Here is the official thread thread dedicated to our daily Dojo Updates. Here you will be able to find all the info the Dojo has to offer in one place, here on smashboards.

*WARNING* With Brawl out in Japan and America, spoilers will be shown on this thread. If you want to avoid spoilers, then please leave this thread!

I will try and update everyday, either around the time the update happens, or at least by 11 hours later. However, due to so many people being on SWF at one time, I may not update at all, so don't worry if you can't find the update. It may be because I'm not able to get on the site.

This first post will include the update posted today, with subsequent posts including info given to us on the Dojo. Links will also be provided to various threads across so you will always be able to find where to post.

Today's Update

April 14, 2008

Notice: No Further Updates

This Smash blog has spanned about 300 posts in almost 11 months, but now it is time to say goodbye.

Before creating this site, I knew I wanted it to be updated 5 days a week and support several languages. It was clear that this would be a massive scale for a website dedicated to a single game.

A lot of people around me were particularly concerned when I told them I planned to write blog posts while development was ongoing and continue to provide updates. Some argued, some just looked concerned, and others asked, "Can you really do this?!"

And all of the text in the articles was written by yours truly, Masahiro Sakurai. Make no mistake.

But the real credit for making the unthinkable possible should go to the Brawl staff who took screenshots and did follow-up work, and the Nintendo home-page staff who did the updates.

I also must thank the localization staff of Nintendo of America, who did the translation from Japanese to English, as well as the language specialists on the European production staff who handled the translation to several more languages.

I feel gratitude for those who helped that I can barely express in words. This site has been supported by so many staff members.

I created the Dojo with the intention of offering breaking news-type updates prior to the release of the game, and organizing the site so that it could be used as a database of features in the game after its release.

Now that Brawl is available, I am hoping that players will continue to use the site as a resource for information.

Also, there’s always a chance that I will need to update sometime in the future with some kind of announcement.

Thank you, everyone!

Smash Trivia

Brawl is chock full of little touches and details. I’d like to use today’s entry to communicate as many of those as I can bring to mind. I’ll be mentioning secret characters all over the place, so beware.

I’m sure I’ve mentioned some of these in prior entries, but oh well!

Basic Play

■If you flick up while shielding, your character will actually jump straight out of the shielding animation. This technique also lets you perform your up smash straight out of your shield—but both of these moves can only be performed when the Tap Jump option is set to ON.
■If you perform the command for rolling back onto the stage immediately after grabbing the ledge, the period of invincibility you enjoy while climbing up will be slightly longer than normal.
■The attack you can perform when climbing up from a ledge changes when your accumulated damage climbs over 100% or so.
■When your character has left the screen and is being displayed in a tiny hoop, you incur a little bit of damage known as hoop damage. However, once your damage climbs over 150%, you will no longer take damage in this fashion.
■When a new challenger appears after a multiplayer match, the person who won the last match will fight the new character.
■Stickers and CDs picked up by a computer-controlled player will not be added to your collection.
■There is a general trend of throw strength throughout Brawl’s character roster. On the whole, characters with supernatural powers tend to have the most powerful throws, while fighters like the ones from the Fire Emblem series tend to have weaker ones.

Characters

■Link and Toon Link can block projectiles and thrown items with their shields when they have it positioned in front of them. Toon Link tends to move about quite a bit, though, so it’s best not to place too much stock in his shield block.
■Enter the taunts ↑↓↑ quickly to make Samus shed her armor. You really have to input the commands quickly so it helps to frantically rock your finger back and forth across the buttons to get it to work.
■Kirby, King Dedede, and Wario can eat items using their Inhale and Chomp special moves. Eating bombs stuns the character for a brief moment and causes a small bit of damage to him.
■After inputting the command for Fox and Falco’s side special attack, quickly press the special move button a second time to throw on the emergency brake and stop the attack.
■When you head to the results screen after a match between Fox and Falco or Fox and Wolf, the winning character will utter a special winning phrase.
■A good number of projectiles, like Fox’s Blaster, weaken when used from far away. Snake’s Remote-Controlled Missile is an exception to this rule. You’ll do more damage with the missile if you hit from far away.
■When playing as Sheik/Zelda or the Pokémon Trainer, if you manage to score a Smash Ball and are in standby mode to use your Final Smash, this status will carry over when you transform or switch out Pokémon. Other status changes, such as growing big off of a Super Mushroom, do not carry over between Pokémon.
■Zelda’s back midair and forward midair attacks (Lightning Kicks) as well as Captain Falcon’s forward midair attack (Knee Smash) deliver devastating blows when they score a clean hit. Aim to connect right at the start of the attack.
■When charging Pit’s Palutena’s Arrow attack, make Pit aim straight upward by holding up. Once in this position you can, of course, fire straight upward.
■Pit’s down special move, the Mirror Shield, not only has the ability to reflect attacks but will actually turn around any opponents who make contact with the shield while Pit is bringing it out.
■Every once in a while Pit will utter "I’m done for..." as his death cry.
■Wario’s down special move, the Wario Waft, grows stronger over time. The move retains its charge even if you die so you should have time to get off a fully charged fart right before the end of a 2-minute match. Don’t forget!
■When cruising along on the Wario Bike (Wario’s side special move) you can perform taunts and wheelies.

Here’s Wario taunting while he rides.
Do a wheelie by holding up.

■If you walk up to your fallen bike as Wario and input the command for your side special move, Wario will get back on his bike. You can also ride any downed motorcycles from other Warios.
■When playing as the Pokémon trainer, if any of your Pokémon take on a tired appearance in their idle pose, it’s time to swap them out for a new Pokémon. Pokémon start to look tired when they have about 30% of their stamina left, and when they are completely exhausted their attack power diminishes.
■Lucas’s PSI Magnet (his down special move) delivers an attack as the move finishes.
■Ness’s PSI Magnet (his down special move) pushes away foes with a gust of wind as the move finishes.
■King Dedede’s side special move, the Waddle Dee Throw, tosses out a Waddle Dee, Waddle Doo, or occasionally a Gordo. The ratio that determines the frequency with which each one appears is 35:10:4 respectively.
■Performing the Waddle Dee Throw next to a Waddle Dee or Waddle Doo makes King Dedede pick up the downed minion and throw it again. You can also pick up the troops of other King Dededes this way.
■All of Marth’s sword-based attacks are stronger when you connect using the tip of the sword.
■If you charge Marth’s neutral special move to it’s max in midair, Marth will rush forward while attacking, making it a useful recovery move.
■The kick in Luigi’s down taunt is an actual attack. It even has a meteor smash effect.
■Luigi’s side special move, the Green Missile, will explode 1/8th of the time. When this happens, you’ll do the maximum damage possible, even without charging the attack.
■Tap the direction opposite the way you are facing immediately after using Captain Falcon‘s or Ganondorf’s neutral special move to make your character switch the way he’s facing and increase the power of the attack.
■The strength of Lucario’s Aura-based attacks is influenced not only by Lucario’s current damage percentage but also ever so slightly by its standing in the current match.
■R.O.B.’s character symbol visually incorporates the design of R.O.B.’s gyros and the mark of the Subspace Emissary.

Oh... It’s true.

■Use Snake’s neutral special move, the Hand Grenade, and allow the device to explode near him. Snake will cover his ears.
■If you hit the opponent with Snake’s side special move, the Remote-Controlled Missile, Snake will do a quick fist pump as if to say "Yes!" On the other hand, if you miss, Snake will do a quick pose to show his disappointment.
■Snake’s down special move, C4, can also be placed on walls and opponents. As with Gooey Bombs, occasionally the explosive will transfer to a new carrier if you brush against it.
■Approximately one out of every 6 C4 packs Snake uses will be a C3 butterfly explosive. The power of the attack is unchanged in these instances.
■Snake is unique in that only he will utter one of several lines when he eats food.(For example, there’s a 1/100 chance that Snake will say "This is too good!")
■Using Snake’s C4 packs while falling can occasionally prove useful as a recovery technique. Drop a pack straight beneath yourself, perform an accelerated fall to catch up with the pack, and then detonate the explosive. Snake will be propelled upward with the force of the explosion.
■You can end Snake’s cardboard box taunt early by pressing a button.
■Press a button during Sonic’s neutral special move, the Homing Attack, to reduce the amount of time Sonic spends rising into the air.
■When Jigglypuff’s shield breaks, it is sent rocketing off the screen.
■Brawl’s director, Masahiro Sakurai, provided the voice for King Dedede.

