Not every PC will have a role in the Subspace

As Sakurai said himself...

You can earn most characters by playing through Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary. For those of you who look forward to those encounters, I recommend you clear this mode before playing Basic Brawl.
In other words, some unlockables will not play a roll in the Subspace. How can you have a character you haven't unlocked yet and you don't do it through the Subspace?

The way I figure it is the characters that will be unlockable via other methods will be the ones with traditional unlocking, like Luigi, Jiggs, and maybe even C Falcon. ((even though you did unlock Luigi in adventure mode in melee..)). On one hand, I want to see some characters unlockable in their tranditional ways, but on the other, Subspace would feel incomplete without some of these characters being in it. Maybe you can't continue in the Subspace (like event modes in melee) without unlocking some characters another way?

All I know is Sakurai made this game way too diverse to unlock all the characters in only one mode, The Subspace. But the question becomes did he put enough in this mode to make it feel complete? What's your take?

no your wrong child. Its says not every charachter will be unlocked thru the subspace emmisary. it never says anything about appearing, for all we know that quote could be talking about the starters which arent unlocked thru the subspace emmisary.

I think that all character will have a role, and to fully complete the SSE, you will need to beat a story arc after you have un-locked every characters (or so you think). Then, aftre completing that, you un-lock the Ancient Minister.

lol, i just thought of this, it'd be hillarious if you had to unlock captain falcon by beating subspace in like, 7 hours

"darn, 7 hours and 4 mins, guess i gotta try again"

I think that getting through the storyline is like Event Mode in Melee. You need some characters unlocked before going to that level. As for the ones unlockable in SSE, I think that you may have to clear earlier levels under specific conditions to unlock them. Then, they show up eventually in the SSE storyline.

You do know SSE has multiple paths, right? It's quite possible that some potential paths will only be available if you have the character necessary for the path.

You know how Metal Luigi only appears when you've unlocked Luigi? Yeah. It'll be like that.

Either that, or they may do it similar to Classic mode. The characters you haven't unlocked yet, simply don't show up in SSE until you unlock them. You can still play through the mode, there are just some areas/stages/side-characters that you might not get until you have unlocked them first.

I really don't think that Sakurai meant for that statement to be interpreted this way.

Stages and plot points with those characters probably won't appear until you've unlocked them.

But the TC is right, it's entirely possible that some characters won't be making an appearance in the SSE.

Guess we'll have to wait until the 24th.

Perhaps you can start from differen't points in the SSE. Like starting of with Pit in the beginning. And once unlocked, starting with Sonic at the beginning.

No, it's probably just villians... Here's an idea/scenario...
You go through some kind of mission to stop Dedede, you save (insert random possible newcomer here, in this case I'll use Captain Olimar), you then get an encounter... then OMGZ YOU HAVE HIM... now you can play as him :|

in SSB you fight against the mario bros. even if you haven't unlocked luigi.

So, you're wrong
but you can't play as luigi until you unlock him. and my impression is that you can play as a character in the subspace once you fight them in the subspace. making your point obsolete.

So, you're wrong

Ya like they don't trust you at first, and so you have to fight
That doesn't make sense with a lot of Nintendo characters.

Even Snake, contrary to rumor, doesn't attack people just based on lack of trust. But don't get me started on Snake characterization >_>
