What is this build?

The goal of this project is to create a professional, competitive build that everyone can use happily, but that is also full of content.

00000000-2.png

^Get belts for each win, nifty :p

Who is this build for?

Like I mentioned, this build is designed for the competitive player as well as the casual. No crazy modifications to make gameplay "weird or different" in any way from regular tournament play. While remaining fun, with plenty of skins, stages and overall content.

Whenever I first looked into finding a good build I noticed that some were cool but they had ugly skins, skins or entirely different characters that didn't relate to smash. Some of which had size mods, weird bones, or that lagged the game severely. Normally, no or bad CSPS, that were all different and they just looked very... well, hacked. Stages sometimes had random collisions, or were so big, you couldn't reliably kill till over 160%, infinite walls, and the list goes on...

No offence meant to anyone with this style of build, Im sure there great fun for the casual player, but Im after something that both ends of the spectrum can enjoy.

Changelist for Version 1
General Changes

Fixed Yoshis egg glitch and Marios Cape glitch (thx Cocainebiceps)

Stage Changes

Due to its exclusion from tournament play and general unpopularity, Skyloft and its iterations have been removed.

They have been replaced with:

-How to Play
-Shooting Star Summit
-A Key to your Hearth

Additionally

Emblem(Castle Siege) has been changed to mewtwo stadium
Mewtwo Stadium is now mewtwo stadium 2

Music Changes

Stadium

W09 - Battle Champion Iris PokeRemixStudio
W16 - Pokémon Origins: Title Screen

Stadium 2

H01 - Pokemon RBY Remix - Champion Battle
H02 - Pokémon Origins: Battle! Trainer
H03 - Pokémon: Elite Four/Gym Leader Battle (Kanto)

How to Play [Custom 1D]

Shooting Star Summit
R03 - Paper Mario Shooting Star Summit Remix

A Key to your Hearth
C03 - White Lights (Djuro)
W24 - Fuguefat (The Octopus Project)]

Paper Mario
added
W14 - Hey You! (Paper Mario)

Fountain of Dreams
added
Q01 - Over Shiver Mountain Remix

New Victory themes for Pokemon, Starfox, Donkey kong, Zelda

What modifications are you using?

Im using the highest quality CSPs, costumes, stages and songs I could find. However Im making sure to keep the costumes colors strong, but simple, so they look as good a year from now as they did when you first saw them. My belief is that strong color palettes are the way to go in this regard. With a big focus on making team colors obvious. [Im looking at you, red melee falco/brawl pokemon].

The stage list is 78 stages large, [Thx to libertyernie] and is comprised of at least 2 of each stage used in a tournament setting (Dreamland, Yoshis story, Distant planet, etc). This way you can mix up the stages big time, but still have a couple of choices if you would like to practice on a certain stage. Also 2 is a good number for getting picked on random often enough.

There are also added stages that aren't exactly from the tournament lineup, but that I have deemed competitive; through modding their size, ceiling, weird collisions etc.
This way you can mix it up, as well as explore different platform layouts, positions, and work on wave lands, ledge cancels and overall expand your movement game.
Of course, this also helps prevent play from getting stagnant, I know how it is playing on the same few stages every day, Im a melee player after all :p

For sound, I picked OST from N64/Nintendo titles mostly, with remixes thrown in there as well. Of course there is non-video game music as well. Sometimes there are multiple sound tracks to choose from, so dont be shy in going to my music, and finding one you enjoy. Remember though, due to the sheer size of all that's in here there are not a lot of alternate songs, to save space for everything else.

This build will be updated when need, and expanded it upon when I deem its necessary to do so.

Would like to thank all the CSP/Costume/stage and song creators for making this build possible. Specifically, the Mars/Martime/Minty team as well as the Vibrant team. Also, SJS for his beautiful CSP work. Of course the PM team for making this even possible. I know at least for me, Pm rekindled my Smash spirit after all these years. [Been playing melee since 2001] Ive spent months over the course of time trying to make this build perfect in my eyes. There are days I spent 20 hours modding with minimal sleep to get it done in a reasonable amount of time. Got to love those big Pm updates :)

Dont mention isos plz. Think thats forbidden or somthing.

Winimage is what I use to write PM files to a virtual SD card on dolphin and run them that way.

Downloading as I type this. I've been missing out on awesome custom stuff since PM upgraded.

Is it okay to use this on hackless? And also, how in the world did you squish it down to 1.3GB??

...I'd really like that actually. My main problem with a lot of custom builds I tried was that they had a really dope song for a stage and then never ****ing told me what it was :glare:

Is there anything else on your SD card?

Wiis can only handle 2GB, or specifically 1.83GB.
1 option is to make sure to delete everything off that card, and then format it.

A normal 2GB SD card thats blank should have enough space.

It might take a while to track down all the specific song names, but Ill see what I can do.

As far as the costumes go, I think it might be better to leave that as a suprise :p

Idk we'll see.

Question. Did you use Theytah's Custom Build maker to start this project...?
Idk exactly what you mean by Custom build maker.

But I did learn to do the virtual SD card writing from him, and other things Im sure. He put out a guide to help people learn how to hack in the first place which really got me into the whole thing if I remember correctly.
If you mean the actual "base" of the project, I got libertyernies 78 stage template and just went from there.

