If the next game ends up cutting 10-15 characters, I'm pretty sure a majority of them will be third-parties. I don't think the first-party cuts will be as drastic as people think.

That being said, if I had to guess what would happen to FE, I'd say either Roy and Chrom get the boot or Corrin does. Marth, Lucina, Ike, Robin, and Byleth are probably fine.

And since we're on the topic, I think Pichu, Greninja, and Incineroar are the only Pokemon in danger. I could see him cutting one or two of those guys.
I kinda hope we don't get a "new' game for a while. I wouldn't mind remakes like Melee HD or something though. In fact, imagine a "ALL STAR SMASH BROS!" game, that has all installments. That would be awesome.

Here we are, discussing roster cuts one day after getting the reveal of a new character alongside six additional characters.

Never change You know what? Please change. We're better than this.

Right?

xenoblade will get a rep in the next cycle. i cant see it not happening. especially because definitive edition is coming.

stop wishing for characters to be gone its childish and immature. FE is that big a series now. to debate that it doesnt deserve it is a losing battle.

i did enjoy the blantant hypocrisy of the fanbase. "another weeb FE character, where's my sora or Rex."- youtube comment on a video.
i wasnt disappointed with byleth he looks like a belmont upgrade which could be interesting, but with all those dante rumors floating around in thelast few days it was a bit deflating.

overall the dlc rating for me perosnally 1. joker 9/10 great game, great new playstyle and very fun to play.
2. hero 10/10 he was designed to be over the top, salt inducing and fun to play. playing or watching hero is never boring and his playerbase embraces the spells. he will always be popular
3. this is where im gonna diverge banjo 3/10. i have no connection to banjo but he is just not fun to play. duckk hunt and pac man are more creative in thier setups and there were design decisions made in his kit (bomb going backwards, how side b works, and normals being inconsistent ) banjo doesnt feel good and when you are out of side b having a move be gone permanently is just gross to me.
4. terry 9/10 his mechanics and translation was basically flawless he is incredibly fun to play as evidenced by the fact terry managed to paoch several ryu and ken mains. his stage is unique and is a blast as well. only downside i dont think he is as fun as ken is. 5. byleth can't grade yet havent played him yet.

Yeah, I can understand this point of view too. I just believe there will be another Smash because... well, moneymaking. But I would be cool with Ultimate just getting ported and such.
I don't know how they could expand upon Ultimate on a pure content level. I feel like they'll go the route of MKT->MK4 or UMvC3->MvCI and try to maybe change something about the core gameplay while also quietly reducing the roster size. Smash as a whole has been largely unchanged, on a non-character-specific level, since the side-B was introduced in 2001. We have our hefty-content game, now show us something new.

It¨s so funny how many "fan rules" Sakurai has killed over the years
https://twitter.com/RevolutionRidly/status/1217959248195391489
I won't lie, I liked the fact that Banjo's reveal invalidated the opinions of all the idiots who were like "There's no way BK has a chance in a Smash game, Minecraft is teh more iconic and thus there is a (totally not fan-concocted) priority rule that favours Steve! If you think they have a chance, you're delusional!"

I get people thinking FE protagonists are flat characters, but Byleth is literally the only "blank slate avatar" in the franchise beyond the dude from FEH. I mean, Ike is one of the more interesting characters in general (and arguably the only LGBT representation in Smash before Byleth). I don't see how you can see they're blank slates unless your experience with the franchise is limited to Smash.

Edit: Oh, guess we've moved on. I wrote this post like a half hour ago but went away for a while before posting. Oops.

Some people really need to chill, there's no point antagonizing FE fans because of Byleth. I myself am kinda conflicted on his inclusion, I love Fire Emblem and swordfighters in general so I'm looking forward to playing him (and 3H is a great game), but I also can't forget how Sakurai said Xenoblade 2 was too recent for Rex to make the cut. In the end, an 8th rep for FE was prioritized over a second Xenoblade rep, and while I don't mind 3H getting a character I would've preferred it to be after Xenoblade 2, the game that was supposedly too recent. Then that excuse at least would've felt more genuine to me.

