New Items Idea

I know most of you play without items. First of all I claim that someone who doesn´t master the whole game, shouldn´t call himself a pro - but thats just my opinion.;)
Some gamers don´t even play on Coneria because they say the Airwings would be unfair - well, they are not. They always announce when they are going to attack and if you don´t notice that and get hit, it´s your fault. It makes the stage more complex and harder to master - not the opposite.
Another thing to consider is that some characters are better in getting or using items than others (It´s hard to prevent Pichu from grabbing them and Falcon is good with the star rod etc.) So if you dismiss items you lever out certain character attributes.
By the way there is nothing wrong with exploding boxes. Open it by throwing them and you won´t get hit.

However I admit, that some Items are unfair becaue you can´t respond or do sth against them like hearts appearing directly in front of your opponent or a bomb that appear out of nowhere and explode (not the ones that walk towards you since they announce themselfes).

That´s why thought about this:

What if all players would be forwarned? A certain spot of the stage is higlighted which means that a Items appears in e.g. ten seconds (different colors could hint at how important the items will be, e.g. red for smash ball). That way every player would always have to chance to get the item!

What do you think?

Items are a random fun element to a match. And the Smash ball is the perfect example.

I think you're asking to get flamed, seeing as all your points except your idea have already been torn apart in the millions of other item threads :|

I think Items are fine the way they are, I myself usually don't play with items but once in a while I do. If they were to announce where an item will appear ten seconds before it appears it could be interesting seeing characters fight to get to that spot.

Well I think the way items appear now is fine. Good idea though, i just personally wouldn't like it. If you could choose to "warn players an item is about to appear" and choose not to...then i think it could work.

Actually this thread was meant to be for discussing my idea... :ohwell:

Then I should rephrase: That's all you should have posted.

Almost the entire post was just your (redundant) rant about the use of items in competitive play. All the post needed was the last paragraph.

That´s why I highlighted the last paragraph. ;)
I just wanted to take up a position...

Yeah, I´d love to have the option.
I think my idea actually underlines what brawl is all about - kicking sb out, wether it´s the whole stage or a certain spot of the level.

It would DEFINITELY help with cpu's, who somehow know where items they can't see are.
