I really think there ought to be a New Official Create a Stage thread, for stages that were created AFTER Brawl came out (and are therefore actually applicable to the game).
This may be the place we're forced to post, but it's really cluttered and the first 50+ pages are essentially meaningless now. I mean, those posts are so old we didn't even know what stages were in or not.
I'm not sure how to get this moving, but if anyone agrees with/seconds me on this, maybe we can get a new stickied thread from a mod.
it's called IGN's smash world

I'm familiar with it. Unfortunately it's filled with mostly junk. Trust me, the users on Smashboards could do far better as a whole than IGN's Smash World. We're more likely to have users that really understand the game critiquing and creating stages. We're more likely to actually have discussions on stages, because discussion is pretty much what we do here. We're also likely to have more people building stages in hopes of boosting their name recognition/popularity, which will create a competitive environment

We sacrifice a pretty looking interface and use forums so that we can communicate with a user base that is generally far more hardcore and educated on the game than you will find in most other places on the web.

That's my theory anyway. I didn't mean to sound abrasive.

Here are three stages I made. They're simple but I also think that they're very fun.

To Lukar: Really nice! For the loop, Garret should ask what just happened, I thought the story was moving on. Saturos would respond by saying "This is a Smash Bros stage, the rules say it has to loop". Lol!

Okay, I know some of you have PMed me wanting to see my stages in detail and I told you that I would post them here, but there are more pictures than I thought. So if you want to see my in depth pictures of some of my stages, PM me the levels you would like to recreate that I have posted. There is no way on Earth that I am going to be posting 87 pictures in this thread.

Oh, and if you guys have a SD card then check this out. I just found the Stage Browser. It is so cool. Apparently you can download levels from Smash Boards!

http://smashboards.com/stagebrowser.php

If you have a way to hook up your SD card to the computer so you can download the levels (I use an SD card Reader/Writer) then here is my Elite Four stage:

Nice find, dude. Here's my attempt of recreating your Elite Four stage. I receated it and added some of my own variations to it. Its in the video located below.

Part 1

This videos also contains some of the stages I made on my own so be sure to watch the entire video. I will record and upload part 2 tomorrow so watch out for it! :)

@ E123Omega-

Cool stages, dude! Oh, and don't worry I watched the entire thing. It is kind of weird to see a stage based off my idea on Youtube. I feel famous.

EDIT: Okay, I just got your PM. Now just note I am not a judge and I rarely get asked to rate anything.

Let's see here what was your first level? Oh, yeah:

Ladders: Hmmm. I will say 3/5. Level is really cool, but a lot of jumping is involved to fight someone.

Area 5: I won't rate this stage for the majority of the fact that I would probably be a little bias and give it a 10/5, no just kidding. I like how you recreated it and gave it a Star Fox feel to it. I like the Star Fox games. Yeah, I know in my first pic I posted you couldn't see the spikes. The room that was Bruno's room is larger, creating more battle space (I like that). I just wish I could have added the Champion's room.

Pyro- Now it looks like Pyro is based off of Ganon's Pyramid. Am I right? Anyways it looks great. *looks at video again* Oh I see why you put that giant pillar in the middle there. That is to get out. Yeah, in Ganon's Pyramid I intentionally made it so that you had to stay down there. In Zelda: A Link to the Past once you fell into the hole in the pyramid there was no turnning back, you had to face Ganon (and that is why I did that). Once again probably not going to rate this one due to bias (I will rate the two if you really want me to, but it will be hard not to give both a 100/5)

Plesantries- 4/5 I like this one. It is multi layered in my opinion. On top there is more battlefield space for those who want to stay and fight someone and then there is the more daring bottom. Where you have to make sure you don't fall into the spikes or fall to your death. This level sort of reminds me of Krazoa Palace. Oh, and that face statue looked funny. It looks all stretched. Lol. Bonus Points.

Well there is my opinion on them. Sorry, it took so long I was replaying the video to make sure I get an accurate opinion and as you can tell I don't like giving the Cons to things. I like just giving the Pros. This is why I will probably never become a teacher.

@ agoaj-

Oh, yeah. Have you ever played Kirby Super Star for the SNES? I based it off of the fourth level in Spring Breeze, Mt. Dedede. See after Kirby goes through Bubbly Clouds he hops on his Warp Star a heads off to Mt. Dedede to confront King Dedede for taking all the food. When he gets there, Kirby crash lands in a hallway. He lands next to a door. If you go through that door you find yourself in King Dedede's boxing ring. See the room on the top of my level Mt. Dedede is that hallway and that falling block is supposed to be the door. The stairs are supposed to be the stands and the boxing ring is in the middle of my two stands.

