When Ultra Beasts were confirmed catchable, it made me kind of sad. I was really hoping for enemies that you actually need to destroy, or at least defeat, rather then being Pokémon you can later catch. It makes the whole title, "Ultra Beast" a questionable title.
So I developed my own type of boss enemy for my Pokémon game. They are tentatively called Artificial Intelligence Monsters, or AImon. An AImon is an artificial Pokémon created by Team Void- the enemy of the game. They are not Pokémon, and as such cannot be caught, nor does the PokeDex identify them. They have one Type, called the AI-Type, which beats ALL types, and is IMMUNE to all types... Except certain Grass/Fire/Water Pokémon. They know a varity of attacks. Unlike Mewtwo and Genesect, these biological creatures were created from the ground up, thus hold no DNA resemblance to any Pokémon. They are emotionless, and like drones, they follow orders without question.
As I mentioned, only certain Grass/Fire/Water Pokémon can defeat them. Obviously I'm speaking of the Starter Pokémon. And not just the region's starter Pokémon, but I'll get to that later. Anyways, with the assistance of the special machine called the (tentative) Ultimate Awakening Device, Starter Pokémon sent out with it come out super powerful- powerful enough to defeat an AImon. But the trainer's heart fuses with the Starter, and as such, they both experience the pain of battle. You cannot use the UAD anywhere else except in these battles.
The battle mechanics change completely from here. A box, called an Arena, appears and a Poke Ball colored Green (Grass), Red (Fire), or Blue (Water) appears in the middle. Above the box is the AImon. In turn base style, the player can Fight, Act, Charm, or Extreme Attack. In short, it can FACE the AImon.
Fight brings up an Elemental eye and a reticle appears, and the AImon begins to move. If you hit the AImon when the reticle is close, you'll deal damage. If you hit them when the reticle is over their "Sweet Spot", it'll deal more damage, resulting in a Critical.
Act allows you to do things like Heal, Lower Stats, Raise Stats, and gain Critical Chance, which makes your reticle bigger.
Charm allows you to attempt to persuade the AImon to stop fighting. As you continue to fight it, the AImon will begin to see reason, and gain its own conscience- which is part of the UAD's function. You'll need to weaken it though. To note; you can kill it, but this can change the storyline.
Extreme Attack is your Ultimate attack- Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn, or Hydro Cannon. These deals massive damage if they hit, and if they crit, they paralyze the AImon for their next turn, effectively giving you an additional turn.
When the AImon's turn begins, it'll attack through animations. Move the prementioned Poke Ball icon around and dodge the attacks. If you get hit, you'll take damage. Dodge every hit, and you'll gain Confidence. Confidence raises all stats on your next turn. If you lose all HP, the battle is over, and you'll restart back where you last saved (Yes, I made that a mechanic. Its because you both actually died. Save often, punk).
In these battles, its either Destroy or Befriend. Each decision affects the storyline. I'm still working out those details.
Anyways that's all I got for now. I'll update with further details in the future.
