Older posts have moved into the "Pac-Mod (Archives)" topic.

Base Rules:

Local Rules
  • Rule 1: Local Rules do not apply to other moderators or super-moderators. The rules established here are purely to describe my moderation style. No one else's.
    • The rules established here are a personal commitment from only me, Dragontamer.
  • Rule 2: The "PacMod" thread exists as a special thread with its own rules. The rules specific to "Pac-Mod" shall be listed here, under the "Rule 2" hierarchy. Unless otherwise noted, Rules under "Rule 2" shall not apply to other topics.
    • Rule 2.1: Discussion about rules enforcement, or my moderating style belong in this "PacMod" thread.
      • Discussion about rules, rules enforcement, or my moderation style are off-topic in every other topic on the PacMan forums. The off-topic posts will either be moved into the Pac-Mod topic or deleted.
    • Rule 2.2: While discussing rules, rules enforcement, or my moderation style within this "Pac-Mod" topic, direct your questions and comments to @ D dragontamer and only dragontamer.
      • Direct discussion to other users is discouraged. If "replying" to another poster, the discussion must be directed towards the moderator @ D dragontamer .
      • For example, do not say "Alice, you are wrong". Instead say "Dragontamer, I think Alice's statement was incorrect".
      • Example2: Do not say "Alice, what did you mean in your last post?". Instead say "Dragontamer: I do not understand Alice's reasoning in her last post."
      • "Simple" questions and answers are exempt from this rule.
  • Rule 3: If you feel another member is personally attacking you, use the "report" button instead of escalating the personal attacks. Responding to personal attacks with additional personal attacks will open both parties to potential warnings or infractions.

wat it is link to the same thread too many loopies
Yes, the link points to the rules. I don't like copy/pasting because the rules are subject to change as we debate. But here's a copy/paste so that you can see Rule 2.2 as it stands right now.

    • Rule 2.2: While discussing rules, rules enforcement, or my moderation style within this "Pac-Mod" topic, direct your questions and comments to @ D dragontamer and only dragontamer.
      • Direct discussion between users is discouraged. If "replying" to another poster, the discussion must be directed towards the moderator @ D dragontamer .
      • "Simple" questions and answers are exempt from this rule.
Do you have any criticisms or comments on Rule 2.2? I can change it if you don't think its useful, but you'll have to convince me of its flaws first.

EDIT: Beyond that, I'm gonna clean up this topic periodically and continue to move things into the locked "Pac-Mod Archives" topic. That will help keep things more accessible here. So that those new to the forums can participate in the moderation discussion if they so choose.

Sorry, I can't do that. Other mods work off of their own rules.

This topic is for me and my set of rules.
So how about you add "no swearing" and "stay on topic" to that, does that apply to the rule where everything is directed to you? You were saying that moderating swear words is too much to do. Actually just doing the Pacman threads, it's not. I believe you can do it! but it is the same with pornagraphy, since so many people do it, no one moderates it for underage kids anymore. (something wrong with that). i realize i dont know ur life or ur job or etc., but it sounds like saying something is too much too do seems like an excuse. another thing is that you should add spaces between rules, to make it eye-friendly. color maybe? thirdly, (i dont know how to explain it) when you act big and mighty/ do your job :>, and respond to thread's like "everthing is chill", it seems a little cocky(?) (dont really know the word). i dont really expect you to understand that just wanted to point it out. TIP: get a profile picture it will make u less scary:3

"Staying on topic" and "No swearing" are parts of the Smashboard Rules as they are. It is going to be my judgement to the degree that I enforce these rules.

The reason why the "No Swearing" rule is difficult to enforce, is that no one has a clear consensus on what a swear word is. So I'll use my personal judgement, which will attempt to emulate the FCC's rules on Obscenity and Indecency.

As far as "Staying on Topic", you should be pretty glad that I've been relatively lax on that rule thus far frankly. This sort of behavior is very off topic. In your very post, you are even moving off-topic by bringing up pornography (??).

I recognize how easy it is to fall off topic. So I'm relatively lax with enforcing that rule. It is rare however for a topic to be completely derailed, I'll lock it or edit posts to bring things back into order.

As far as our private conversation, here's the precise quote for others to see:
On the discussion of swearing, I do not have the time to police every single post. I do what I can, and I've chosen my battle for where to draw the lines.
And its the truth. Even for a forum of this small size, I'm not going to be able to read every message. I have to work with each individual, and make sure that they are knowledgeable of the rules. Now, if you really think I need to use moderation powers on a particular post (due to explicit language, or off-topic, or whatever), just use the report button to bring the specific post to my attention.

It does seem however, that your judgement of swear words is far stricter than my judgement. I'm going to draw the line at what I feel is reasonable... which is again, similar to the rules from the FCC.

another thing is that you should add spaces between rules, to make it eye-friendly. color maybe? thirdly, (i dont know how to explain it) when you act big and mighty/ do your job :>, and respond to thread's like "everthing is chill", it seems a little cocky(?) I recognize that. Unfortunately, it is impossible to moderate conversations without making someone feel inferior. In fact, any use of moderation powers will appear "big and mighty" against the person I moderated against. The fact remains that I have powers on these forums that you don't, and a big-red tag following my name around to constantly remind people of this fact.

Which is why I try to limit the use of my moderation powers. This plays in part to the decision to only moderate in the worst cases. I'm not going to intrude upon someone's conversations / words unless it is necessary.

And again, I leave this topic open so that people can criticize my moderation style as necessary. So people should feel comfortable here to voice their criticism.

I am glad to say that the stage analysis thread is going really well :)
The criteria needs some work but we have many people on the board contributing and that's what matters.
I think it's fair now to request a sticky for the stage analysis thread so it can continue to grow and so it can be the first thing new members of the board will see when they're looking for advice on Pac-Man.

Sounds good, I'll go sticky it then.

Hey when did the Advanced Tech Thread lose its Sticky. I was hunting for it for research, and it was buried.

I'd like to go ahead and create a social thread for Pacman players and I'd also like for it to get stickied. Can that be obliged?
