How is this news that Ness can pick which side of DK to land on during the grab release lol, thought this was common Ness knowledge, I'm pretty sure I learned this fact from SWF about 2 years ago. If the DK has perfect reaction it may be an infinite but I've never seen it happen in high level tournament play. Yay for Ness being able to escape yet another 'infinite,' albeit it's still not fun to be dsmashed by dk out of grab.

also, agreed with clinton about infinites in friendlies.

I knew about it as well Vice, but not everybody was around 2 years ago and not everybody was a member of the various BRs we had (remember Happy Happy Cult? :)) where we discussed these things, so they may have missed this information. And I guess it's better late than never to learn these facts.

And I find it ironic how Sakurai intended Brawl to be a fun game yet he overlooks a vast majority of things that ruin the game. ;3

Ah yes, good point Dajayman. Better late than never as you say. technically I'm the owner of the HHC on aib but it was dead when I inherited it.

Didn't know sakurai claimed a main, I'd like for him to play a top mk or even just a chainbgrabbing D3 to see how fun his game is. I'd imagine he'd just shrug and be like 'only melee was meant to be somewhat competitive, tripping should have been a clue for you guys.' Or something along those lines.

There was a video of Sakurai playing some random Poocas main as Ganondorf. And the announcers at one point shout out "HE IS ENTAHTAINAAH!".

His Ganon sucked though, even though he did pull off a nice wiz kick cancel, but he's dumb and SD'd with another wiz kick.

hahaha I'd really like to see that match. Did he mean to abuse grab release or was he just dumb and pummeled too many times with ganny's slow arse pummel. Because if he meant to use grab release on purpose he's a real biatch.

I'm pretty sure I've heard that you can choose which direction you can go with Ness in DK's CH GR as well. It is just that I forget things sometimes.

Thanks, oh wow he did grab release but I doubt he was knowledgeable enough to do it on purpose. Who knows if they ever even realized their failure with Lucas's and Ness's release animation (as well as squirtle's and wario's, among others).

Late response but...

Yeah, but DK still has 30 frames to see which direction you went before doing the regrab.
No he doesn't. His grab has 7 frames of startup, so he has 23 frames maximum to decide. Also if Ness doesn't move to one side of DK immediately upon grab release then you would also have to account for those early frames. :)

No.
DK has 30 frames of GR lag, Ness has 40.
In those 30 DK can see which direction you went and regrab.

I was over nyah, but now I'm over hnah.
Shouldn't anyone playing DK do everything to avoid grabbing anyway?
I mean, when you see a DK player coming up that close you should probably think to spotdodge..
but oh well. Either way, any Ness/Lucas that's grabbed by a DK is pretty much doomed to a predictable escape attempt.

I think I'm going to make Ness rules: give me like 20 min.

In order to be a Ness main...:

1. Don't Get Grabbed
2. You MUST love Brinstar
3. Learn how to Recover. You must!
4. Learn to love Marth. Deal with him appropriately
5. Appreciate EarthBound to some degree

...anything to add?
