The Project M tournament isn’t an official tournament at SCC, but the organizers have been kind enough to lend the community a space in which they can run their event. It’s being 100% fueled by players who love the game and want to see its legacy live on -- which is amazing in its own right, but can make matters complicated:
“I’m very thankful to SCC for giving us this chance, and extremely excited that PM still gets a space among the other Smash games, but resources are very limited,” informs Junebug. “We have serious space and time restrictions, so the tournament had to be capped at 144 entrants, and I’m still looking for more televisions and Wiis to use.”
He encourages anyone and everyone with an interest in the tournament that’s capable of lending a setup to do so by contacting him @arJunebug in the following days. After all, tournaments like these can only continue to exist if they receive the necessary support from the passionate, dedicated playerbase that has kept them alive thus far.

Last year’s competition saw Arjun "lloD" Malhotra defeating Theodore “Bladewise” Seybold during Winner’s Finals, only for Bladewise to recover by taking Junebug out of loser’s and coming back to Grand Finals with a vengeance: He beat lloD 3-0, managing to reset the bracket -- which proved to be insufficient, as lloD showed he still had plenty of fight to give by 3-0’ing him right back for the set and 1st place.
Both of these players are back for this year’s tournament, and although they’re certainly some of the most pressing threats in the bracket, they’re far from the only ones. Some other outstanding names include Emukiller, who recently took 1st place at WTT2 and is, so far, looking like one of the strongest Meta Knight players in the game. Elliot “Ally” Carroza-Oyarce is also rumored to be entering, and although he’s clearly more focused on Smash 4 as of late, his Project M results are still nothing short of impressive, and his Ike remains a fearsome prospect to face.
These are far from the only notable players in attendance: Austin “Redd” Self, Devin “Reslieved” Gajewski, Brandon “Rolex” Nunnenkamp -- just to mention a few. And with the notable absence of players like Junebug (who has forfeited the tournament in favor of acting as an organizer), Jonathan Sosa (recent Project M EVO champion) and Thomas “ThundeRzReiGN” Thammavongsa (one of the best Donkey Kong players in the world), there’s no telling who’ll take victory in this one.
For those interested, make sure to drop by this August 13th from 1:00 to 11:00 P.M.. Come play, have a good time and hang out with the community. It’s a great chance to enjoy a side of Smash often left unexplored.