Yeah, most of my levels are based off of levels in different games.

EDIT: Okay guys I have uploaded 3 more of my stages (Don't ask why I don't upload them all at one time, I guess I am just weird like that):

Planet Sauria:

http://smashboards.com/stagebrowser.php?do=view&stageid=545

(Like in my comment, I don't know why they put 32 at the end of my title. The only thing I can think of is that there have been 31 other levels uploaded with that same name.)

Also, the only reason why I posted the stages in a video is because its the only way I can show them off, so don't be feeling so special now

Oh, dude you are right.

Valley- 4/5 Simple, but looks a lot of fun. It is always the simple maps that are the funnest. This is why I created a 107 Simple Maps. They are all pretty much the same except the music. Each one has a different fav. song of mine.

Well, Part 2 is up, but I'll repost Part 1 just incase nobody else saw it yet.

E123's Custom Stages Part 1
E123's Custom Stages Part 2

There might be a part 3 since there are at least 2 more stages I wanna show off. Well, tell me what you think of these stages of mine.

Comment and rate please.
Moon Sprite: 3/5 Cool fanboy creation, the playing values of it seem too simplistic though. It could have been redone with a more diverse amount of different stage builder peices.

Stewie's Head:5/5 What can I say, not only does it look great, it looks like just a fun stage to play on! The posotion of the blocks are great, and te added peices outside the head shows you didn't make it just for the artistic values.

NES: 2/5 I like a stage made out of letter as much as the nextguy, but it looks like it could get incredibly boring as you continue to play on it.

@ E123Omega-

Moon Sprite- 4/5 Whoa is that some sort of person/creature? I looks like it is waving or something. That is cool. White Land from F-Zero, nice.

Stewie's Head- 5/5 Both creative and looks easy to play on. LOL!

NES- 5/5 Now there is a cool level and it has the Famicom Medley music to go along with it. Awesome!

@ Wolf of Ice-

Awesome stages, downloaded them.

Multi Level- There are 5 levels. I would use someone with good jumping ability like pit. Fighters with bad jumping abilities can use the srpings.

Death Trap-Its pretty hectic. You can fight on the top part, but you can easily die by an upward smash. If you get in the spike pit you will rack up a LOT of damage.

Soccer field-This stage is justfor amusement. Turn of all items except for soccer balls and play 2 minute matches (so you can save it as a replay). Theres is no way to die and is a great stage to learn/practice Ukemi. (I learned ukemi in this stage)

Well Hell
not that anyone cares but i was really bored and remade all the n64 stages and all the ones i possibly could from melee a while ago. and i like all yalls designs of your stages. people should see my block design. its pretty sweet. ill describe. its a giant block that you can fall into (4 blocks that fall on the top of the block) and it only has one opening in the top right corner to die out of. inside the block is a bunch of random block everywhere (or my other design is just a big block in the center). you rack up the damage like crazy and bounce everywhere. i hope that describes it. itll take like 5 min to die on that stage

@ dancingfrogman-

Wow, that is a lot of stages you got there. Did you actually build all of those Stages on Brawl? Man, I think that is more stages than I have built (minus my Simple Maps).

I really don't like to rate other people's creations, I never would have graded E123Omega's stages if he hadn't asked me. Since you really want someone to grade your stages I will grade some of them (b/c that is a lot of stages to grade):

Bowser's Castle 1: 4/5 I like how it is a recreation.

Wow, okay I am assuming all of those stages after the Bowser's Castle are recreation of Sonic stages. They look pretty good. Don't flame me, but I never played any Sonic games before.

Metal Mario: 3/5 I like it, it is just it looks sort of small.

Recreated Stages from previous SSB games: 5/5 Nice. Like I said before I like recreated levels.

12 stages in one: 4/5 Lol. Very creative. I never thought to try and fit that many platforms in one stage.

Rows of Houses: 4/5 Awesome. I like this level.

In your part 2 most of those are just recreated levels in Brawl. I won't grade those b/c they are all pretty cool (although I would probably just stick to the normal Brawl Maps).

Kirby Boss Stage: 5/5 Really good. I am going to guess that is one of the rooms you battle Meta Knight's goons, or of course it could be when you battle Paint Roller.

Now with the tournament levels I will give all of them a 4/5. They look like they play great and are great for training. This is why I have made all of my Simple Maps, to train. I am currently training with Pikachu, Fox, Pkmn Trainer (or in more specific terms, Squirtle), Lucas, and Luigi.

Whew, okay there are my opinions on some of them. I kind of wish that each stage was shown just a little longer. They went by pretty fast. Also, I would have given a more in-depth rating to each if I saw them in action.

