I know that clone hate isn't too bad anymore, but I thought I'd post this anyway...
So, clones are terrible right, a waste of space? So I suppose you would rather have one extra moveset instead of Ganondorf, Roy, Falco, Young Link, Dr.Mario and Pichu?
Do you know how easy it is to make a clone character? It takes a fraction of the time than it does to make a totally new character from scrap. And when done correctly the character can still play much differently from the original without being far worse/better. Falco, Ganondorf and Young Link are the best examples of that.
Why wouldn't you want an extra sword character, simply at the cost of copying Ike's moves? Or another Star Fox character copying Foxes moves? And who's to say that they would copy every move? They may have a different B attack or two, they may lack a rapid A-attack in exchange for a short combination A-attack. It's still an incredibly simple character to make.
And are clones bad in other fighting games? Could you play Street Fighter without Ken or Akuma, just Ryu?
Hopefully more helpful than controversial.
