This mindset isn't needed when the West was responsible for Ridley getting in . Heck Japan, who really wasn't interested in him, compared his popularity in the West to Captain America. And that's not even including Dark Samus. Really, after Ridley and Dark Samus, I don't see why Japan can't be thrown a bone.
Also, the whole "Catch on in the West" deal isn't required when Smash doesn't care overall about Worldwide popularity when Marth and Roy exist and played a part in growing interest for Fire Emblem in the West, as well as Lucas and the two former. "Give Us Mother 3"

I'm just saying it's tacky on the part of SE which rubs me the wrong way a bit. Of course that's only a minor reason for why I don't want the character/series.

I don't see why Nintendo would be eager to go for DQ as I mentioned before. It doesn't even make sense to me from a business standpoint. I mean for SE it makes all the sense in the world but not so much on Nintendo's part.

First Party: Skull Kid. Just Skull Kid.

Third Party: A2 from Nier or Neku from TWEWY.

None of these characters have any chance for various reasons, but goddamn they'd make me over the moon moreso than any other.

I've literally been pushing him for 15 years, and now it's an impossibility.

For a lot of people, their big break into the JRPG genre was FF7, but for me, it was SMT3. Its influenced me so much, and tells such a unique story that I still haven't seen anything that comes close to it. I honestly wish they'd re-release an HD version of it or even acknowledge the franchise more, but fat chance of that happening.

Of course I doubt anybody from the West could see why Dragon Quest is so damn popular in the East that practically everybody and their mother references. Almost every anime I've watched has had at least one reference to Dragon Quest one way or another and whenever they don't mention Dragon quest, but do an RPG reference, their point of reference directly leads to Dragon Quest. They have their own version of Monty Python and the Holy Grail that practically parodies Dragon Quest.
Even a random name like Bianca has people point to Dragon Quest, to the Dragon Quest V Protagonist's Childhood friend and love interest that was the Love over Money choice. When something parodies an RPG and it goes to the villain, the villain is often referred to as the ------ Master, due to the first DQ villain, Dragon Master.
Considering Nintendo's home country of Japan and how popular and influential Dragon Quest is in Japan, it makes quite alot of sense for Nintendo. And not just that, Dragon Quest AKA Dragon Warrior originated on the NES in 1986. All of it's main titles from One to Ten have been on a Nintendo System, with:
-Dragon Quest 1-3 on NES, Gameboy, and SNES for 3
-Dragon Quest 4-6 on SNES and DS
-Dragon Quest 7 and 8 on 3DS
-Dragon Quest 9 on DS
-Dragon Quest 10 on Wii AND Wii U
-Dragon Quest 11 coming to Switch

And it's Spin-offs:
-Dragon Quest Monsters on Nintendo Handheld systems, including Monsters Joker and Joker 2
-Dragon Quest Rocket Slime on Gameboy Advance, DS and 3DS
-Dragon Quest Swords on Wii

...IDK, I'm just kind of skeptical. And a bit disappointed if it is what they went with. But apparently rumors about that fighting game have been flying around for a while and there are pleeeenty of leaks in this fandom that ride on the coattails of other leaks and have people blindly buy into them, so I'm gonna take the current speculation with a block of salt.

I think it's Erdrick sure but I don't believe the leak in the slightest. Really? Mementos as a stage for Joker? Real shocker there.

Jack Frost appears in his moveset somehow? Again, REAL shocker there. I legit called both of these things after Joker's announcement, as I'm sure many others also did.

The only big claims the dude makes is in the game releases, and the Granblue fighting game has been rumored for as far back as October or so.

Really there's no credibility here to pin this to.

The stinginess of Square Enix, while I won't 100% rule them out, is REALLY hurting my belief they have more for Smash's DLC.

And despite the high demand for Sora, anything from Kingdom Hearts happening is totally dead in my book. If we're having problems with Squenix now, then them plus Disney together sounds like an absolute nightmare to negotiate with.

I've been reading ResetERA to see what people think and the amount of other Dovahkiin supporters I could count on one hand even post-Joker.

I don't check GameFAQs anymore since I crossed a moral line there a few years back and I tend to instinctively avoid the speculation threads here, I just didn't have any reason to think any other community would be less skeptical since the Smash community tends to be fairly consistent. And the fact that your post drips of utter skepticism on the matter doesn't really do a lot to convince me people think otherwise either.

The idea of a Dragon Quest character always kind of bored me to the point that the franchise has no distinctive traits in my mind outside of having Dragon Ball's artist and a Nazi for a composer, and considering all the Goku spam in this fandom neither of those details give me positive feelings.

Ironically on ResetERA where I've been checking it seems like those are among the top characters that people seem to think are happening for some reason.

Which is. . .I don't know? I don't see it.

But then I really, really don't see Banjo and Kazooie happening either and they've consistently topped requests since long before any kind of third party parade was even plausible.