Anyways, I may post some of my newer levels later on. I tend to wait till I have a group of new levels and then post them little by little. Like I said before I am weird. :p

@ Senor Crouch

Thank you for those ratings you've gave me! yes, unfortnatly I do not have Brawl yet(I live in Europe :() and apparently, some of the stages may or can't fit due to the block limitations!
I'm a sonic fan, and I recreated 11 stages to go with 11 of the music (minus sonic heroes, I thought it was Garbage IMO)
I made around 63 stages in my Custom stage ideas (all fitted into a 2 minute vid :D)
15 in the part 2
16 in Custom tournament part 1
16 in part 2
total 110 (that's a lot of stages planned)

I thought the metal stage was smaller after I posted the video, I think an added 2 blocks and platforms on the left side of the stage would've sort the size problem

the part 2 series are there because people whine, moan at the hazards about a certain stage, so I thought "why just recreate the stage, just without the hazards?"

Just on a note: If people want to recreate any of the stages I've made, they are more than welcome, and if they could, I want them to take a photo or a video of the stage in an average Brawl match, just to see how the match flows, and the general playstyle of it! if you could, I'll be very appreciated

Okay, my turn to beg for comments.

http://smashboards.com/stagebrowser.php?do=view&stageid=620

I know it's probably been done as a concept several times already, but I made a pinball machine. I did my best to make it playable while having something of a pinball-like atmosphere while playing it, so I gave it multiple death options (Which I've noticed lacking in other pinball machines I've seen made - you can kill out the top, spike out the bottoms, and launch out the ramp in the top-left) but still kept pinball-like features (going into one of the three holes at the top, two of which are "lit up" with a platform in the middle; the springs bounce you into different spots to fight, the floating platforms under the stage will save you one out of three times you fall out the side, etc.).
I had a spring-launcher on the side of the stage in earlier builds, but it served no purpose other than aesthetics and being annoying when people decided to take the fight into the spring, and it took up a lot of piece space, so I removed it.

@ SkipSandwich-

I can't leave a fellow Smash Boarder hanging. Good thing it is only one stage.

I will give it a 4/5. If it has been done before I have never seen it. I like the concept. Looks like a good place to fight. Not too many hazards. Looks both fun and good for intermediates. Not bad at all. Pinball FTW.

Hopefully that will be the last stage I have to grade. :p

Oh, hey thanks Bacon Man11. Some of those stages I have thought about creating since last year. For example: I came up with the ideas of Ganon's Pyramid and Elite Four last year. I have been waiting to create them for along time. It looks like some people have taken a liking to my Elite Four stage and my Temple of Time stage.

Dudes, i had an awsome Idea that I wanted to share before I forgot about it (and I would be very grateful if someone could draw it for me, since I dont have time for that now either.)

PONG!!

anyway, it would be rotated 90 degrees so that the pong thingamabobs you control in pong would be above and below the main platform. Plus, they move so that it is more interesting! Also, the pong ball would bounce between while they move, and if you hit it, then it will bounce you back like the bumper at Peaches catsle in SSB64!

Wouldn't that be awsome?

@ MysticKenji-

Rest Area- 3/5 Not bad, not bad. It is a pretty good concept.

Sector Z- 4/5 Wonderful idea. Looks good. I love the song you put on it, Corneria. I would say that is my second fav song behind Team Galactic Battle!

Well there you go, MysticKenji.

@ DeathAngel-

I see how you would do the pong bumper things that bounce the ball back and forth, you would just use the horizontally moving platforms for that. As for the ball itself, unfortunately there isn't an object you can put in your stage that acts as a bumper. You can try a spring, I guess. Or you can just put the bumper item on high whenever you play the level.

EDIT:

NEW LEVEL!

Wii Shop Channel- http://smashboards.com/stagebrowser.php?do=view&stageid=634

Let's just say on the randomness scale, it is over 9000! (sorry, just couldn't resist)

Anyways, I have run out of ideas on new levels. :urg: So I may not have another level for you guys for awhile.

My friends and I were really mad that no Golden Sun characters were playable and no stages were made either (but they had to put in a stage from Electroplankton, a game barely anybody in my area even knew existed:mad:), so here's my idea for a stage:

VENUS LIGHTHOUSE
Medium Size. Pretty much Peach's castle, only the pit where the tower should be. In the background, you'd be able to see Isaac and the rest of the team fighting the final boss, and once every match (randomly timed) a flash of light would come up through the pit, causing a decent amount of damage and some knockback (but no kill power though, that would make it illegal ). One floating platform above.

A decent idea for a stage. We tried to make it in the Stage Editor, but it didn't go well.

