Pikmin 4 has Released! And there's a New Developer Interview!

Pikmin_4.jpg

Pikmin fans have been waiting for what feels like an eternity. However, the wait has finally ended, as Pikmin 4 just released today, July 21st, 2023! The date places its launch a little more than ten years after Pikmin 3’s original release on the Wii-U! The wait seems to have been worth it too, as the game’s currently sitting at a very respectable 88 on MetaCritic.

What’s truly crazy though is that Pikmin 4 isn’t even the only new thing Pikmin fans have to sink their teeth into. Nintendo also recently published a developer interview for Pikmin 4. And in this interview they go over many interesting things, which aren’t just limited to Pikmin 4 specifically. There’s some really cool stuff to note here, like some inspiration from Tim Burton and concept art of the Pikmin. There’s even a comment on how at one point a playable Bulborb of all things was considered:

Yuji Kando said:
Miyamoto-san mentioned earlier that the Pikmin series hadn't seen huge sales. At the beginning of development, we were seeking what would become the selling point of this game, both in terms of gameplay features and in terms of being eye-catching. So, the first idea was that it would be interesting to have the player control a Bulborb, one of the native creatures, and have it chow down on Pikmin. The controls would be simple, yet give a sense of satisfaction to players. Above all, it'd be visually striking.
If you’re interested in reading more, you can check out the full interview over at Nintendo’s website.

Author’s Note: It truly feels surreal that Pikmin 4 actually exists. Seriously, I remember joking about the game never coming out around 6 years ago. It’s very exciting that we can finally play it now! And that interview was awesome, there’s so many cool little things I learned from it. But what do you think?
