A new trailer for
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet dropped today, and with a new trailer comes exciting info about these upcoming games! The trailer went over several known details, such as Terastallizing and the “Let’s Go!” mechanic, but of particular note are the new features and mechanics.
The Technical Machine Machine
New to
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the redundantly named Technical Machine Machine can be used to craft Technical Machines. By using League Points and materials dropped by wild Pokémon, trainers can craft a multitude of TMs. League Points are given for progressing in the story, as well as trading materials from Pokémon. This may imply that TMs are once again one-time use items, but being able to craft them should hopefully make them less tedious to obtain than in previous games.
Of course in a new
Pokémon trailer, everyone wants to see the new Pokémon. One new Pokémon was officially revealed in this presentation, that being the Normal/Psychic type Farigiraf. Evolving from Girafarig only in the Paldea region, Farigiraf’s tail has now engulfed its head in what appears to be some sort of horrifying flesh-helmet. (In all seriousness, it is pretty cute.)
Curiously, the UK and American trailers seem to have shown more Pokémon than were intended. Just who are these little guys? We’ll have to stay tuned to find out!
This game’s Pokémon-Amie-style mechanic, Picnics can be used when exploring the Paldean wilderness to take a rest with your Pokémon. Similarly to past games, you can clean, play with, and take pictures with your Pokémon. This can have various effects such as healing your team and making them more friendly toward you. New to Picnics, you can also customize the appearance of your picnic table by changing out props and tablecloths. Trainers can also make sandwiches, which may make certain types of Pokémon easier to find and catch, increase your experience gain, and more. Picnics can also be enjoyed with friends by trainers with a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

? Are you glad that you can craft TMs, or annoyed that they seem to once again be limited-use? Will you be holding picnics with your team as you venture across Paldea? Is Farigiraf your new favorite Pokémon? I, personally, am still on the Wiglett train, but I can certainly respect them giving an evolution to a Pokémon as overlooked as Girafarig.