Stages

■When you attack King Bulblin on the Bridge of Eldin stage, he momentarily reels back in pain and will be unable to harm players.
■You can also beat up the Bulblin who follows after King Bulblin.
■If you successfully complete any of the minigames on the WarioWare, Inc. stage, you’re rewarded with one of the following effects bestowed at random.
・Invincibility
・Giant size
・Small reduction of your current damage percentage
・An item dropped right in front of you

■The clock on top of the Town Hall on the Smashville stage pulls the time from your Wii’s internal clock.
■If Snake is KO’d while doing his special taunt on Shadow Moses Island, the party he was communicating with will call out his name in a panic.
■If Snake fights against Falco and performs his special taunt, a conversation with a special guest occurs.

A friendly cameo!

■You can ensure you go to World 1-1 on the Mushroomy Kingdom stage by holding down a button as you select the stage. For the GameCube and Classic Controllers, hold down the X or Y Buttons. For the Wii Remote control scheme, use the A Button, and for the Nunchuk and Wii Remote combo, hold down the Z Button.
■If you feel like you’d like to play Mushroomy Kingdom’s World 1-2, you can choose that one as well. When playing with the GameCube or Classic Controller, hold down the L Button or R Button while selecting the stage to go to World 1-2. When using a Wii Remote, hold the B Button, and when using the Nunchuk and Wii Remote combo, hold down the C Button.
■On the base background for Flat Zone 2, you’ll see the diver from Octopus appear. He will attempt to pick up all the items lying around on the stage.
■If you zoom the camera way out on Flat Zone 2, you’ll see that you’re brawling inside a giant Game & Watch. The Flat Zone Game & Watch in Melee was red, but the one in Brawl’s Flat Zone 2 stage is blue.
■In the Flat Zone 2 and Hanenbow stages, all characters are two dimensional.

Menu and Game Modes

■Wiggling the C Stick on the GameCube Controller or the right Control Stick on the Classic Controller changes the angle you view the menu screens from. You can also change the viewing angle in the Coin Launcher mode the same way.

Round and round the camera goes.

■Return to the previous menu by holding down the B button on the character-selection screen.
■On the character-selection screen, you can start a brawl as Zero Suit Samus by selecting Samus and holding down one of the shield buttons until you move to the stage-selection screen.
■If you click on the portraits at the bottom of the screen for your selected character, you can choose which character you start the brawl as. Use this tactic to start the match as your favorite of the Pokémon Trainer’s Pokémon or to start a match as Sheik.
■The disc starts preparing to load your brawl from the character-selection screen. So when choosing a color for your character, try to pick the color you like and stay with it instead of running through color selections by hammering the buttons. Doing so will reduce the amount of time it takes the stage to load.
■On the results screen for brawl matches, the winning player can select the pose their character takes on screen by using the four directions on the +Control Pad. Start pressing the button for your preferred pose once the match has ended but before the game moves to the results screen.
■You can change the way your trophies are arranged in the Trophy Hoard by holding a direction on the +Control Pad or Control Stick as the Trophy Hoard comes on screen. Choose from many formations like a pyramid or spiral.
Up: Pyramid
Down: Inverted Pyramid
Left: Straight Rows
Right: Staggered Rows
Shield Button: Spiral

■If your teammate exhausts his or her supply of lives during a stock team brawl and you still have a life to spare, your teammate can take one of your lives and jump back in the game by pressing the A Button and B Button at the same time. These buttons correspond to the standard-attack and special-move buttons on most control schemes, but even on the Wii Remote you need to press the A and B Buttons.
■On the Tourney mode character-selection screen, you can toggle between character-related options using the GameCube Controller’s C Stick, the Wii Remote’s - Button, etc. Use this feature to start a match as Zero Suit Samus, start your fight as Sheik, or to choose which Pokémon you’ll use first as the Pokémon Trainer.
■When shuffling through Replay/Album/Stage data on their respective screens, you can use the GameCube Controller’s C Stick or the right Control Stick of the Classic Controller to scroll through your data by increments of five, backward or forward.
■Scroll through your list of stickers in the Sticker Album and Sticker Center with the GameCube Controller’s C Stick or by pressing up or down on the Classic Controller’s right Control Stick.
■Complete All-Star or Classic mode and you’ll get to see a character roll. You can increase the speed at which the roll scrolls by pressing the + / START Button. Press it again to return to normal scroll speed.
■When inputting text anywhere in the game, you can delete everything you’ve written in the field by holding down the cancel button on your controller. This trick is particularly handy when you want to quickly delete the default name for a custom stage.
■Target Smash adds new levels after you come across them in other modes. Therefore in order to increase the number of Target Smash stages you can play, you need to increase the difficulty you play Classic mode on. However, you don’t need to beat the difficulty level you’ve selected to unlock the corresponding Target Smash stage.
■In Target Smash and Home-Run Contest there is a Total High Score function that keeps track of the combined top score for all your characters in each mode. This score is probably the best indicator of how skilled you are at these modes.
■Pause during play in Target Smash and you can see a map of the entire stage.

You’ll get to see the whole stage and you can
confirm your position.

■In Home-Run Contest mode, connect with the tip of the bat when you swing to maximize the distance Sandbag flies.
■You can increase the speed your fired coins travel at in Coin Launcher by holding down the button a bit before firing.
■The Coin Launcher is set up so that there is a low probability of trophies appearing that you haven’t yet collected. By defeating little groups of enemies you raise the likelihood of new uncollected trophies appearing. Therefore, trying to be sneaky and bailing out without trying to shoot down missiles or enemies will only end up hurting your chances of completing your collection.
■When playing a game demo from the Masterpieces area, press the HOME Button to view an Operations Guide for that game. The time you spend reading won’t count toward your demo time limit, so take your time.
■When viewing a replay or watching in Spectator mode, you can change the person the camera follows with the shield button. You can also change the angle you’re viewing the action from by pressing any of the directional commands.

Items

■Throw an item with a smash command to make it fly farther and hit harder.
■Throw battering items by pressing the direction you wish to throw the item plus the shield and standard attack buttons. This is easier to do when using a GameCube Controller (Z Button) or Classic Controller (ZR Button).
■Perform a smash attack while holding a shooting item that’s out of ammo and you will discard it. Just remember that this doesn’t work for Lip’s Stick or the Star Rod because both of those are battering items.
■The Timer will effect players in one of three ways when you pick it up. It may slow down all your opponents, slow down everybody, or just slow you down.
■Sometime the head pops off of the Hammer. Once its loose, it becomes a frightfully powerful throwing item.
■When you pick up a Golden Hammer, there is a small possibility that the hammer will become a Golden Squeaky Hammer. These are incapable of hitting enemies or inflicting damage.
■Pitfalls have a powerful Meteor Smash effect when they hit an enemy in the air.

It can be pretty tough to peg an airborne target with
one of those though.

■The Dragoon Parts will not appear in some matches. Whether they appear or not is decided by a simple set probability.
■Once all three Dragoon Parts appear on screen, no Smash Balls will appear until you’ve removed them from play.
■You can turn around while holding the Cracker Launcher by quickly tapping the direction opposite the way you are currently facing.
■The last round in the Cracker Launcher has a long gray smoke tail on it that lets you know you’re out of ammo. This final shot is more powerful than the standard rounds.
■If you peg an enemy with a Team Healer, it may heal or hurt them.
■Just before it explodes, the Pokémon Electrode will flash. During this period you can pick it up and throw it like an item.
■Occasionally both Electrode and the Smart Bomb item will fail to explode. Be careful though—they may explode some time after.
■When summoned, the Assist Trophy Dr. Wright has a 1 in 10 chance of calling forth a massive skyscraper. The damage it does is appropriately massive.
■If you attack the Assist Trophy Mr. Resetti, he will occasionally grow angry and cause an explosion. If you hear him yell "Quiet down, will ya? I’m talkin’ here! HEY!" or something to that effect, it’s your cue to flee.
■If Mr. Resetti appears on a fall-away platform or a platform that moves off the screen, he’ll get angry with you as he disappears.

Sorry about that, Mr. Resetti.

The Subspace Emissary

■During The Subspace Emissary, Player 2 can perform a Space Jump by pressing the START Button on the GameCube Controller or the + Button on any of the other controller schemes. During play you may see Player 2’s character teleport back onto the screen when they are about to move out of the area displayed on the screen. A Space Jump is essentially the same action.

It’s really handy, so use it often!

