Eh, it's hard for me to take genwunners that seriously because the original gameboy games are really, really dated. It'd be as if an FE told you that FE1 is the only real Fire Emblem, and every other Fire Emblem shouldn't exist. Except we don't really have that because no one in the rest has any nostalgia for the original, so no one's nostalgia blinded to the fact that it has clear flaws.

Not to say that there's no FE fans that think that the older games are better. It's just that there's more of a reasonable case to be argued rather than pure nostalgia blindness.

I'd consider sects from several different fandoms to essentially be different flavors of Genwunner due to their behavior, but I'm assuming you're referring to the Pokemon ones and yep they're still going on about how all Pokemon past the original 151 are ugly and terrible to this day.

I'm not gonna say recent gens don't have their charm and merits but **** you guys being a Pokemon fan from 98-01 was the best **** ever. Literally it was everywhere and everyone cared and it was inescapable and all-encompassing. People cared about the show, people cared about the games, people cared about the cards, people cared about all the stupid-ass merchandise, the movies were coming to theatres and it was just in the public zeitgeist.

95% of the kids my age had a shared interest, it was amazing. You would pretend to be Ash or Misty, or if you were a *******, Gary, and play with your toys and your imagination (back when we had those) and you would rush out to spend your parents money on some dumb figure of Dewgong because you were SEVEN.

These glasses don't come any more rose-tinted than this, but to have something you were obsessed with permeate the culture at large for like a half-decade was something special. It's not even so much about the actual mons, those just hold a sentimental place more than an objective one. That's why Nintendo can milk them so successfully.

Old FE fans aren't exactly in the same boat here, but really it all comes down to history, experience, and personal meaning.

Fwiw I would also assume it was great to be a Beatles fan in the 60s.

I'll give Hypno and it's prevo Drowzee one thing, it's got a more obscure mythological origin outside of Japan than most Pokemon and that's legitimately interesting. Yo-Kai Watch has something based off of the same thing, but outside of that I really don't think the dream eating tapir concept caught on that much even in comparison to other yokai.

There's probably perfectly learned people that don't even know what a tapir is.

I understand that the major reason why pokemon became so popular in the first place is because of the social culture around it. It's just weird how some genwunners though act as if they were better as games though.They don't really hold up all that well at all. At most I just go back at it because the sprites are so weird that they have their own appeal, same could be said gameplay.

Unlike when people are comparing the older FE games to the 3DS ones as the ones they do compare are actually comparable and there's actual criticisms about the game themselves other than just "Why do they have new characters? Just keep the older ones".

If that's the only thing you guys were talking about I apologize, but I've seen generations debated from many perspectives. Some are the games, some are the mons, some is just everything to do with Pokemon during that generation.

But no, in Gen 1 the gameplay was very rudimentary for what it would become, the sprites were weird and Kanto was so-so. Even though I haven't played them for a long long time I stand by the Gen II games being amazing because of double the regions and the gym leaders, and breeding was cool too, but I'm not gonna pretend they're better than HeartGold or SoulSilver. And really that's not even being a genwunner, cuz it's not Gen 1...

But for their time the gen 1 games were amazing, that I remain adamant about. With time having passed you can see their flaws and shortcomings much easier, but there's a lot of room to make your series so robust when you start with such successful groundwork.

I think, from a gameplay or feature perspective, you could find criticism in any game, new or old, first in a series or fifteenth.

Well; I have hatched an additional 50 eggs to bring up my total of 410 hatching attempts for a Shiny Larvesta with no luck. I farmed for another 90 eggs and plan on hatching all of them; If I don't get it after reaching the 500 mark, I may end up stopping for real.

Either way, I decided to put 5 shinies that I got from ORAS into my party while I was collecting the eggs to see if that ends up changing my luck in any form. It's just for fun, but you never know.

EDIT: Hatched an additional 15 just now for a total of 425. Will hatch the rest tomorrow (or later today depending on timezones for others).

My theory is that it becomes such an important part of their nostalgia that they can't stand the idea of the series moving on. The game they grew up with becomes a Precious Childhood Memory that is Not Allowed to Change.

And when they gain too much sway in a fandom, their adamance on keeping everything the same can lead to the franchise stagnating and selling poorly everywhere outside their bubble. Case in point: Star Fox.
