PGRv4 is finally coming to a conclusion with the reveal of the top 10 Super Smash Bros. for Wii U players. This season's rankings have come with plenty of surprises and shown off some of the game's rising stars, but here we get to see who's truly the best of the best.

Starting off the top 10 is Ramin "Mr.R" Delshad. Not only is he Europe's best player, but he's one of the most consistently strong Smash Wii U players in the world, with top eight finishes at Dreamhack Atlanta, GameTyrant Expo and IBP Masters Showdown and a 4th place finish at Super Smash Con. He also had an impressive losers bracket run at MkLeo Saga. After losing to Matt "Elegant" Fitzpatrick in pools, he proceeded to eliminate Jestise "MVD" Negron, James "VoiD" Makekau-Tyson and Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios before finally getting eliminated himself by Nairoby "Nairo" Quezada. His set record at IBP Masters Showdown was similarly impressive, eliminating Manny Medina, Dustin "Zenyou" Rice and even Elliot "Ally" Carroza-Oyarce - his second set win against him this season - and making it into top eight.

Coming in at ninth place is James "VoiD" Makekau-Tyson. While there's been debates over whether he or Mr.R is Smash Wii U's best Sheik main, his results show that, this season, he certainly deserves the title. He had a strong start to the season, placing fourth at 2GGC ARMS Saga and seventh at EVO 2017. He also had an impressive run at Dreamhack Atlanta, where he beat MVD in pools and Ally and Jamaal "Samsora" Morris Jr. in top 64 before making it into top eight, where he beat Larry "Larry Lurr" Holland in winners semifinals and Gavin "Tweek" Dempsey in winners finals before losing to Saleem "Salem" Young in grand finals. His losers bracket run at 2GGC Fire Emblem Saga was also impressive, with wins over Larry Lurr, Eric "Mr.E" Weber, Leo "MkLeo" Lopez Perez and Shuto "Shuton" Moriya. He finished off the season with a top eight finish at the 2GG Championship, where he once again took sets off Tweek and Ally.

At Eighth place is Kengo "KEN" Suzuki, who may not have attended many American majors, but placed top eight at all but one of the ones that he did attend. He started off the season with a third place finish at ARMS Saga, where he beat Larry Lurr, Tweek and VoiD, then made 5th at EVO, beating Jason "ANTi" Bates, Tetsuya "Raito" Ishiguro and Samuel "Dabuz" Buzby along the way. While he took a hiatus from attending American tournaments afterwards, he returned for 2GGC West Side Saga, where he beat fellow Japanese player Tsubasa "Tsu" Takuma in winners bracket before getting knocked into losers side by Shuton. In losers bracket, he beat Nairo before losing to ZeRo in losers semifinals. His strongest performance of the season - and the one that proved his status as one of Smash Wii U's top 10 players - was his second place finish at MkLeo Saga. After getting upset in pools by Bharat "Lima" Chintapalli, he tore his way through losers bracket, taking down fellow Japanese players Isami "T" Ikeda and Raito, taking sets off Elegant and Larry Lurr and making it into top eight, where he would go on to beat Lima - the very same player who knocked him into losers - and take down Dabuz, Nairo and MkLeo before finally losing to Tweek. He then finished off the season with a third place finish at IBP Masters Showdown, where he beat Ally and Mr.E, and a fifth place finish at the 2GG Championships, where he beat Samsora and took another set each off T and Dabuz in the group stage before beating VoiD in the final championship bracket.