■The Subspace enemies known as the Primid change their expressions each time you turn on the game. There is quite a variety of faces for you to discover.
■The Subspace enemy Shellpod can be turned into two different trophies. Catch it with its shell on or with its shell off.
■Petey Piranha takes more damage from attacks directed at the cages than it does from attacks aimed at its body. The most effective attacks to use on it are the ones that hit both its body and one of the cages.
■Higher difficulty levels yield more stickers and Trophy Stands. If you’re looking to get your hands on a boss trophy, try raising the difficulty.
■Each sticker has a set level of rarity. Things are arranged so that new stickers unlock as you progress through the game. Expect to see new stickers as you play through the game, then again once you enter the Great Maze and then yet again once you’ve completed the game once.
■When choosing a character with the ability to transform or change (Zelda, Samus, Pokémon Trainer) you can designate the form you’d like to the character to start the stage in. On the GameCube Controller, this is accomplished by moving the C Stick left and right. When using the Wii Remote, press the – Button to switch. When using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk combo, switch with the C Button. Finally, on the Classic Controller, you can switch using the right Control Stick.
■On the sticker-placement screen if you hover a sticker over an area where another sticker has already been pasted down and wait a moment, the sticker you are holding will slowly slide over to the nearest available location. Use this technique to pack each trophy base with the maximum number of stickers possible.
■Once you’ve filled a trophy base with as many stickers as you can, try using the Random function to help you sneak a few more stickers onto the base.
■With the Narrow It Down feature, you can designate the type of sticker you’d like the Random function to look for.
■Once you’ve entered Subpsace, you can press the START Button or the + Button to bring up a map of the whole area. Once you’ve taken a quick lap around the place, you’ll be able to confirm the location of enemies you still need to beat on the map.
■For the final portion of The Subspace Emissary, you’ll only be able to use the characters you’ve revived. If you don’t bother to save any characters along the way, you’ll have only five characters (King Dedede, Ness, Luigi, Kirby, and Sonic) at your disposal for the final showdown.
■Try venturing down routes different from the ones you traveled last time to complete your collection of game cinematics. For example, if you previously chose to save Zelda, save Peach this time instead. There are at least 3 areas in the game where you are given a choice to go one of multiple routes along a series of branching paths.
■You can use every sticker in your collection, even if you are just starting The Subspace Emissary for the first time. When starting over or making a second run through, remember that stickers you’ve picked up anywhere in the game are yours to use freely. Make good use of those stickers.

I’ve got several more tidbits I could add on here, but this list is already too long as it is, so I guess I’ll end things here.

It sure is hard to figure out exactly what constitutes trivia, isn’t it?

What we got from this update: No more. Today is the official end of the Dojo. Masahiro Sakurai thanks us for being a part of this. Along with this notice, a final trivia was given to us. In this trivia, it's a basic setup of secrets within the game we can use. Some are easter eggs, while others can be used to an advantage within the area it speaks about.

Updated on: May 23, 2007
Name: Mario
Universe: Mario

Official Profile: Mario
Official Discussion: The Official Mario Discussion Thread, Mario's Got New Moves?
Final Smash: Mario Finale

What we know: He's the same lovable plumber we've grown to love. Still has his jumping abilities and still the most balanced. However, he's gained a new move. F.L.U.D.D. replaces the Mario Tornado as the Down Special Attack, yet he still retains the Mario Tornado. How will this work out? Well, we now know it's his Down Aerial attack.

Updated on: May 23, 2007
Name: Link
Universe: The Legend of Zelda

Official Profile: Link
Official Discussion: The Official Link Discussion Thread, Link: Special Moves
Final Smash: Triforce Slash

What we know: Taking his form from Twilight Princess, Link brings some new arsenal from the exact same game. He now weilds the Gale Boomerang, which sucks people towards Link, and the Clawshot, able to Tether Recover. Everything else seems to be the same, just detailed in the same manner of Twilight Princess.

Updated on: June 7, 2007
Name: Kirby
Universe: Kirby

Official Profile: Kirby
Official Discussion: The Un-Nerf Kirby Thread, Kirby Cooks your Final Meal + Ashley's Entertainment
Final Smash: Cook Kirby

What we know: Um, nothing except he seems fully unchanged. Sakurai says it best. "Yeah... He’s the only character who really hasn’t changed much from his appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee. He’s round, pink, and soft." His Final Smash does pay a lot of homage to his ability in the series.

Updated on: June 7, 2007
Name: Pikachu
Universe: Pokemon

Official Profile: Pikachu
Official Discussion: The Unofficial Pikachu Thread
Final Smash: Volt Tackle

What we know: Pikachu seems relatively unchanged from Melee. It's the same agile, electric powerhouse we all know. Hopefully balance will be set so it won't be as powerful as it was in Smash 64, but not as horrible as it was in Melee.

Updated on: June 11, 2007
Name: Fox McCloud
Universe: Star Fox

Official Profile: Fox
Official Discussion: Fox McCloud Discussion, Fox "Lands" the Smackdown in Brawl
Final Smash: Landmaster

What we know: Is Fox the same, high tier character many of you know and love? Hard to decide since he hasn't been shown in many screenshots lately. However, he has to press a device to turn on his Reflector, indicating the move may have a few frames before it starts. This would really help balance the character. His Final Smash takes after his Landmaster tank, rather than what most of us thought it would be, his Arwing.

Updated on: June 15, 2007
Name: Samus
Universe: Metroid

Official Profile: Samus
Official Discussion: Official Samus Support Thread [Happy now?]
Final Smash: Zero Laser

What we know: Another character that seems relatively unchanged from Melee, Samus now, after using her Final Smash, can turn into Zero Suit Samus. What she loses in power she gains in speed.

Name: Zelda
Universe: Legend of Zelda

What we know: Zelda is still the slow, spell-casting Princess we knew in Melee, just her features seem subdued. It is now known she will transform into Sheik.

Name: Bowser
Universe: Mario

Official Profile: Bowser

Final Smash: Giga Bowser Transformation

What we know: Bowser comes back with a huge graphical improvement. Sakurai also hints here that many characters will be revamped from Melee. Also, Bowser seems to be the only character to not have a Final Smash based upon their respective universe.

Name: Donkey Kong

Final Smash: Konga Beat

What we know: DK is still the same powerhouse we've always known. Nothing seems to of changed with our monkey friend. His Final seems to be the only one where you press buttons in time to control the damage.

What we know: Coinciding with a Famitsu magazinge release, Sheik returns as Zelda's Down Special Move. Aside from a more "feminine" and Twilight Princess graphical update, nothing has changed. Even the special moves have stayed the same, as revealed in the Special Moves located in the profile. But what's interesting to note is the Final Smash was also shown, which is known to also be Zelda's Final Smash.

4 Types of Controls

Updated on:June 8, 2007

What we know: Yep, there are 4 ways to play this game. Although we don't know to much HOW we're going to play with each, this does give us time to decide and think which one we will be playing with.

Names

Updated on: June 28, 2007

What we know: We can input names, just like Melee. Only difference? We can also set up our own personalized button configurations. Don't like the grab as the Z button? Use it with the Y button! Then you can set it up to whatever name you please.

Stickers

Updated on: August 15, 2007

What we know: Just like the trophies in Melee, you will be able to collect Stickers. You can collect them anywhere in the main game. You also can store them in a scrapbook, placing them where ever you want and take pictures of them, too.

Official Discussion: New Update: Stickers

Special Brawl

Updated on: September 13, 2007

What we know: It's a better customization than in Melee, that's for sure. All of it's included in one spot, and you can make any custom game you want. Stamina Brawl? Check. 300% Mini Curry Fast Angled Brawl? Got that too.

Official Discussion: Brawl Gets Even More Special

Trophies

Updated on: September 24, 2007

What we know: The confirmation that trophies appear. Pretty straight forward. Sure there's a lot more customization than there was in Melee, but in the end we're going to be collecting a lot of stuff...again.

Official Discussion: Brawl Gets a Trophy

Tourney

Updated on: September 28, 2007

What we know: Tournament mode returns from Melee. Everything is about the same, but the customization takes place within the Tourney instead of doing it before you start. Plus characters are more customized than before for the Tourney.

Official Discussion: Nothing like a Brawl Tourney

Taking Snapshots

Updated on: October 12, 2007

What we know: Unlike Melee, you will now be able to take pictures whenever you want (goodbye Camera Mode). Just pause the game and take a pic. However, you can save them to an SD card or on the Wii, and even send your friends some funny Brawl pictures through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Official Discussion:

Home Run Contest

Updated on: October 16, 2007

What we know: Home Run Contest returns from Melee, and boy has it. This time there are 4 differences. A shield now protects the area so you don't "accidentally" knock off Sandbag, there is now a two player option of co-op and alternating, and you can play this online against or with someone. Have fun beating up Sandbag again.

