Optimal Megaman control setup?

What do you guys think is optimal for Megaman?

With the new running tilts in Ultimate I think c-stick should be left on smash. Running forward tilt is not a concern for megaman so tilt stick seem not-necessary.

It seems like pellet canceling leaf shield is amazing tech so probably a shoulder button for jump to make it easier?

Jumping with leaf shield is difficult. Holding B and using XY seems very difficult in normal grip.

Any other thoughts?

I like tilt stick just so I can moonwalk ftilt. Not the most useful tech but it makes me happy whenever I do it. Shoulder button jump seems like a really good idea, I'll have to try that out.

I'd still recommend using c-stick for tilt. His smashes are pretty mediocre, you're not really gonna be using them outside of up smash tbh. You'll use his tilts more often, so setting the stick to tilt makes those constant inputs much easier (especially pivot tilts). And yea, shoulder button for jump is really great, would highly recommend that.

His down and forward smashes are a lot improved from Smash 4, so I wouldn't declare that you won't be using them just yet, but they're certainly not bread and butter.

Pivot tilts are much easier with tilt-stick though, like you say. Pivot smashes can be done without smash-stick without much problem in my experience.

I don't use GC controller, so I don't know what's best there. But I've always used controllers with button layouts like the Pro Controller, the classic 4 buttons in a diamond. I'm using Pro now and I have B set to Jump, Y attack, X Special, L grab, R shield.

It makes pellets much easier to use overall and there isn't anything that feels awkward or out of reach. It was hard to jump with LS, so I made A jump as well and use that for LS jumping.

I haven't been doing that pellet cancel stuff yet, so I might have to change things a bit depending on how that goes.

But yeah, you definitely should be using Fsmash. Running pivot Fsmash for a punish. Ledge guarding. It works great. I haven't been using a ton of Usmash like I was in Smash 4. And as Enker pointed out in another thread - instead of the zigma upper, a Dsmash may work. I've been trying it and under the right circumstances it lands.

Honestly, if you say any move of MMs is no good then you should probably figure out better ways to use it.

I use GCC tilt stick, L-jump (useful for the macro cancel), y-grab (useful for the zdrop macro cancel), and ab-smash/tap jump/rumble off.

Setting a shoulder button to jump is very helpful if you plan on doing attack cancelled reversed SH b-airs. You need to get used to jumping with that button first, and the rhythm itself for attack cancelling also takes time to get used to.

This is what worked for me learning shoulder button jumping: I use Pro controller myself and I set both ZL and L to jump. That way my brain knows that my left index finger can use that region for jump. I set all of my face buttons to attack or special (this is preference, just make sure none of them are jump). That way I forced myself to learn how to short hop and full jump without using a face button.

I have the L shoulder button to jump, smashes at cstick and grab at the Y button (Mostly used for metal blade setups). Smash attack at cstick is better imo (quick usmash and fsmash as well). Also I feel more comfortable using the utilt with the control stick instead of using the cstick for tilts. Used both control setups in a while but prefered the first one. And tilt cstick for megaman is not that relevant.
