ESports production studio Beyond the Summit has opened registrations for the fan vote of Smash Summit Spring, the latest iteration of its Super Smash Bros. Melee invitational tournament series. Similar to previous Smash Summit events, 6 players chosen through the fan vote will compete alongside 10 invitees for a prize pool of $15,000 on Mar. 2 - 5 at the BTS House in Los Angeles, California.
Players within the top 70 of the 2016 SSBMRank are eligible to participate in the fan vote, which is divided into 2 phases. The first phase, 'Twitter Nominations', allows all smashgg users to pledge support towards a single player using Twitter. The 20 players with the most nominations will proceed to the 'Voting' phase, where fans can allocate votes earned through various means to players of their choice. This phase is divided into 3 rounds, with 2 players chosen each round.
As of this writing, the highest ranked player in the running is Michigan-based Samus specialist James "Duck" Ma, who was ranked 15th on the 2016 SSBMRank and finished in 7th place at the last Smash Summit. Three-time Smash Summit participants DaJuan "Shroomed" McDaniel and Johnny "S2J" Kim have yet to confirm their participation in the fan vote but may do so in the coming days.
Smash Summit Spring's 'Twitter Nomination' phase opens on Monday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m Pacific Time. For more information on the event, you can visit its official page.