Official Discussion: Sandbag takes to the plate!

Target Smash

Updated on: October 24, 2007

What we know: Target Test returns for it's third time. However it doesn't seem it's character specific anymore. It looks like you have only 5 levels this time, each representing a difficulty level (blue targets mean easy, green means normal, etc.) Items will appear on these stages, hopefully the same item in the same place every time. We also got a second update with this, as Sakurai tells us we can save up to 3 minutes of Brawl footage (in target test, multiplayer, etc.) as replays! You can also send these videos to your Wii friends! See which one can make a better 3-minute combo video!

Official Discussion: Breaking Tradition and Targets and Big News on Videos!

Stage Builder

Updated on: October 29, 2007

What we know: Brawl now has a stage editor for all those creative minds out there. Use your controller and pick the size, the background, the layout, the music, basically anything that makes a stage! Save to your SD card after use and continue to make more. But we also learned what that fourth icon was in the pictures update...Submit. You can send your pictures and stages through your Wii to Nintendo. Similar to the Everybody Votes Channel, you can only submit once per day, but Nintendo can send back their daily pick from some lucky bas**** and everyone will have a chance to play on their creative stage. Wi-Fi is giving many players opportunities to share their creations, as Stage Builder plainly shows.

Official Discussion: The Stage is Set....or is it?

Classic

Updated on: October 30, 2007

What we know: Classic seems relatively unchanged, down to the points earned and coins won. Stages stay the same for each round, but characters change, bringing in a mix between Smash 64 and Melee. But what are those coins for?

Official Discussion: Classics never go out of style!

Handicap

Updated on: November 14, 2007

What we know: Handicaps return once again and they have an entirely new flavor. Instead of an easier time hitting your opponents off the stage, you start with a higher damage meter. A must for new players against veteran smashers.

Official Discussion: A handi-new feature is revealed on the DOJO!

Training

Updated on: November 20, 2007

What we know: Training mode also makes a return. It seems unchanged from the previous two incarnations.

Official Discussion:

Controls

Updated on: November 26, 2007

What we know: We've known about personalized button configurations since nearly the beginning, but Sakurai decided to go more in depth with the system. The default set-up is shown for all controllers, including motion control for smash attacks on the nunchuk set-up. You can save and test these controls using a specific name. And as Sakurai said he would, you can save it on a Wii-Mote to keep the configuration when you play the game elsewhere.

Official Discussion: A Custom Expierience in Brawl Controls

Widescreen Support

Updated on: November 27, 2007

What we know: Sakurai announced that Brawl, like many Wii games, has Widescreen support. He also explains when it is right for your TV.

Official Discussion: Smash players are gonna need a lot support after hearing this...

Events

Updated on: November 29, 2007

What we know: Event Mode returns from Melee. As before, you go through a predetermined match and gain a high score for each match. Now, you can choose your difficulty setting when choosing the event.

Official Discussion: It's an Event in of itself.

Rotation

Updated on: December 11, 2007

What we know: Although part of the tournament mode in Melee, Rotation has it's own mode in Brawl. It's basically unchanged. The only thing to note is the layout of the multiplayer menu, now called "Group."

Official Discussion: Rotation, Rotation: The Circle of Smash

Options

Updated on: December 12, 2007

What we know: Although we've seen half of these in other updates, it's nice to get the remaining in one whole update. With things like My Music as a nice change, to Sound Test available at the beginning, to tweaking whatever options you want within the game, it's good to see how much effort is being put in the game.

Official Discussion: Just a few Options from the DOJO: More Settings Outlook

Co-op Events

Updated on: December 17, 2007

What we know: Co-op mode seems to be a big thing for Brawl, as evident with this update. You can choose a second player on the Events menu to go into co-op mode. Here, you have less events but they are different from single-player's events. Sakurai also told us Coin Mode would be returning, and you can also play co-op in Target Smash.

Official Discussion: Co-Op and Coins: Events Part 2

Coin Launcher

Updated on: December 27, 2007

What we know: Located within the Trophies and Stickers section of the Vault, this mini-game is used to collect trophies. Use the coins you win in single-player or Spectator as bullets and fire upon the figures. You can also collect Stickers in this game.

Official Discussion: Cash in your Coins, Launch the Loot!

STADIUM: Multi-Man Brawl

Updated on: Januray 8, 2008

What we know: Multi-Man Melee returns, now dubbed Multi-Man Brawl. Instead of Wire Frames, we now have the Fighting Alloy Team, colored Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. You have the exact same modes from Melee, only now you can play co-op on them as well, either online or offline.

Official Discussion: Multi-Man Mayhem

Challenges

Updated on: January 14, 2008

What we know: Similar to a system used in Kirby Air Ride for the Gamecube, Challenges helps you unlock some of the secret stuff you'll find in Brawl. By doing a certain action in the game, one square will be revealed to show you what you unlocked and how you did it. You will also be shown silhouettes of squares next to the one you unlocked, as well as a description of how to unlock it. Also like Kirby Air Ride, you are sometimes given "freebies" in the form of Golden Hammers to break open those that are too hard for you to accomplish. However, some of these squares can't be broken. It is known you can unlock trophies, stickers, and CD's (which can be listened to through this menu), but I think it's safe to assume secret characters can be shown through this menu, probably as one of the squares you can't break.

Official Discussion: Challenge Mode

Masterpieces

Updated on: January 25, 2008

What we know: Another game mode has been revealed, which will let you play trial versions of old games featuring some of the Brawl cast. This is good for those that have never played the older games, but for those of you with them on your Virtual Console or you've played these before, you'll want to sit this out.

Official Discussion:

Vault

Updated on: January 28, 2008

What we know: Vault was shown to showcase many of the features seen in Brawl. Here you can find your trophies and stickers, snapshots, replays, stage builder, all the Virtual Console trials, challenges, and something new. Chronicles lists the various Nintendo games that they've made since the NES days. So Vault is just various modes seperate from the game when you're tired of Brawl.

Official Discussion:

Brawl

Updated on: January 30, 2008

What we know: Basically, it's the setup to start a match for Brawl. The starting roster is shown and how you choose Sheik and which Pokemon you use first is the only big note here. Just choose your character, costume, CP's, handicaps, and other things here.

Master Hand

Updated on: February 25, 2008

What we know: Master Hand returns as the final boss in Classic Mode. His attacks remain the same, as well how to defeat him. Along with the news that Crazy Hand also returns, there is a brief mention of Master Hand appearing in the Subspace Emissary.

Official Discussion:

Character Roll Call

Updated on: march 27, 2008

What we know: At the end of Classic mode (All-Star as well, if you want to get technical) you play a mini-game where you shoot all the characters' portraits in the game, as well as Assist Trophies, Pokemon, some items, and the trophies you've acquired. This is just a small game that can help you get a few coins.

Official Discussion:

What we know: In this world, trophies fight...and something attacks them after someone screwed up. That's about it.

What Is the Subspace Emissary?

Updated on: August 3, 2007

What we know: This is the single player adventure. Characters will have their own stories and burdens to handle while things from another place try to take over. The story is a side-scrolling adventure, and will be quickened by small movies. Oh, and Princess Peach shows up in the movie.

The Subspace Army

Updated on: August 21, 2007

What we know: The evil baddies...they're called Primids. And they're being led by a guy called the Ancient Minister. Anyway, he's gonna bomb places with what is called a Subspace Bomb, and it'll transport that area to Subspace. Also, Petey Pirahna just shot Mario quite a distance and put the Princesses in a cage.

Official Discussion: Subspace Army

Updated on: August 24, 2007
Name: Petey Pirahna

What we know: Petey is a boss, and nothing more. He uses the cages the Princesses are in and tries to take down little Kirby. Strike the cages to release the girls, and reap from the benefits...ok, you just save one and something happens to the other, which we don't know.

What we know: Pit...descends. He sees the trouble and Palutena gives him a bow to go and fight. The end.

Official Discussion: Prayers of Pit

The Enemies from Subspace

Updated on: September 19, 2007

What we know: Enemies won't just be from a character's respective franchise. Subspace has their own types of enemies, and expect to see new ones across every level, varying from small and weak, to big and powerful.

Official Discussion: It Came From Beyond Subspace....

