Now that's a Big Bruh Moment right there. Who prices these things?!
I. Have. No. Clue.

It's like an entire team or department within Nintendo (and Bandai-Namco, they helped develop MKT) didn't get the memo that Nintendo had requested CyGames to rein in the microtransactions.

Simple lack of communications most likely, and severe overestimation of how much people are willing to pay in one go (and without alternative pay amounts).

Why do people allow this to continue?
Thing is, the $40 Diddy Pack was memetic for all the wrong reasons - the Cheaper than Diddy twitter account was created as a reaction to this. And it's a main reason why MKT underperformed severely. Dungeon Keeper iOS and Mega Man X iOS are two other infamous examples of heavy-handed monetization gone wrong.

Microtransactions, especially mobile ones, are a contentious topic. The article I quoted notes that "Only 4% of Candy Crush players, for example, spend on the game. And 10% of this 4% (or 0.4% of users) generate 50% of revenue." The 0.4 % are commonly referred to as "whales" and are the portion that a lot of mobile games aim towards.

Candy Crush, IIRC, doesn't do just $40 packs. Much smaller increments (like $1 / $5 packs) + larger but more expensive bundles are common. It's intentional, but not always meant to "gate" and frustrate players until they spend (although that's common too). Paying is also a shortcut or a way for a player to get the best characters, cards or just the best-looking costumes. Then there's the lootbox issue, which adds to the shenaningas but is another issue entirely.

From an Average Joe / Jane perspective, spending $5 on a mobile game is pocket change. Even if (s)he winds up repeating it.

From the developer's perspective, the mobile industry is incredibly cutthroat. Again, there are like 1 million+ F2P games just waiting for the F2P money if Say Game X doesn't go F2P (which is what happened to Super Mario Run). Which is a main reason why so many mobile games are F2P and use this model.

As for what to expect for the Partner's Showcase... MH feels a little given, but I can't be 100 % sure on that. We're likely to see some low-profile games, but I don't think one game will be as badly recieved as WWE Battlegrounds. And yes, I have my hat and salt on standby if I'm indeed wrong. At least one multiplayer focused port (a la Rogue Company / World of Tanks) feels rather likely IMHO.

I can help explain this as I've been paying attention to the way the Smash Bros News Site works. The website you should be using is https://www-aaaba-lp1-hac.cdn.nintendo.net/en-GB/index.html. Clicking on any event should show you more information along with a bigger version of the Event's image. All of these images are labeled with the Event's ID. For example, the latest tournament image is labeled as 4030_news.jpg as shown here https://www-aaaba-lp1-hac.cdn.nintendo.net/en-GB/ce190d0f/img/4030_news.jpg.

I've actually learnt a couple of things by analyzing the way Nintendo has been doing these events. Those are:

-They don't skip Events very much unless they have an actual reason for doing so. For example, Spirit Event #1007 was a Metroid Event that was skipped. Following the pattern of other Events it would have been released on January 25, but that was the exact day of the Metroid Prime 4 delay announcement. Instead Spirit Event #1008 took its place for obvious reasons and the Metroid Event didn't happen until July.

-These Events are probably planned at least three months in advance. Proof of this can be seen with the way the LABO Event was handled. It's labeled as Spirit Event #1021. It seems like they always planned to release it a week after the one-year anniversary of LABO, but because they had skipped the Metroid Event and an unknown Event #1019, they had to push forward events #1022 and #1023, so that the LABO event could coincide with the schedule they had originally set.

-Min Min was definitely delayed. All of the news items relating to her (News Items #2081 to #2088) happened after the ones labeled #2088 (An offer for Nintendo Switch owners) and #2089 (The 8th Smash Art Dojo results). This isn't surprising at all considering the COVID situation right now.

I actually have this crazy theory that we're getting more Capcom and Arcsys stuff based on some of the stuff I've noticed, but I think I might be reading too much into things and don't want to make this post any longer.
Hmm, interesting! So this basically means we've skipped one notification, which could potentially have been related to CP7?

I'd like to hear more about your Capcom and Arcsys findings too. Even if it all ends up being a stretch, it's something new to talk about.

I'd much rather see what insight you might have after analyzing the order of reveals than discuss blurred porn and the political alignment of Geno. I'm all for deep Smash research, anytime.

Remember that Wayforward announcement that turned out to be Bakugon?