But it is how it is, and there's still the second pass.

Maybe 1 day, I'll get to laugh at people for saying a Dynasty Warriors rep will never happen because "they're not video game characters".
My argument for when people put this up: Dynasty Warriors reps, while being based off both Chinese History and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a book are in fact Video game reps because they carry stuff from those but are exaggerated and over the top in a way that make these incarnations of them Video Game characters.

There we go.

"It was stated that DLC Fighters would bring worlds and thus new and unrepresented IPs"

The funny thing is that the DLC did bring in new worlds. They just didn't say it would only bring new worlds.
One can also say that Three Houses itself is a new world because it's a different setting to all the other FE games with it's own established lore.

Corrin exists too even if the options were tied to the worst possible characters
Corrin completely slipped my mind, lol.

I guess I should say canon LGBT, but even that's ambiguous and would also mean I'd have to not include Byleth.

Xenoblade 2 really released at the worst possible time for Smash. If it released earlier it was most likely in the base game. If it released in 2018 it was most likely dlc. This make me a bit sad honestly but there's nothing we can do about that.

I'm neither against a new xenoblade rep.. i just.. Don't like rex design, at all. (neither pyra design)
That being said, i only played Xenoblade Chronicles X. Elma was a cool character, but i would totally be hyped for her mostly due to an amazing stage and music :o

Still, planning to get Xenoblade deluxe a go, anf very likely im gonna get and play XB2 afterwards. maybe affter playing XB2 i may warm more to rex ._.

Coughs in Xenoblade X and Elma

like it’s literally right there, and who knows, either Elma can cameo in XCDE like she did in XC2, oooooorrrr... Xeno X DE once XCDE is done??? It’s seriously free real estate for Elma

and by the while... FE3h was so good that i really wish that FE18 was set on teh same universe, maybe on another country. i would love to explore Almyra, the only problem would be determining a canon ending, but mosre likely Golden deer route is closer to canon.

Wouldn't mind a 45 years old Claude there neither.

It’s ok to be disappointed. It’s ok to say that you’re disappointed. It’s even ok to not like Byleth’s inclusion, and to want something different than what other people want.

I don’t really think anybody would argue that.

What I think one of the major problems is, is that when “speculators salt” is brought to the table (no pun intended), the way certain things are carried out can determine the response. Some folks just...whine. Whine. Whine.

Now, I am not trying to tell people that it’s not ok to voice frustration with a character pick. It is completely valid to dislike a character pick. Someone’s opinion isn’t less valid because they don’t like it, and I don’t really think anyone should treat it as such.

At the same time, I do think it’s worth pointing out that there are effective AND ineffective methods of voicing an opinion. If you sit there constantly say that a character objectively sucks because, in your opinion, they suck, then that’s not going to be something that people are willing to listen to. If you try to frame it subjectively, the potential to get an audience would appear to get bigger.

There’s also the fact that no matter how much people voice their displeasure, Byleth isn’t going anywhere. Complaining about it incessantly is akin to shouting into the void. It’s also worth mentioning that Sakurai specifically picked the characters he did because of gameplay opportunities, and that should be worth something. There’s more to Smash as a video game than just the identity of the characters.

I’m sure things will cool down eventually, and I hope they do. In the meantime, before people form opinions of characters they don’t much about or dislike, I recommend doing some research and learn about them and their game.

I am financially able to play certain games, and have done so for essentially all series with a playable character. I realize however that not all individuals are capable of that same task. I would still recommend taking a step back and trying to learn more about picks, even if you don’t like or know them.

This was an epic Jonespost.