Team

Updated on: October 5, 2007

What we know: Team Co-op! Now you'll be able to grab a buddy and play the single player campaign with him/her! Camera follows Player 1, and so should Player 2. But don't worry, you'll catch up and not lose a stock. Plus it seems teams play a vital role when only one person is playing, making it so you play as different characters throughout the campaign.

Official Discussion: Team! It's Co-op time!

Donkey Kong Makes His Stand

Updated on: October 23, 2007

What we know: DK's banana's have been taken from him by Bowser's minions. Looks like his little buddy Diddy is along for the ride. They'll stop at nothing to get their banana's back!

Official Discussion: Take a Stand for the Important Stuff... Bananas.

Fox's Misfortune

Subspace Emissary Movie

Updated on: December 21, 2007

What we know: It's a brief preview of what the Subspace Emissary will hold. Half of this movie is a rehash of things we've seen already on the Dojo, but it's still nice to see new things within the new Adventure Mode

Official Discussion: More Subspace Teasing: Sakurai Rolls out Another Trailer for SSE

Trophy Stands

Updated on: December 26, 2007

What we know: A special item within the Subspace Emissary allows you to turn your enemies into trophies. Weaken them down, hit them with the item, and take the spoils. Sakurai hints this may be the only way to collect some trophies. You can even nab boss trophies this way. As well as a confirmation of Rayquaza as a boss, Sakurai hints at a "boss mode", so you can just play against the bosses and collect their trophy forms.

Official Discussion: Stand Tall and Proud like the Trophies in Brawl: New sSE Details

Sticker Power-ups

Updated on: January 18, 2007

What we know: First mentioned in the Team update, Stickers are what actually powers up your characters. Before they were just thought to be collectibles. However, each sticker has it's own property. Through the Subspace Emissary, you can use various stickers to power up your character. Most can be used by all, but some can only be used by various characters. However, if you peel one off for a new sticker later or get a game over, you will lose that/half your stickers forever. But, stickers are easy to come by, so you will probably see it again. Plus, you can collect rare stickers by playing stages with a higher difficulty, showing us you can select any stage after you've beaten it.

Official Discussion: Sakurai's Surprise: Sticker Shocker

Enemies and Allies

Updated on: February 8, 2008

What we know: A battle between Meta Knight and Marth before they band together against the Subspace Emissary. Nothing really new for those who watch spoilers, but for those who try to avoid it, Sakurai gives a subtle hint about another character at the end.

Official Discussion:

Updated on: February 27, 2008

What we know: The Subspace Emissary is huge, and you'll probably want to try and get 100% of it complete. With this update, you have four basic methods of reaching that goal. Hidden doors, completing the stage, orange boxes, and character trophies, the last of which very little is revealed about.

With friends, you will have your own name, icon, special messages, and a ranking system. Worldwide, you won't have any of that. Just you and three other people fighting each other. And as an added bonus, you can kick the s*** out of Sandbag while the game is loading.

Spectator

Updated on: November 16, 2007

What we know: You can view random matches through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Bet on who will win and maybe earn some stickers along the way. You can only do this if Spectator mode is turned on. Also, matches will be sent through Nintendo for play data.

Friend List

Updated on: December 3, 2007

What we know: Sakurai decided to help those who didn't know about friend codes. Trade them with another person, then they will be on your list. You can make messages, start a match, or play in a match already made by someone else. The circle above their message tells you how good the connection will be, with blue being the best.

With Anyone/Basic Brawl

Updated on: December 7, 2007

What we know: When you connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, you have the option of choosing With Friends or With Anyone. Since we already know about the With Friends part, Sakurai decided to go into detail about With Anyone, starting with Basic Brawl. First, you choose Basic Brawl, and you'll be taken right away to the character selection screen. You have a limited time to choose your character until it chooses for you. You'll then be taken to the stage selection screen, where all the players will pick their stage based on a lottery, with the stage being picked the most as the stage that will be played on. If everything is equal, I'm guessing the stage is picked randomly out of the stages picked by the players. Now, the item switch is a little vauge. I'm guessing it's picked through the options of Wi-Fi, or it's already made in your regular options, and the lottery is determined randomly OR everyone picks which settings they like, whether it's their own or someone else's. Then you pummel Sandbag as you wait. Now, Sakurai mentions the spoilers of hidden characters. If you play against someone who has a character unlocked you haven't unlocked yourself, the spoiler is gone, and you will know who that character is. But with the internet and us looking at the Dojo or here everyday, it really doesn't matter for most anyway. But if you want to be spoiler free, then most of the characters can be unlocked through The Subspace Emissary.

Share

Updated on: December 28, 2007

What we know: Sakurai announced how sharing will work in this game. If the Smash Service is allowed, you can get snapshots and stuff from your friends, or stages from Nintendo. The stuff from Nintendo won't fill up your memory, but your buddies stuff can, so it may be wise to use an SD card.

15 Second Movie Presentation

Updated on: July 12, 2007

What we know: For the North American region, the release date for Brawl is December 3rd, 2007. Then just the various updates we recieved the few weeks before, plus DK showed up. That's it.

Nintendo Conference Fall 2007 Movie

Updated on: October 10, 2007

What we know: This is what I pulled from the movie. If you fell I missed something, please let me know.

Fall Conference: Main Game-
Another remix of the main theme is present
Peach's Side Special
Metaknight's Side Special in action
Assist Trophy Andross, Mr. Resetti, Lakitu, and Lyn in action
Final Smashes Landmaster and Super Dragon in action
Kyogre, Torchic, Piplup, and Snorlax in Action
Stickers and Trophies in action

Fall Conference: Subspace Emissary
A remix of the Menu 1 from Melee is present
Mario fighting Petey Pirahna (he's huge!!)
Fox and DK playing in some SE levels (barrels included!)
Characters confirmed to have multiple taunts (also shown in Sonic joins the Brawl)
PT in action with his Pokemon
December 3rd is no longer the release date (although the Japanese site lists their release date as January 24, 2008)

Japanese Trailer-
I found something very interesting in the Japanese trailer that wasn't shown in the American trailer. During the Mr. Resetti scene, Link briefly hits the front of the screen, just like you did sometimes in Melee when you were hit upwards. In the Nintendo World Trailer, Kirby did hit Link and Mario upwards, but they didn't fly off in the distance or hit the screen, but instead got KO'ed like they would downwards or to the side. This is confirmation that yes, we will see a return of screen KO's and Star KO's.

Updated on: May 24, 2007
Name: Gooey Bomb
Universe: Super Smash Bros.

What we know: It's gooey...and it's a bomb. It sticks to surfaces, like a motion sensor bomb. Except it also sticks to people. But it can also be passed around by touching another fighter. Yikes, this one will cause hectic battles.

Updated on: May 31, 2007
Name: Cracker Launcher
Universe: Super Smash Bros.

What we know: No, it doesn't launch white people. It fires firecrackers at your opponent. You can tilt it up or down as well.

Updated on: June 14, 2007
Name: Crates and Barrels
Universe: Super Smash Bros.

What we know: Same old standard barrels and crates. Or is it? Sure, they'll still shoot out random items when you throw them, but they'll look different depending on the stage. Oh, and some of them have wheels and will roll away.

Updated on: June 27, 2007
Name: Banana Peel
Universe: Super Smash Bros.

What we know: If you don't know what a banana peel does, then get out more often, cause you're stupid.

Updated on: July 11, 2007
Name: Bumper
Universe: Super Smash Bros.

What we know: Hey, I remember you! You were in that game for the N64. What was it again, Super Smash Bros.? Yes, the bumper returns after a very long wait. Throw it, and people who hit it bounce off of it. Now, it can be thrown in midair and it'll stay in midair.

Updated on: July 31, 2007
Name: Pitfall
Universe: Animal Crossing

What we know: Just like in Animal Crossing, this will cause a pitfall appear where ever you throw it. Any character that falls for it will be stuck in the ground. If you hit a character, they'll pass through floors until they hit the last, non-pass through platform.

Updated on: August 6, 2007
Name: Smoke Ball
Universe: Super Smash Bros.

What we know: You throw it, and smoke covers the field. It just makes everything harder to see. It is pretty to look at, though.

Official Discussion: Smoke ball

Updated on: August 10, 2007
Name: Franklin Badge
Universe: Earthbound/Mother

What we know: It's very small, but it has a cool effect. If you find it, you'll be able to deflect any projectile, like Fox's Reflector, except it's all the time...at least until the badge wears off and falls.

Official Discussion: the Franklin Badge?

