NorCal Melee Power Rankings

Panelists: Dr. Z (HyugaRicdeau), Alan, SideFX, tarheeljks, and gaR

Rankings as of June 22nd, 2015:

The basic activity criterion the panel uses for determining activity/rankability is participation in, on average, 1 tournament every 4 weeks for the ranking period, and continued residency and intent to continue attending tournaments in Norcal. Satisfying this guarantees being considered as "active." Not satisfying it does not necessarily guarantee being "inactive" however - exceptions may be made depending on specific circumstances. In the case of this period, 3 tournaments were required to be considered active. For a tournament to count towards the quota, it must have a minimum of 3 ranked players and 24 total in attendance, or the unanimous acceptance of the panel. The tournament you held with the local noobs in your dorm doesn't count.

Good quotes Karthik, also to anyone who feels they were "cheated out of being on the list," you were not, we spent alot of time into these, if you aren't on here and want to be, then get out there and prove yourself, but remember, no johnzzz

The points go in descending order 1st place 25 points, 2nd place 24 points, etc...The panelists all made lists of their top 25 players, compiled them and points, tallied points, and there it is.

it seems all you have to do to get points is to go to tournaments and not suck. Looking forward to playing a lot of these guys at NCT2!

nintendoking seems sad.

good list :)

funny thing, though, it looks like the bottom 15 are all interchangeable lol. =\ they all seem to be the same skill level. looks like it was tournament results that got them to where they are.

i must say i disagree with this....it VERY VERY much looks like points from placings at NCB events which are located at the bottom of norcal and miss out on lots of northerer norcal smashers...i cant say this list is a very good representation of norcal smash players...but if its a representation of the average of the ranks at every NCB event then its pretty close to being right

simna, those arent what people get at the biweeklies. you dont see me getting 24th now do you. i usually get around 13th or something now

and with that logic i should be up higher right? no. and if you disagree with it.. ( as do i, not my spot per say but other peoples spots) only thing to do is to go to the NCB's or local tournies, or TGE's and prove yourself there. thats all. and it wasnt only the NCB's that were incorperated into the standings. i believe there were alot more other factors that played into the ranks.. and placed people where they are.

Honestly I have very rarely seen quite a few of these people at the NCB tournaments. It isn't points from NCB either cuz I would not be 11th, considering I consistently place top 10. Also for example, KFC and Dark Mike would not be on there, as a few other people who don't show up to the biweeklies any more. There are many factors put into this, if you would like to know you can ask any one of us. And San Jose isn't really the bottom of Norcal, Salinas is like the bottom of Norcal:p

if they were points from NCB I shouldn't be where I am now...I haven't gotten 5th in a while.........

I placed like...9th when Sheridan & DSF knocked me out.

Either than that it was always above 5th.

This list can give motivation to those semi-active guys who need something to aim for. And last, just because you can beat someone on the list AND you aren't on the list, doesn't mean you should be on the list. I don't even believe we used that factor to determine who goes where.

Yeah, this list was based on skill, tournament results (NCBs, TGEs, etc) as well as ability to perform technically and in terms of mindgames. If this was based on NCB-results only, Karthik would be on the list. But he's not that good. ;)

Yes, that's the reason alot of players such as Zeldafreak and The SNKE didn't make it. Soon, they shall rise.

well, first off, i'm very glad that a norcal power rankings showed up. i was waiting for something like this. time to get me on the list. the only problem is it's harder for us that are in the northern area of norcal, like teamscape and my crew, to get up there. i was placing relatively well at TGE's, but never managed to be right at the top. and now, since i have transportation issues, i dont think we'll be able to make the TGE's anytime soon. NCB's aren't an option; too far for other people's transportation. if my car gets fixed, we'll see. however, i might be able to make it easier for those who live up here in sac. if i held my own set of biweeklies here in sac and posted the results, and some decent smashers showed up (ender, sinma, kevmoney, nintendoking, etc.) then maybe we could get a piece of this list? my last tournament didn't end up happening because of some technical issues, but if i do end up getting serious about my biweeklies then i would like the smashers that show up to it get in on the power rankings. if the board members of the power ranking could let me know about this via PM or on here, then i'd appreciate it, thanks in advance.

The first NorCal Smash Power Rankings *update* will come a week or so after NCT2 Red. I wish everyone the best of luck in their ventures. Make sure you perform well between until then and after that as well. Be dangerous, no johns.

"Sorry, but there are to be no state/regional power ranking threads. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation." - Omnigamer, after locking the SoCal rankings.
I find regional rankings to be quite useful to see who the powerhouses of each region are. After all, the original rankings are just opinions anyways. I don't see why that can exists and why regional ranking threads can't exist. I don't understand this.

After all, we spent a lot of time creating these rankings.

Please don't lock this, Omni.

Keep playing in tournaments and proving yourself. Go to NCBs and TGEs. Tath way you'll be better known to NorCal and take credit for your skill. If you dont, you still might notbe on there, even if youre better than some of them.

If you notice, SKYPAL are sometimes omitted from the power rankings simply because they dont travel OoS much, which gives tem less opportunity to show how well they stand up to the other pros.

the problem with this is that it's very hard for us in sacramento to make it to any of the biweeklies. i mean modesto alone is 85 miles or so just there, and another 85 miles back. thats a hell of a drive on us. if you're giving me a "be there or else you don't get posted" kind of statement, i guess i can understand that. i was just hoping that we could make things a little easier on us living here in sac.

Like I said before, "I find regional rankings to be quite useful to see who the powerhouses of each region are." I don't see why threads have relevance to the specific forums need to locked. Did it really become a flame war? I wasn't keeping up. I think all the smashers should be allowed to debate on the rankings, though keep the remarks intelligent.

Well, let's see what happens.
