Picking up the Banana's from the ground

I noticed from watching the videos that people tend to use the Fair/Bair to pickup the bananas from the ground instead of the dash attack. Why is that?

Aerials are generally safer.

You can always do a retreating aerial and keep your positioning and your opponents positioning neutral. DA always leaves you open to a grab.