Updated on: August 27, 2007
Name: Superspicy Curry
Universe: Kirby

What we know: It's food, but don't expect it to heal you. You'll be set ablaze if you do. But you'll have fire damage added to your attacks, as well as you'll shoot fireballs and you'll be completely surrounded by fire.

Official Discussion: New Update: Superspicy Curry

Updated on: September 17, 2007
Name: Golden Hammer
Universe: Mario

What we know: It's a better hammer, both in attack, effects, and flaws. It's more powerful than the Hammer, and you can float in midair if you mash the button enough. However, instead of having the head fall off, it just squeaks if you get the faulty version.

Official Discussion: Stop: Hammertime

Items from Previous Installments

Updated on: November 6, 2007

What we know: Sakurai seems intent on keeping all the old items in one update instead of numerous updates. Beam Sword, Freezie, Super Mushroom, Fire Flower, Party Ball, and Home-Run Bat appear in this update. What's interesting is an item we've never seen before in the Party Ball picture. It's a Stopwatch, but no one knows what it can do yet.

Official Discussion: Average Name for an Average Update

Updated on: November 20, 2007
Name: Smart Bomb
Universe: Star Fox

What we know: We saw the Smart Bomb at E for All, but it got it's own profile. Throw it to cause a huge explosion that can cover a whole stage, or it may become a dud.

Official Discussion: Smart Bombs are a blast in Brawl!

Updated on: December 19, 2007
Name: Team Healer
Universe: Super Smash Bros.

What we know: Team Healer is a new item that may help or hinder your situation. First to note is this update reveals the return of team mode, and it's three colors: red, blue, and green. The item, when thrown at someone will heal them. The higher the percentage, the more it heals. However, even if it's thrown at an enemy player, it will still heal them, too.

Official Discussion: Looking for a Healer for Team, pst!

Updated on: December 28, 2007
Name: Dragoon
Universe: Kirby

What we know: A new item from the Kirby series arrives, this time from Kirby Air Ride. The Dragoon is unique, in that it requires three parts for the item to work. You may have to fight for it, like the Smash Ball, but in the end, it's all worth it. I do wonder though if the Hydra will also make an appearance.

Official Discussion: Mmmm....It's Mac Time!

Name: Gray Fox
Updated on: November 7, 2007

Official Discussion: Another member of Foxhound cuts right to the point.

Name: Saki Amamiya
Updated on: November 22, 2007
Universe: Sin and Punishment/Super Smash Bros.

What he does: Saki from the once Japanese-exclusive title Sin and Punishment appears as an Assist Trophy. Basically, he shoots or slashes the nearest opponent, using his Cannon Sword.

Official Discussion: It would be a "Sin" to not have him as an assist trophy...

Name: Stafy
Updated on: December 14, 2007
Universe: Legend of Stafy/Super Smash Bros.

What he does: Stafy will fly around and use a spin-attack. However, he is the first confirmed Assist Trophy that can be attacked.

Official Discussion: The Star in Brawl: Stafy Joins as an Assist Trophy

Name: Waluigi
Updated on: December 14, 2007

What he does: Waluigi dashes around and stomps his foes into the ground before either giving the player a powerful kick or a swing from his Tennis Racket.

Official Discussion: A Clone Avoided: Waluigi Joins the Assist Trophies

What she does: Jill uses her Drill and drills across the stage, harming anyone in her path.

Universe: Nintendogs/Super Smash Bros.

What it does: Nintendog will paw at the screen, blocking the view of the fight.

Name: Lakitu
Updated on: October 3, 2007, February 6, 2008
Universe: Mario

What it does: Just like every game he's been in, Lakitu throws Spinies at you. I think having him in his original form makes him more menacing, since he was a pain to defeat.

Name: Hammer Bro.
Updated on: July 2, 2007, February 6, 2008

What it does: Hammer Bro. will throw hammers at your foe.

Official Discussion: The Meowth is Out of the Bag!

Name: Returning Pokemon
Updated on: December 4, 2007

What we know: Along with returning stages and returning items, Sakurai has given us returning Pokemon. Not much to say except now rare Pokemon like Mew or Celebi will drop things from time to time.

Official Discussion: Pokeball update: Familar faces

Name: Bonsly
Updated on: December 10, 2007

What it does: Basically, it walks around until you pick it up. It's heavy, hard to throw, but does major damage. It's more of an item instead of a Pokemon, basically.

Official Discussion: Pokeball update: Bonsly

Name: Manaphy
Updated on: January 22, 2008

What it does: Manaphy is a different Pokemon. It doesn't attack you, but it does switch your body with another fighter on the arena. You may think this is an advantage by just killing your oppenents body by self-destruct, but it counts towards your score.

How to Play

Section: Smash 101

Official Profile: Smash 101

The Basic Rules

Updated on: May 22, 2007

What we know: Smash is Smash, and it isn't straying from the formula we already love and know. Definetely check this if you know nothing on Smash.

You must recover!

Updated on: June 6, 2007

What we know: You must recover! Use your midair jump and Up Special to get back on the ground when knocked down!

Smash Attacks

Updated on: July 5, 2007

What we know: Standard attack is just the attack button. Strong attacks, you also must tilt the control stick. When using Smash attacks, you must tap the control stick quickly. You can also charge the attack by holding the attack button

Four Special Move Types

Updated on: August 28, 2007

What we know: You have four special attacks, all dependent on where the control stick is. Up, down, left/right, or no direction. Use the button along with these directions.

Shielding and Dodging

Updated on: October 4, 2007

What we know: Just like in Smash 64, you can shield yourself and do a rolling dodge. Just like in Melee, you can do a sidestep dodge. Nothing new here.

How to use the Wii Remote

Updated on: October 17, 2007

What we know: This is how you will play Brawl with the Wii-Mote. But this is standard and you can change the layout how you want, but for those going to E for All, you're stuck with this.

Official Discussion: Wii-Mote 101 in Brawl.

Grab and Throw

Updated on: November 7, 2007

What we know: Grab out of a shield (or use the Grab button) to throw your opponent in any direction. Pretty straightforward.

Official Discussion: Smash 101: Throwing

Charged Special Moves

Updated on: November 23, 2007

What we know: Sakurai is giving new players another update for charging your special attacks. Hold the special-move button to charge an attack, or just press it to charge one up and save for later use.

Official Discussion: Lucas? Charrrrge!

What is a Final Smash?

Updated on: May 29, 2007

What we know: This is a character's equivalent to an atomic bomb, or a hammer if you follow Sakurai. Each character weilds their own, unique Final Smash. But you must grab an item known as the Smash Ball to use it.

Official Discussion: Official Final Smash Thread ~pics included~

Meteor Smash

Updated on: February 21, 2008

What we know: It's a basic setup of what a Meteor Smash is, as well as some examples. Not much new to this if you've played Melee, but vital to those who are new to the series.

Official Discussion:

Section: Techniques

Moving and Shooting

Updated on: May 30, 2007

What we know: In Melee, all shooting items could only be show when you're standing still. Not in Brawl. Now we can shoot AND run/jump at the same time! Oh, and the Super Scope reappears in this update.

Standard Combos

Updated on: July 9, 2007

What we know: Just like in Melee, some characters have a repeating combo, where they'll use the same attack over and over. Unlike Melee, you don't have to push the button over and over. Now you can just hold it. Let those thumbs rest.

Footstool Jump

Updated on: July 26, 2007

What we know: Now characters have the ability to bounce of one another. It can be used as another means of recovery, or as a meteor smash.

Tether Recovery

Updated on: August 16, 2007

What we know: This was in Melee, but it probably wasn't called that. Characters with an extendable move will be able to use this to grapple onto a wall. The move will have homing capabilities.

Gliding

Updated on: August 30, 2007

What we know: A new feature to Smash, winged characters can now glide while they are airborne. By tilting the control stick a certain way, you can control their momentum. If struck, these characters won't be able to glide anymore.

Official Discussion: New How To: Gliding

On-Screen Appearances

Updated on: November 2, 2007

What we know: Entrances return! Well, we've seen this update at E for All, but it's nice to see entrances we haven't seen before.

Official Discussion: Enter Entrances!

Three Different Taunts

Updated on: November 13, 2007

What we know: Now characters have three taunts they can use. Why there isn't four, I don't know, but I guess that's how Sakurai works. So now you have three different ways to tell your opponent "You suck", and that's pretty much it.

Official Discussion: Your Ike is a hampster, and your Samus smells of elderberries!

Color Changes

Updated on: November 21, 2007

What we know: Once again, characters have the chance to change how they look. It seems everyone will have six unique costumes. Expect to see the usual green, red, and blue colors for teams and three unqiue costumes, varying from gold to dark.