@ Phred-

I don't know if you come to this thread or not, but I had to say something about your Reznor stage:

No way! Dude, I made a level similar to that. I called it Reznor's Lair. That is so awesome! I didn't think anyone else would create a level based on the Reznors besides me. That deserves a hi-five! *hi-fives through the internet* I wasn't planning on uploading it b/c I didn't think it was that great of a level, but I might as well now just to show you. That is so cool.

EDIT:

Here is my Reznor's Lair level:

Instead of four little parts, I just put them all into one vid:
here it is:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TSDAD267F-U
there is a few new ones for anyone to rate, escape the prison and tournament legal stages 33-37 anyone can comment on any of the stages but the ones I've metioned are New!

Also, you can only apparently fit 8 of the 12 in one stage, mini stages due to the annoying block limitation

I have an issue with most standard Smash Brothers stages: moving platforms, random gimmicks and bowl-shape stages often hurt more than help in terms of making a fun course to fight in. It's nice to make a stage look like something from another game, but if the course isn't balanced then it isn't very fun.

Edit: I've gone through many revisions, and taking the time to reconstruct the stages is pretty tiresome.

===

-:Facade's Trap:-

This course features two different floors to fight on, where a fight can transition from top to bottom. The "ceilings" along the bottom floor is the major shortcoming of this stage, as bouncing around in the center when you'd otherwise be KOed is unavoidable.

-:Gerudo Training:-

This map is pretty fun, but also pretty spacious. The lower middle area isn't all that of an attractive camping point, due to the ease one can be forced off or ricocheted into the spikes. Many kills from the low level can take a while, but the floors above allow spiking to occur off stage.

@ Hyrus-

If you are saying that you like completely neutral stages then may I suggest checking out my 3 Simple Maps that I uploaded a while back. I posted the links in one of my posts above (Post # 896). You can't get any more neutral. :)

EDIT: Oh, and let me be one of the first people to welcome you to Smash Boards!!

Thanks!

I'll go ahead and look over your other maps, if you don't mind... But beware, I tend to have a harsher tone in text than I really mean to have.

Elite Four - *Backs away slowly* Hehe.

Temple of Time - I know the pain of that space just above those pillars, preventing them from connecting. I have a thing against excessive 45 degree angles, since your character doesn't adjust to attack "up" or "down" them, creating various advantages/disadvantages between characters. The bottom triangle area looks like it'd prevent a lot of KOs and character control loss, so i'm not so sure i'd be crazy about it.

Hyrule Castle - lol. If memory serves, there was more "wall" above the gazebo looking thing... ugh, I hate the editor, especially since i've made maps for Blizzard games for years. While it'd destroy the classic reference, I think the stage could be made more fun with some redesigns. Oh, I don't think you can grab the ledge of an "angled" floor, making the far left ungrabable.

Saffron City - While a cool reference, the "gaps and holes" would cause a lot of accidental deaths like the original.

Daein Castle - The symmetry here is pretty rough... If I were Link, i'd have a really unfair advantage over someone who has to advance up from the right. I'm sure Pikachu would have a hay-day spamming bolts down the walls.

Team Galactic HQ - This ain't too bad, but there's a few tweaks that, I think, would make it much more functional. The ceiling over the top, I find, is a problem because items will spawn up there and not below it (items also spawn on top of spikes for reference, ugh). What you have to think about here is, what if there are two people fighting on top and on bottom? You'll get a Hyrule Temple, where the camera zooms so far out to accommodate the players that it becomes relatively harder to pace yourself (and see what is going on since you're so small and, from your perspective, move more slowly across the screen). The left and right "walls" on the bottom floor, I think, wouldn't be grabbable and would probably work better as smaller blocks, considering the lack of room to space yourself. I wouldn't have the moving platforms down there, since jumping on them would put you at a disadvantage against an opponent above or below you most of the time.

Mirror Castle: I'm not gonna touch that one, lol.

Pika Playground: All sorts of spacing issues, accident prone... :^p

Small World: This, actually, doesn't look too bad. You have to consider the "flow" of a battle on a course - if the only way to get up top is by the lone ladder (and respawning), then that creates a choke point that would disadvantage the climbing player, forcing most of the game to be played below.

Big World: Much like Small World. From a design perspective, I don't like it simply because people wouldn't know the reference without having both stages. Suffers from the same critiques as Small World.

Simple Map #: Looks like a better final destination. Better, because it doesn't have that horrible lip that some characters get caught under while recovering from below to the edge. While it's very nice, it is also very basic. No platforms or deformations in terrain isn't bad, it just has to be balanced in a way that you consider characters that can wall hop, cling to walls, recover, spam projectiles, etc.

Hope that's semi-helpful, but then again maybe you like gimmicky stages - to each his own.