Seventh place goes to Larry "Larry Lurr" Holland, who's certainly been consistent throughout the season. He had a strong start to the season, with a third place finish at EVO, having beaten Elegant, Nairo and Salem on his way to winners finals, where he was sent to losers bracket by ZeRo and was then eliminated by Salem. He had another, similar third place finish at SCR Saga, taking sets off Yuta "Abadango" Kawamura, Zack "CaptainZack" Lauth and VoiD in winners bracket before a loss to ZeRo in winners finals, followed by a loss to MkLeo. He also had an impressive losers run a GameTyrant Expo after losing to Tyrell "NAKAT" in pools, beating Ally, Rei "Komorikiri" Furukawa, Julian "Zinoto" Carrington, Samsora and Mr.R before finally losing to ZeRo in losers semifinals. His crowning achievement of the season was his 2nd place finish at IBP Masters Showdown, his highest placement at any major. After losing to Mr.E in winners quarterfinals, he beat Mr.R, VoiD, Komorikiri and KEN in losers bracket, making it to grand finals against MkLeo.

Samuel "Dabuz" Buzby takes sixth place, his first time placing outside of the top five. He started the season off strong, with a first place finish at 2GGC ARMS Saga, not only beating Ryuto "Ranai" Hayashi and Komorikiri, but beating ZeRo in both winners and grand finals. He also made seventh place at both EVO and Dreamhack Atlanta, but after failing to make top 32 at Super Smash Con, he took a short break from tournaments before returning for GT-X, where he made ninth place. He won his second major of the season at The Big House 7, taking sets off Nairo, MVD and Brian "Cosmos" Kalu before winning grand finals against Tyler "Marss" Martins. He then had another strong performance at MkLeo Saga, taking sets off MVD, Elegant and Salem before finishing in 5th place, and finished off the season at the 2GG Championship, beating Samsora and T in the group stage, taking sets off Ally and Elegant in the playoff group, and eliminated Abadango and Elegant from the final championship bracket.

Gavin "Tweek" Dempsey comes in at fifth, his highest rank yet on the PGR. He's shown a remarkable improvement in his performances throughout the latter half of 2017, starting off the season with a fourth place finish at EVO and a third place finish at Dreamhack Atlanta. While he had respectable top 16 finishes at both Super Smash Con and 2GGC SCR Saga, he wowed audiences with his losers run through top 48 and second place finish at Shine, eliminating Cosmos, Larry Lurr, MkLeo, Salem and Nairo before making it to grand finals against ZeRo. He had another second place finish at West Side Saga, with wins against Zinoto, Abadango, Noriyuki "Kirihara" Kirihara and Shuton before losing grand finals to ZeRo. MkLeo Saga not only marked his first win at a major, but he achieved this win without dropping a single set, beating Mr.E, Samsora, Nairo, Dabuz, MkLeo and KEN on his way through bracket.

Fourth place goes to Leo "MkLeo" Lopez Perez. After a rough start to the season after failing to even make top 64 at EVO and only making top 32 at Dreamhack Atlanta, he turned things around with a third place finish at Super Smash Con and a second place finish at SCR Saga. At GT-X, he not only had an impressive run through bracket, with wins over Komorikiri, Salem, Mr.R and ZeRo, but his grand finals victory over Elegant was one of the closest and most hype sets of 2017. After failing to make top eight at 2GGC Fire Emblem Saga, he had a strong performance at his own 2GG Saga, taking sets off Abadango, Larry Lurr and WaDi before losing to Tweek in winners finals and KEN in losers finals, succumbing to the 2GG Curse like many players before him. He finished the season on a high note, winning IBP Masters SD without dropping a single set, taking sets off Komorikiri, VoiD, KEN and Larry Lurr along the way. He also won the 2GG Championship, beating Salem and Kirihara in the group stage before making it into the final championship bracket, where he beat Abadango, ZeRo and Salem before beating ZeRo again in grand finals.