Official Discussion: Colour me Green with Envy

The Battle for the Smash Ball

Updated on: December 5, 2007

What we know: We've known since E for All how to use a Smash Ball, but Sakurai would like to tell those who don't know. You can't grab it, instead you have to beat the item so you can use it. Set yourself up, but don't get hit by other players, or you might lose it. And for those who are far behind, you can get a "Pity Final Smash." Then again, if you don't want this item, then you can shut it off on the item switch screen.

Official Discussion: Final Smashes aren't so Final: Sakurai goes into detail about the Final Smash

Quick Techniques

Updated on: February 11, 2008

What we know: Trying to get things out of the way, the Dojo has shown us a few of the techniques found within the game. Some we've known about (Pivot Grab), while others we didn't know until now (Eating While Reclining). What I find interesting is the official name for teching, known as Ukemi. Whether or not we'll use that or stay with Teching is up in the air at this point.

Official Discussion:

Smash Taunt

Updated on: March 20, 2008

What we know: This update shows you how to get the secret taunt for Snake, Fox, Falco, and Wolf (although Wolf hasn't been introduced yet). Play on their respective stages, do a down taunt really quickly, and watch the communications between the player and the people from their series.

Name: Battlefield

What we know: It's the same in Melee. Three basic platforms hovering over one giant one. But it's more detailed and set somewhere above a planet, and it's beautiful. It will also change from Day to Night to Day, etc.

Official Discussion: Battlefield

Updated on: June 1, 2007
Name: Delfino Plaza

Official Discussion: Delfino Plaza Discussion

Updated on: June 12, 2007
Name: Yoshi's Island
Universe: Yoshi

What we know:A central platform with one above that tilts side to side. Support Ghosts will occasionly appear on the side. This stage will change seasons, from summer to fall to winter to spring to summer, etc. If this is based of the Wii clock is unknown at this time.

Official Discussion: Official Yoshi's Island

Updated on: June 22, 2007
Name: Lylat Cruise
Universe: Star Fox

What we know: On top of the ship Pleiades, it will fly through space. You will see dogfights, asteroids, etc. before falling into the atmosphere of Planet Corneria. It is unknown if like other Star Fox stages if Arwings will attack you.

Official Discussion: The Lylat Cruise!

Updated on: July 6, 2007
Name: Bridge of Eldin
Universe: Legend of Zelda

What we know: This is a long stage...longer than Final Destination...at least two Final Destinations put together. King Bulbin will come by and run you over. He'll drop bombs which will make the bridge explode and crumble below. But the Twilight will drop it back in place at one point.

Official Discussion: Bridge of Eldin

Updated on: July 13, 2007
Name: Smashville
Universe: Animal Crossing

What we know: It's a very neutral stage. One platform hovering over a bigger one. What's unique is Animal Crossing characters will watch you fight. The time and season is based on your Wii clock. And on Saturdays at 8:00 PM, Totakeke will give a live performance.

Official Discussion: Smashville: Great Stage or Greatest Stage?!?!?!

Updated on: July 23, 2007
Name: Rumble Falls
Universe: Donkey Kong

What we know: Similar to Icicle Mountain in Melee, Rumble Falls will be a scrolling stage. However, it seems it will stay a constant scrolling speed, and in one direction...up! It will scroll upwards, even past the waterfall. What's at the top is unknown at this point.

Official Discussion: Rumble Falls

Updated on: July 25, 2007
Name: Skyworld
Universe: Kid Icarus

What we know: It's a different stage than what we're used to. The layout is different, and the platforms can crumble and become clouds. If hit powerfully enough, you will be sent downwards.

Official Discussion: Skyworld Discussion

Updated on: August 2, 2007
Name: Castle Seige
Universe: Fire Emblem

What we know: You are on top of an unknown Fire Emblem castle being bombarded. At a certain point, the floor will be destroyed, and you'll fight in the main floor. Statues will act as platforms, and they can be destroyed. At another point, that floor will collapse, and you will be sent to the lower levels. What it will be is unknown at this point.

Official Discussion: Castle Seige

Updated on: August 31, 2007
Name: WarioWare
Universe: WarioWare

What we know: It's random, just like the games it's derived from. The basic stage is seen above. But it will change to the same five second microgames seen in WarioWare. You will get rewarded if you complete the task, but the reward is unknown at this point.

Official Discussion: Official Wario Ware (the stage) Discussion

Updated on: September 6, 2007
Name: Pokemon Stadium 2
Universe: Pokemon

What we know: Just like in Melee, Pokemon Stadium will change into four different forms. The main form is seen above, but it will be able to change into Electric, Ground, Flying, and Ice. Ice is a very slippery stage. Ground so far changes the layout. Flying will cause a very aerial based game, as characters will jump higher. Electric is unknown at this point.

Official Discussion: The Official Pokemon Stadium Thread!

Updated on: September 12, 2007
Name: Battleship Halberd
Universe: Kirby

What we know: At first it's set in a hanger with the Halberd in the background. However, you will set off into the air, where the Halberd will fly around in the background. At one point, the stage will be on the Halberd itself, where it will fire beams and attack you with a mechanical arm. The Halberd also plays a crucial part in the Subspace Emissary.

Official Discussion: Halberd Stage Discussion

Updated on: October 2, 2007
Name: Shadow Moses Island
Universe: Metal Gear

What we know: The stage looks very unique. Although small at first and the only ability to KO is upward, you can break the sides to KO to the side. Having searchlights try to spot you is a neat detail, plus it's good to see the "!" make an appearance. Lastly, like Fox and Falco on Corneria or Venom, Snake has the ability to communicate with his team. I'm guessing it's an easter egg we have to find.

Official Discussion: Snake Date: Double Tuesday, The OFFICIAL Shadow Moses Island Discussion

Updated on: October 15, 2007
Name: New Pork City
Universe: Earthbound

What we know: This is a big stage, the biggest so far. This will be a stage for "hit and run" tactics for fast characters, making it annoying for big characters like Bowser or DK. Then again, the Ultimate Chimera can take a bite out of the fast fighters to knock down their stock.

Official Discussion: New pork city! *WARNING, SPOILERS!*, Sakurai hits the City!

Updated on: October 22, 2007
Name: PictoChat
Universe: Nintendo DS

What we know: PictoChat is a feature in the DS where you can send pictures to your buddies via wireless connection...and Sakurai made it a stage. Looks similar to WarioWare in that the stage changes constantly. There are hazards that go along with some of the pictures, mind you. Plus we got a few samples of music to go along with the stage, based on the Wii and DS hardware. The biggest surprise is we got a new icon with this update, naming a new franchise in Smash, just like Smashville did during the summer. Will we get a new character from this, or will it be how I feel about the Animal Crossing franchise, where it gets a few notable items and a stage but no character whatsoever?

Official Discussion: Drawing the line in Smash... with PictoChat!

Updated on: October 31, 2007
Name: The Summit
Universe: Ice Climber

What we know: The Summit is located at the top of Icicle Mountain. At one point in the match, the tip breaks off and slides down into the ocean. There, the stage will sink into the water. Will it return to the top like Castle Seige? And then there's the fish. It's from Balloon Fight from what we've heard. What could that mean?

Official Discussion: Popo and Nana get a new stage and it doesn't suck this time!, Official NEW Ice Climbers stage - The Summit

Updated on: November 9, 2007
Name: Norfair
Universe: Metroid

What we know: We've seen Norfair in the E for All videos, and it's exactly the same as what we've seen already. Lava rises as usual, but it also flows from the side and from behind. Will we ever get a Metroid stage without hazards?

Official Discussion: Offical "Norfair" Discussion, Things are heating up in Norfair!

Updated on: November 30, 2007
Name: Melee Stages
Universe: Various

Zelda II: Adventure of Link: Great Temple/Temple

Composition Supervisor: Akito Nakatsuka
Arrangement Supervisor: Shogo Sakai

What we know: Similar in Melee where stages from the 64 game appeared, Melee stages will also appear in Brawl. Although we've only seen Hyrule Temple making a return, expect many more to come, too. Also, the music selection will stay the same while including new peices to each stage.

Official Discussion: Sakurai Sets the Stage Again: Melee Stages Return to Brawl

Updated on: December 13, 2007
Name: Mario Circuit
Universe: Mario

What we know: We've seen Mario Circuit all the way back in November of 2006, and now the update has come. You fight at the junction of the figure-8 track. Shy Guys will ride in from behind or to the side as a hazard, but you can destory their karts with a well-timed attack.