I feel like this would've been a better-recieved announcement...

Anyways, Smash-related, does anybody here actually think we're getting something Smash related tomorrow? I've seen people speculate that that's the reason why this Partner Showcase is actually being promoted, but wouldn't that defeat the point of a Partner Showcase?

The only way I could see anything smash related happening tomorrow is if they do something separate from the showcase which is highly unlikely

Nah. These things are for third party projects. CP7 will be in a Sakurai Presents.

A RWBY fighting game? If that's the case, then it might be good...
And no, I don't think we're getting Smash news tomorrow.

Have you potentially made a document or resource for this stuff? Kind of curious. 🤔

No, and anyone thinking so is setting themselves up for disappointment.

That said, amiibo theory as usual is going to hold up strong as it has before.
Just had to edit this in real quick. As a person who has spent a lot of time working on refining the theory's data, never say never. It's always good to keep an open mind regarding these things. It's held up strong thus far, but nothing is ever a guarantee.

Amiibo Theory looks good.

But so did the New Tab being removed from the website.

IMO, it's good to not treat anything as definitive until Nintendo says anything themselves. Especially this year.
Fun fact. I actually went back into the wayback archive to see if there was indeed a pattern with the tab. While getting stuff was a pain in the keester, I ultimately concluded the tab disappearing was very inconsistent lol.

Also, regarding Amiibo Theory, I go for more of a middle ground approach. I think that the data backing up Amiibo Theory is great. However, there's so many variables involved, that ultimately, there's got to be some leeway there. No theory or hypothesis is "indestructible". Everything is subject to revision.

Maybe but FP7 should be complete by now and recording for supposedly a presentation has already been done months ago. Fairly certain we'll be getting him/her on the last week of September or early October and wouldn't understand why they'd keep holding the announcement back at this point.

They also had no problem announcing and releasing Min Min this year as with all these other announcements of games and showing these partner directs. Why should this be any different especially since again we got a Sakurai presents this year with Min Min.

I'd say some supporters of third-party characters get their hopes up believing there's a chance. Some have tempered expectations. Others "hype irresponsibly" and might look a bit too far into everything, which can lead to big time disappointment when expectations aren't met/theorycrafting falls apart.

Not trying to police how anyone should manage their hype levels, but I've always just found it easier on the mental to not expect much when going in blind to a showcase like this. Personally, I haven't seen anything definitive that would lead me to believe a particular game (in Smash's case, info on a "previously revealed" game or whatever) will 100% shown off tomorrow.

I'll say that I'd like to see Monster Hunter and/or Bayo 3, but if I don't, no biggie. The SMTV + Nocturne reveal in a previous Partner Showcase did enough to keep me satisfied for a while. Not gonna lie, I was feeling like the game got shadow canceled because we weren't hearing ANYTHING about it for the longest time :thedorf:

As for Smash. When it happens, it happens. I honestly just want to get beyond the point of speculating over a real date, tbh.

Wasn’t the “New” tab removed from the Characters soon before Small Battlefield, or am I misremembering? If I’m remembering it correctly, I think it’d still be consistent with a pattern, but rather than it necessarily meaning we’re getting a new character, it’d mean we’re getting a new something from one of the categories on the front page. Which isn’t as exciting, but would still be an indicator for some kind of news

Did he now? That's promising. Astral Chain 2 however I wouldn't hold my breath for, since that's an IP owned by Nintendo.
Isnt it too early for another Astral Chain? Did I missed an announcement of it? I thought their next switch project was guaranteed to be Bayo

Nintendo has not been skipping many events, but most of those skipped events were eventually released like the Metroid Event. There's been only two Spirit Events that have never been released, those being Spirit Events #1019 and #1035.

I first began paying attention to this Spirit stuff around the time of the Cuphead event and I noticed something odd. The Cuphead Event was labeled as Event #1045, which didn't fit at all as the last Event, the Kunio-kun event, was labeled as #1048. I went back and noticed something even weirder.

These were the latest ten Spirit Events at the time as well as the date each of them occurred. I realized that it turns out that Events #1045-1048 were seemingly kept away from the other Spirit Events for some strange reason. If things were as usual, the Resident Evil event would have been Event #1044, but it was grouped with these other three Events for some reason. After thinking for a while, it dawned on me that the reason the Cuphead event was delayed was because they hadn't shown the Cuphead Mii Costume yet and needed to wait until after Byleth's presentation to have the Spirit Event.

