Yes this is known. This is a variation of the boomerang superjump. There are other variations and glitches that can be done, for example if you hookshot the edge and press A to snap at the same time the boomerang touches you, the game will think you are holding edge (the opponent cannot grab it) but your model will remain hanging from your grapple.