Official Discussion: Revved up for Brawl?, Official Mario Circuit Thread

Updated on: December 18, 2007
Name: Frigate Orpheon
Universe: Metroid

What we know: Frigate Orpheon is the second stage from the Metroid series, this time from the Metroid Prime sub-series. It's a basic level while the Parasite Queen watches you, but a siren will go off, telling you the stage will rotate 180 degrees to another set of platforms, and vice versa.

Official Discussion: Frigate Orpheon Discussion, Sakurai Primes a New Stage: Frigate Orpheon Revealed

Melee Stages: Part 2

Updated on: Janurary 7, 2008
Names: Yoshi's Island, Corneria, Onett, Brinstar, Rainbow Ride
Universe: Yoshi, Star Fox, Mother/Earthbound, Metroid, Mario

What we know: After a week long hiatus, Sakurai decided to show more stages from the Melee era that will be returning to Brawl. Yoshi's Island, Corneria, Onett, Brinstar, and Rainbow Ride are some of the few choice stages that will be returning.

Official Discussion: This Update was Staged by Melee

Updated on: January 15, 2007
Name: Distant Planet
Universe: Pikmin

What we know: The Pikmin stage is based off of the planet Olimar lands on, dubbed the Distant Planet. The stage is made of vines and is very bouncy. There is also a slope next to it, where storms can cause it to be very slippery. Elements from the Pikmin series, such as Pellets and Onions giving you items to Bulborbs eating you, maybe potentially giving you a KO, also appear on the stage.

Official Discussion: The Pikmin Distant Planet Stage Discussion Thread, Distant Planet: New Pikmin Stage

Updated on: January 23, 2008
Name: Mushroomy Kingdom
Universe: Mario

What we know: Mushroomy Kingdom is quite a new take on a retro stage. It's basically a scrolling level either taking place on World 1-1 or World 1-2 of Super Mario Bros. It's a slow scroll, so you can take the time to admire the ruins.

Official Discussion: Mushroomy Kingdom, Mushroomy Kingdom Unveiled

Updated on: February 4, 2008
Name: Port Town Aero Dive
Universe: F-Zero

What we know: Just like Mute City in Melee, Port Town Aero Dive is a stage where you'll be swept around a track from F-Zero GX/AX and stop at many points in the stage. There, the layout will be different, and you'll have to dodge the F-Zero racers as they drive by.

Official Discussion: New F-Zero Stage

Updated on: February 5, 2008
Name: Final Destination
Universe: Super Smash Bros.

What we know: Final Destination returns for the third time, second time as a playable stage. It's flat...and that's it. But you can admire the beautiful backgrounds while you're fighting.

Official Discussion: The Official Final Destination Thread

Updated on: February 12, 2008
Name: Mario Bros.
Universe: Mario

What we know: Taking it from the retro side of things, the Mario Bros. stage recreates the Mario Bros. arcade game to perfect detail. It will be hard to knock someone up for a KO, so they suggest you rely on the creatures that appear throughout the stage.

Official Discussion: Classic Mario Bros. stage confirmed

Updated on: February 14, 2008
Name: Green Hill Zone
Universe: Sonic the Hedgehog

What we know: Green Hill Zone is obviously from the Sonic series. It's a basic stage that curves in the middle and also has destructible terrain. The background stays true to the first level, and even Tails, Knuckles, and Silver appear in the infamous "Loop" from time to time.

Official Discussion: Green hill zone discussion!

Updated on: February 18, 2008
Name: Luigi's Mansion
Universe: Mario

What we know: Luigi's Mansion appears as a playable stage. It's a three-story stage, where the platforms are held up by pillars. If the pillar breaks, that part of the mansion will crumble down. If all four are broken, the mansion will be gone. However, it will reappear after an amount of time.

Official Discussion: Luigi's Mansion Confirmed

Updated on: February 29, 2008
Name: Spear Pillar
Universe: Pokemon

What we know: Spear Pillar is the other new Pokemon stage, hailing from Diamond and Pearl. The legendary Pokemon Dialga and Palkia will appear and cause damage on the stage, such as slowing down time, firing beams at you, are destroying parts of the stage. Other legendary Pokemon also appear, either as a brief cameo, or cause other hazards on the stage.

Official Discussion: Spear Pillar Secret Pokémon + Effects on Stage & Music!

Updated on: March 4, 2008
Name: 75m
Universe: Donkey Kong

What we know: 75m recreates the exact same stage from the original DK arcade game. Everything from the platforms, to the collectibles, and even to the hazards. We were also informed the original game can also be played in the Masterpeices collection.

Official Discussion: Arcade Donkey Kong stage

Updated on: March 11, 2008
Name: Flat Zone 2
Universe: Game & Watch

What we know: Flat Zone 2 is Mr. Game & Watch's stage. It changes scenery based upon old games in the Game & Watch series. The changes are Fire, Oil Panic, Lion, and Chef. Plus, the music for this stage was also included in a separate update.

Official Discussion: Flat Zone 2, they got it right!

Names: Jungle Japes, Green Greens, Pokemon Stadium, Big Blue
Universes: DK, Kirby, Pokemon, F-Zero

it's a way to link this thread with every thread in the brawl rooms. for characters, stages, and items. plus it's a central hub to learn what we got and provide info for EVERY update, even the ones before the dojo section was made

Some thoughts

-You might want to include a link to the Dojo website
-You also might want to include the date, if you aren't already planning on doing that.

And a question...

Wouldn't a page that held multiple updates be stretched out to an extreme? One would think that it would be more efficient to simply list the links...

thanks. well, it's almost done. i've got everything...except the characters. if you want to contribute a profile, just give me the official pic on the Dojo, when they were updated, the name, the universe (the last three in a cool color to rep the character), then a brief explanation of the character and anything new on them, then lastly any threads that discuss the character, including the main one in the character discussion room and any of the updates in the dojo room.

i'll be working on other characters as well

If it wasn't 1AM here i would do something for you... but it it.

Are you also going to have a "Rumor central" part or is it only confirmed things.

(And if you don't already you should link the characters and stages name to their dojo page).

Edit: NVM checked the first page again -.-

i was sort of expecting something like this for PT, just a combo of all three. it's cool, but i'm not too excited about PT anyway (i'll play as him cause i love the original pokemon more than the later versions, but i don't expect to play him often)

cool, sticky material. awesome. anyway, just to get this out, i'm going on vacation next wednesday, so i might not be able to update for a few days unless i can access a computer. so this is just so people won't get alarmed when it's not updated

anyway today...i like tourney mode. it was something i frequently used in melee, and it's cool to see it return with new features

whatev, i'm just used to it being known as "dreamland"

nice job though.

this week was probably just a bunch of crap to make up for snakes awesomeness. though i was expecting at least 1 character... and 2 final smashes don't make up for it.

it did...almost a full week...

that's a lie. it did take a long time, but i started it monday and finished it yesterday.

Snakes awesome ness? don't you mean Character-we-already-knew-about ness? I mean C.Falcon.
what do you mean? Snake alone makes up for this week, let alone Online.

but that's what seems to happen. we have a great week, then a crappy week. then a somewhat mediocre week, then a good week, then another great week.

or Sakurai likes playing with us. i think it's the latter

I seem to have missed a few words between "I mean" and "C.Falcon"... cant remember which though XS.

But all we had the past few weeks are old characters a few games modes (Which were usually the highlight of the week) and a bunch of trophies / FS's.

If only we knew after the Diddy / SE week that all we would get is mediocre - crap.

Well, at least with the Ice Climbers being announced, it opened up a door to other characters previously thought of having little to no chance.

I've never noticed this thread before.. :ohwell:

Anyway, what is it with people thinking Sakurai only has a set number of characters he wants to include?

If he wants to, he can have Ness AND Lucas. Maybe even Claus too.

Infact, I highly doubt he had a set number of characters planned. He just put in all the ones he could, so we're bound to have a big roster.

I think he's just yanking our chain -- giving us junk we already knew he'd keep in, giving us a few "Meh" updates every now and again.

Diddy's Final Smash? Golden Hammer? Piplup? Tournament mode?

The latest thing of interest has been Snake's stuff, preceded by Ice Climbers confirmation. I don't like that spacing, so far.

Next, he's gonna confirm Trophy Lottery or something stupid.

Gotta take the good with the bad. Unfortunately we can't expect everything good at once, or even before the game comes out. My guess is that he's going to save the good stuff for after the games release so we can find most of it ourselves (or for some of you who will run to gamefaqs to get it)