From now on, this is all coming from my own speculation, but here's where I began thinking that the Astral Chain, Kunio-Kun and Resident Evil events were decided around the same time as when Nintendo chose to have Cuphead as a Mii Costume. Which going by my theory on the amount of time they begin planning for these events and the date for the Resident Evil event, would be around June 2019. That means that Nintendo might have contacted Arc System Works and Capcom around the same time they began planning the second Fighter Pass.

Again, this could just be me reading too much into things, but it's fun to speculate on this kind of stuff.

FP7 trailer just shows the platform of small Battlefield slowly moving up as all fighters fall: it was Whomp all along. WHOMP Gets Smashed in

Nope, it's always been a mystery, and both of these Directs were around the 10 minute mark. I think it's safe to assume the same for the upcoming one.
The Japanese twitter stated it was ten minutes for the August direct though they didn’t mention the time frame for this new one.

This is pretty interesting, actually. Obviously, I won't take it as fact, but I'd be pretty content if it was.
Capcom's already been tossed around a lot, and the frontrunners seem to be Dante, Phoenix Wright, and Monster Hunter, in no particular order. ArcSys would be more of a darkhorse a la SNK, and if we get an ArcSys rep, it's most likely gonna be Sol Badguy. If the overly detailed moveset I posted on the Sol support thread would suggest, Guilty Gear in Smash would be awesome.

This is some pretty deep speculation. It's nice to have some sleuthing like this again after going in circles for who-knows-how-long.

This is comedy gold.
All part of Cranky Kong's plan to buy barrels by the ton so he can sell them later at a huge profit.

Not oil barrels. Just regular wood ones.

If things were as usual, the Resident Evil event would have been Event #1044, but it was grouped with these other three Events for some reason. After a while of thinking, it dawned on me that the reason the Cuphead event was delayed was because they hadn't shown the Cuphead Mii Costume yet and needed to wait until after Byleth's presentation to have the Spirit Event.

This is really interesting, tbh. I do get that Capcom and Arcsys could very well have been contacted just for the Spirit event and nothing else, but Arcsys in particular strikes me as odd because it has no playable character in Smash (and thus, no previous deals to go off of), unlike Capcom. Not to mention River City/Kunio isn't one of their in-house franchises. Rather, it was acquired in 2015 from the now-defunct Technos Japan.

Just some food for thought: maybe the skipped event is related to 3DAS or the new MH game and they're waiting so we'll get it after it launches?

Is a partner showcase worth catching live? 7 am pt is a pretty weird time. Basically it means I'll be staying up late tonight XD

Depends on if you have the free time to do so. I function on Pacific Time and get up fairly early, so I can probably watch it live if I feel like it, but obviously everyone here aren't me.

All part of Cranky Kong's plan to buy barrels by the ton so he can sell them later at a huge profit.

Not oil barrels. Just regular wood ones.

The latest skipped event was a Tournament Event, so unless the next character is a Monster Hunter, I'm not sure on why they would wait for the new Monster Hunter game to be announced. It's most likely that this Tournament features the next character as there's been a tournament accompanying every new character since Hero.

Really, now? Is there anything indicating that it would be a Tournament specifically? Just curious.

My comment about the no projectiles tournament was half a joke but I actually agree with this. I'd bet on FP7 already being finished, their presentation recorded and the skipped tournament being their accompanying tournament. Which means they will HOPEFULLY be revealed soon, unless Nintendo decides to keep sitting on it.

Yes, actually. The events start differently for every type of event. Let me show you some examples:

Spirit Events begin with 1: https://www-aaaba-lp1-hac.cdn.nintendo.net/en-GB/65ee2b9f/img/1064_news.jpg
General News items like Mii Costumes, new characters or updated versions of the game start with 2: https://www-aaaba-lp1-hac.cdn.nintendo.net/en-GB/fbaa2e35/img/2091_list.jpg
Finally, Tournament Events begin with 4 https://www-aaaba-lp1-hac.cdn.nintendo.net/en-GB/ce190d0f/img/4030_news.jpg

The latest skipped Event would be 4029, meaning that it's a Tournament Event.

Hm, I see. Out of curiosity, what about events that start with 3? Any idea on why it's skipped?