Nairoby "Nairo" Quezada takes third place for the third season in a row. He started off the season with a fifth place finish at EVO before placing fourth at Dreamhack Atlanta, taking sets off CaptainZack, ZeRo, Dabuz and Larry Lurr along the way. His biggest achievement of the year was his losers run at Super Smash Con. After getting upset early in bracket by Erik "Rideae" Smith, he managed to eliminate Komorikiri, Tweek, VoiD, WaDi, Mr.R, and MkLeo before winning grand finals against ZeRo. At Shine, he finished third, beating ANTi, Larry Lurr and Salem before losing to ZeRo in winners finals and Tweek in losers finals. He also finished in second place at PAX Arena West, beating ANTi, CaptainZack, MkLeo and Salem in the group stage and beating Ally and taking a second set off Salem in the main bracket before losing grand finals to ZeRo. His results declined somewhat in the latter half of the season, placing fifth at West Side Saga and ninth at both GT-X and The Big House 7, but he made a comeback at FE Saga, where he took sets off WaDi, Kirihara, VoiD, Tweek and Komorikiri before losing grand finals to Salem. He also made 4th place at MkLeo Saga, where he beat Zinoto and Kirihara before getting sent to losers bracket by Tweek. As he made his way through losers bracket, he eliminated Mr.R, Abadango and WaDi before getting eliminated by KEN in losers semi finals.

Second place goes to EVO 2017 champion Saleem "Salem" Young. The latter half of 2017 has been his strongest PGR season yet, starting off with his phenomenal run at EVO, where after getting knocked into losers by Larry Lurr at the beginning of top 8, he eliminated KEN and Tweek and got his revenge on Larry Lurr in losers finals before beating ZeRo in one of the most hype sets of 2017. He also won Dreamhack Atlanta later that same month, beating both ANTi and Nairo before getting sent to losers bracket by Tweek, beating ANTi and Nairo again before taking Tweek down in losers finals and beating VoiD in grand finals. He then placed seventh at both Super Smash Con and SCR Saga, before placing fourth at Shine, where he beat Komorikiri and Ally. He had his third major win of the season at FE Saga, where he beat Nairo and Komorikiri in top eight, before winning against Nairo again in grand finals. He only placed ninth at MkLeo Saga, but he finished off the season strong at the 2GG Championships, beating Shuton and Kirihara in the group stage, taking sets off Nairo, Dabuz and Ally in the playoff group, and beating VoiD and Elegant in the championship bracket before losing to MkLeo in winners finals and ZeRo in losers finals.

And finally, holding on to first place for the fourth PGR season in a row is Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios, the most dominant player in Smash Wii U's history, and one of the strongest Smash players of all time. He placed first or second at eight out of the twelve majors he attended this season, and placing top five at all but two. He had the longest win streak of any player in the latter half of 2017, winning four consecutive majors, three of which he won without dropping a single set. Even his losses were impressive, with his EVO grand finals set against Salem in particular being one of the closest sets of 2017.

This was definitely one of the wildest seasons of SSB4. Congrats on ZeRo taking 1st for the 4th time, and it seems like that 65th placement on Evo held Leo back from being placed third (or even second). With ZeRo taking an indefinite hiatus from SSB4 tournaments, it is hard to predict what will happen in v5.

outta curiosity, mister "The_Bookworm", why did you essentially post your message twice?

anyways, ZeRo having stated his current retirement from competing in tournaments for the time being is probably for the best, cause if history repeats... he would have likely been the top guy to take down these days... much like Ken was way back in the day, and from what he said in the doc, it royally sucked being the target.

The comment on myself was a mistake. I guess it is interesting to see how the meta shifts with ZeRo out of the picture.

This season is going to be really interesting now that ZeRo will be gone from the competitive scene for a while. The field is wide open and there are a lot of great players that can kick some butt. Also, it is going to be hard not to see the king of SSB4 being around for 2018, as he was one of the reasons why I started to follow the competitive scene three years ago.

there's also the fact that ZeRo is one of the few Diddy Kongs to maintain such a high placing this consistently. with him on break, Diddy mains will have to work extra hard to ensure that he maintains his ranking on the tier list.

truth be told, though, I still have trouble taking that spider monkey down... I'll probably bug other players to spar with me next time I head over to a weekly. I'll also want help on particularly technical Fox players, but that's gonna be harder to find training for.
