New to smash, looking to improve

I've been playing smash on and off for pretty much all my life, but I just recently got interested in the competitive scene. I watched melee for a while but never started playing it, now with the release of ultimate I'm ready to start competing. I've yet to attend any tournaments but I want to at some point in the future. Right now I've been enjoying Link but I might switch to Joker once he's released.