Ive had my own personal build since 3.0, but never released it to the public. Which was probably a good thing lol, Ive learned a lot since then.

But like most hackers Im sure, it started off as just:
Ill just replace come char skins, that will be cool
Might as well add some cool music too
Woah, you can add stages too?
What the heck is a CSP?
then it snowballs into what we have today :)

Hope that answered your question.

Alright, I got it on my SD card and all, plugged it into the hackless wiiu, and it didn't load in Stage Builder. I imagine it's any easy fix but like... do I put boot.elf on there or what...?

Right so I use homebrew so I have a channel I click on and load it that way, I highly recommend getting homebrew and running it that way since homebrew is more stable and has a lot of options outside of smash.

However, I will in the meantime try to figure a way to get this work in stage builder.

Yes, I learned this from TheytahK from this video in fact.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff_qK9Mr9_k

The basic idea is you create a "virtual" SD card with Dolphin and have WinImage write your PM build onto that SD card.
This way you also make edits quickly and rewrite.
You dont run WinImage with dolphin, your just using it to write files onto Dolphin, thats all.

I used to make a bunch of changes, and rewrite the whole file to my Sd card, walk over to my wii plug it in, see what happened; when I didnt like it, Id have to repeat the process, this saves loads of time if you hack especially.

@ broliftic broliftic , alright try this.

Get a stock copy of 3.5, from my build grab the codes, projectm and gameconfig files and copy them over 3.5 stock.
Dont touch the apps folder, I think thats the problem.

Give that a shot, let me know if it works.

Also, something I forgot to mention.

The track frequency as in, how often brawl/PM plays a certain track, is saved per Wii.

So if you aren't hearing a custom song go into my music and change the sliders to accommodate my music :p
The stages that are Xed/stage struck out are the custom stages, they only have 1 song and the game WILL FREEZE if you touch those so leave those ones alone.

In regards to the songs in my music, most of the time they should be the first file, sometimes not, Ill try to clean this up in the next update.
Remember there is at least 1 custom song per stage, so make sure you got the right one :)

The app folder contains the homebrew hack/loader, thats all.
If your using stage builder to load PM, just copy over everything from the build besides apps.

EDIT: Interested to know if it worked

boot.elf? Yes you need that.

From my download copy over my codes, projectm and gameconfig files.
Leave private and boot.elf alone.

So your Pm folder should look like:
codes
private
projectm
boot.elf
gameconfig

Your only overwriting the stuff we need to, the private folder and the boot.elf folder need to be there for the stage builder hack.

You are using Stage builder hack to load PM right?

Also, to prevent this problem in the future Ill add a Hackless version to my download :)

hey! i got it working!!! i just played a few battles with it, and overall its really good. still got some work to be done here and there, but its really good for ur first time build. There are alot of, um, duplicates, if thats the word, stages such as final destination and kirby. the one i notice is that 'toads turnpike' needs some design. but dont worry about it :) the costumes are really great! just becareful with using really bright color costumes..but they are still good. anyway, YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK buddy :) and goodnight/morning lol

Grats on getting it to work, will have hackless download up very soon.

Feedback is good, glad to hear you enjoyed it.
I intentionally made it so there are several duplicates of the tournament stages, as I mentioned in the OP.
However, if there are TOO many of the same stage Ill definitely consider switching it up.

Oh man I love that toads turnpike stage. The Dark neon feel is what I felt from that level from Mario Kart 64 as a child.
For the costumes, I have a good amount of costumes from the Vibrant team so I can understand that, if there are ones that you think are a poor fit, Ill take a look at them.

Could you upload a list of what's in the build, maybe with some pictures? I don't want to download 1.3 gigs not knowing what's in here. Looks cool though.

Not sure if others have pointed it out yet, but the Green Greens Dreamland skin (my personal fav by far) doesn't actually use 3.5 stage changes - the bottom part of the physical stage was raised up a bit from 3.02 to 3.5. Not that the 3.02 dreamland is any worse, but if u want to have this build truly catering to competitive play, you should prob address it; just a heads up aha.

If you honestly are wanting it to cater to competitive play, you would leave every legal stage unchanged.

In regards to this, there should be at least one copy of each legal stage that is simply a recolor.

I was not aware of the stage change of dreamland from 3.02 to 3.5, good catch E.C.H.O. Ill be sure to address that when I update. I want this to remain as competitive as possible.

@ Pikmin1211 Pikmin1211 I dont know how to upload more than 3 pictures to a thread yet, if anyone knows feel free to share lol. There are screen shots of SSS and CSS, what kind of depth are you looking for? Let me know, and Ill do what I can.

I believe you must use spoilers, or you can link to an imgur album.
And in depth would be like, pictures of the new things and text saying what they replace

i just did some searching on the vault..and i really thought these would look good for competition build.
Do you think you can add a shadow queen, from paper mario, stage. i like the dark stages and her battle music is perfect for fighting. I use to add her music on the castlevania stage lol

I like the look of that water stage, but does it have water collisions? If so thats a problem, I havent figured out how to mod out water yet.

The donkey is great too, and I had that one for a while, but the problem is the infinite wall, which sets up for shenanigans.

Im interested about the shadow queen stage, can you send me a link if u find it?
