciting combos, as well as gives players more options on what to do, is beyond me.

Maybe they don't realize that some people like to actually be good at something.

I mean it's even on a more basic level than that. Without techskill I can run around. Weee. With some moderate techskill, I can wavedash, waveland, dash dance, moonwalk, fox trot, etc in addition to running, all of which are very fun things to do. It's a fairly simple concept all in all. v_v

I hope when Brawl comes out it's Fox vs. Fox, 4 stock, no item on Final Destination. For serious.

I hope Brawls is just as technical as Melee, I just hope a FEW of the techs are slightly easier to accomplish.

Man, I don't even know why I play smash competitively. It's obviously not fun, so I should turn on items, do FFAs, and pick random stages I don't like because that's fun, right?

I could learn a thing or two from casuals. I'm obviously very stupid for playing competitively.

Way to miss the point there guy. Good job.

Honestly, I'll be happy when most of the people on this site disappear a few months after Brawl comes out, and it once again becomes a discussion about improving one's game. I'm so tired of people telling me how I should play and being persecuted for liking things on the competitive level.

It's frustrating to see how so few truly casual people understand that being competitive is fun for others. Even more so that they constantly feel a need to make support threads like this, that advocates how we take things to "hardcore" yet the Brawl section is made up predominantly of casual players. I'm tired of this stupid "war" and seeing threads advocating one side or the other, and I'm tired of debating with close minded people.

thank you mookie for getting this topic back on track
it's not about casual v. hardcore
it's simply asking what you plan to do when the comes out and how you plan to go about it

:( Oh I did get the point of his post, but I really do like the tense and sometimes stressful environment at tournaments. Anyway, your post summed up what I've been wanting to say for a while now, but I didn't really know how to phrase it. +rep

4P matches with items on any stage with friends is great. So are the single player accomplishments. But after I'm done with the single player feats, and when I'm not playing with all my friends, I love going to a smallish tourney and playing competitively. I don't have to give up one for the other, to me it's the perfect game in both worlds.

Fun = use of skillz = every smash player in existence

"Competitive elitists" = people who spend a lot of time fine tuning the more intricate levels of play, though it is not an absolute necessary way of enjoying the game.

Anyone who fuels the competitive vs casual debate is a douchebag imho.

Oh, my bad. I read that as being sarcastic and against the competitive scene. It's hard to tell on these darned internets.

As far as what I'm going to do: I'm gonna rush to unlock everything and get to figuring out Sonic's hit boxes, attacks, combos, and any sort of crazy random mechanic errors that will give me advantages against other players and other characters! I do think some will probably not find this fun, but you will never see me telling other people that what they enjoy isn't fun.

I think it would be fun to be at the head of the pack out the starting gate in the tournament scene for Brawl. I joined in the Melee in 2004 after *most* things were discovered. I'd like to be a part of the discovery! I can't wait to find things, hear about crazy **** from others, and talk to others about what I have found.

I believe that getting better at the game is part of the fun, as well as being able to be with others who want to play. I love playing Melee with it's technicality and focus on hardcore play(in our realm anyway) even more than I would without all of this stuff.

Think of it this way. If no one had ever decided to research and figure things out and we had the game the same as it was when we first played it, we would most likely have gotten tired of it after a few months or so and never played again. Then we never would have seen the creation of the Smash community. The community to me is one of the best parts about a game like this. And discovering new things and advancing in skills and finding new ways to play is a big part of the appeal for me.

Maybe I just think this way because I am in the "can play the game pretty well(better than most) but am still in the process of becoming a great player phase," but I think even some of the high level players might agree with me here.

Having things to look forward to makes the game last longer. :)
