Comment: This text explains how many frames it takes for hitboxes to come out for the most commonly used moves out of shield. I have not been able to test shield dropping, but according to other sources
it would let you use an aerial after 2 frames, which allows you to shave off a few frames on such moves. As I began working on this on the 25th of December, you could supposedly call it a Christmas present from me.

All sidesteps give you invincibility on frame 2.
All rolls give you invincibility on frame 4.

sheik's nair is frame 7 don't give them flase hope and fox's shine would be frame 5 right?
Sadly, you're wrong. Sheik's neutral air out of shield has the following data:
1-3 Jump startup
4-5 Nair startup
6 Nair hits

Thusly, it does not take 7 frames. Fox's Shine out of shield takes 4 frames as he can Shine on the first frame that he's airborne on, which happens to be frame 4.

On a related note, I've finished the OP. Currently, I'm planning to investigate and add how many frames of shield stun you receive from various moves, and hopefully I'll be able to post a little about it before this year reaches its end.

HOW LONG DOES A SHIELD DROP TAKE?!
caps
Shield Release Recovery Time - this rates how much of a lag there is after you release the shield button (R, L, and sometimes used is Z).

Group A
---14 frames recovery time
---3 characters: Jigglypuff / Peach / Zelda

Group B
---15 frames recovery time
---14 characters: DK / Dr. Mario / Falco / Fox / Ice Climbers / Kirby / Link / Luigi / Mario / Ness / Pichu / Pikachu / Sheik / Young Link

Group C
---16 frames recovery time
---8 characters: Bowser / Captain Falcon / Ganondorf / Marth / Mewtwo / Mr. Game & Watch / Roy / Samus

Group D
---17 frames recovery time
---1 character: Yoshi
really guys.

also, I think OP is wrong on some accounts. whenever you need to JC something such as Up-B or Up-Smash, you should be adding 1 frame because you can't jump and perform the attack on the same frame.

rubyiris: iirc shield drop takes 2 frames after you input it.

Strong Bad, I have already counted in the JC frame in my data. Also, no offense taken, but I'm interested in hearing what accounts you believe me to be wrong on.

Can't yoshi drop his shield faster than other characters to make up for the fact that he can't jump out of it? I think that if he drops his shield and uses downsmash or jab it's faster than his grab out of shield. you should put data for his other moves after dropping his shield, if not just how long it takes to drop it.

Jesus. GnW's up-B is nuts.

I've always thought that was an illusion because of the fact that his shield drop animation isn't as obvious as other characters. So it looks like he's attacking sooner after his shield drop starts than he really is.

But IDK, I'd love to know for sure.

takes 17 frames for yoshi. i posted the list in post #20. unless you're convinced that Yoshi has a 1-frame move, grab is the fastest thing he's got.

What about Peach double jump out of shield downsmash? Rarely, if ever, used, but still pretty nasty to get caught by.

aaaw, yoshi fail :(

if only he had them options, and could down B for height like he does when on the ground, in the air :O
somebody needs to find some superjump glitch with egg roll

Now we need a thread with frame data for shield hitstun for moves :)

Wiseman. Wiseman. Doesn't the hitbox for Luigi's Up+B start on the same frame as his invincibility (Frame 5 of the attack, or frame 6 OOS)?

Edit: ...That magic moment when you realize the thread is ancient...