I always thought Dunban was the best option of a Shulk Echo. He can't handle the Monado properly but is way more skilled at swordfighting than Shulk is so maybe give him slightly stronger attacks in exchange for constantly taking recoil damage like Pichu. Maybe give him the stronger but shorter Monado Art custom move from Smash 4 too. He'd definitely be interesting.
Dear Sakurai, can I please have Yuri Lowell. I wanna flip on some mother****ers while killing them with a sword, thanks
Smash really needs more long haired anime boys.:nifty:

There we go.
The biggest difference between Dynasty Warriors and franchises like Dragon Ball and Iron Man is that Dynasty Warriors is a video game franchise. The games may be based off of ROTK and Chinese history, but Koei-Tecmo owns their interpretations of those characters. They have as much of a chance as any other video game character out there.

That's my main argument for those people anyways. I guess the bright side to Dynasty Warriors not being as expected as Hayabusa for a Koei-Tecmo rep is that we aren't going to get into **** measuring contests like what was going on with the SE reps or Banjo vs Steve.

So to change this and wanting to ask a question in my head from all day about the FP1 for your thoughts.

So we've talked about rating the characters but what about the stages?
For my example:

Joker - While I'm happy with Mementos, I personally wanted the Casino Palace or a stylised Tokyo Rooftops Stage (Here's hoping for Neku or Tsubasa Oribe for it)

Hero - Find Yggdrasils Altar a bit boring and thought the idea of an sprite based overworld stage like the early Dragon Quest games would have been more distinctive.

Banjo-Kazooie - Happy with it and fun to play in. Pretty Perfect.

Terry - Outside of maybe some Samurai Shodown character cameos, again I'm happy with it.

Byleth - One of my most wanted stages is in. I'm super happy about it, more so than the character appearing. Again one or two more places but doesn't matter.

I know it'll never happen, but I too really hate the characters designs in two, and I'm hoping for Elma if we get one. Though I don't think that'll happen unless they remake X within the next year or two

Given how huge Musou games are, I feel like a DW rep is still a possibility, even if I am placing money on it being Lu Bu if we get one. Since it popularized and basically made the Musou subgenre and the fact Koei has been making Musou's of Nintendo properties, I feel like DW warrants something in Smash. Of course Ninja Gaiden is the more likely choice for a series from Koei to be repped on though Dynasty Warriors would be unexpected but still make some sort of sense.

but how can it be a Jonespost at all without Resident Evil, known in Japan as Biohazard,[a] is a Japanese horror media franchise created by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara,[1][2] and owned by the video game company Capcom. The franchise focuses on a series of survival horror games and includes live-action films, animated films, comic books, novels, audio dramas, and merchandise. The story follows outbreaks of zombies and other monsters created mainly by the Umbrella Corporation.

this is no Jonespost at all

It's possible for assist trophies to get Mii costumes right? If Shovel Knight can't be a fighter, it would be cool if he at least got the Sans treatment.

Does anyone think that Sakurai is maybe building up to an indie rep? We got Sans as a Mii w/a song, then the same for Cuphead. Maybe the Knight from Hollow Knight? I have some personal bias, but I'm not sure which indie game is bigger than those.

I think he's more likely building up to more deluxe Mii costumes for indie characters.

The only other two Indie reps I can think of are Reimu, who has been discussed to death about why she has a slight chance and Quote who.... Well, Niantic is very questionable and I don't know how I'd feel personally even if I adore Cave Story. Hollow Knight would be cool, though.

You know what's real funny though? People trying to spin Fire Emblem as some sort of "victim" as it gets its 8th fighter
Just wait until it gets its 9th one in the next pass. I just hope there'll be some new twitter memes by then because you can only read hoes mad so many times before they stop even looking like words.

That's what I'm hoping with certain series. I would buy Mii Costumes is they did come with more music.

Looking at two examples so far of what would be great.

Akira Yuki with a remix of a Virtua Fighter Theme
Rabbids hat with the main battle theme of Kingdom Battle.

Like seriously give me more music.

I would laugh my ass off if that were the cause. However, I doubt it happens. I due hope they announce another FE game soon just to make the extreme anti-FE bite their nails xD

I think Dynasty Warriors is totally fair game. Dracula's inclusion shows that classic literature characters can be in Smash Bros, provided they're based on a video game franchise's version of the character.
