I've been watching all the streams and tournaments of Smash 4 and I know it's very early in the metagame, but it's actually looking hopeful that Ness will be high on the tier list! Yes... I know that Ness was considered 3rd best when Smash 64 first came out, but this is a new game in a new era.

PK Thunder juggling apparently got buffed. The startup is much shorter and the knockback from the PKT hit has increased. Fair spacing is very effective. Back throw is still amazing.

Overall it seems that Ness' options are much better in this game, can't wait to finally try him out myself!

We've endured quite a bit of hardship over the past years, but it was all leading up to this moment. Smash 3DS is Ness's chance to take the stage! I have absolute hope that he'll be among the better characters.

Haha, I know what you're thinking but it wasn't on purpose. I have no intention of acting like that person.

It looks like his style is going to be a little more focused around his specials than it has been, similar to Lucas. I don't think his A moves were buffed much but from a quick glance at the wiki it looks like every one of his specials received a substantial improvement.

I don't know why I've seen a good number of posts saying Ness was nerfed. After watching Zipzo's gameplay of him, he looks to be just as good as he was in Brawl, easily, if not better. I'm excited for the special customs, especially; the Lucas-esque PK Fire, slower PK Thunder, and rising PK Flash sound awesome.

You can control the PK Starstorm now which is pretty cool.

His PK Flash is still meh regarding speed.
Can do 37% damage if hit fully charged

His PK Fire travels further IIRC.

Like I said he'll be his strongest in this game.

I know I just wanted to do that xD

I think it's too early. While Ness has been buffed a lot it seems, so have a lot of characters, arguably everyone is better because of the physics changes. I'm definitely looking forward to playing him, even if he hasn't improved as much as others.

So much DR love in this thread. So good.

Ness ended up pretty low in 64 as time went on, iirc.

I know, that's what I was referencing, his fall from 3rd best down to the bottom forever. Ness always seems to be one of those super gimmicky characters that no one knows how to beat at first, but then gets figured out in like 2 weeks.

Ah, gotcha. Hopefully he ends up good. I always try maining him at the start but I always felt like I had to switch.

Hopefully nothing dumb like grab release stuff happens to him again, haha.

There are still apparently a few instances of it, such as Mario being able to use D-Throw + Jab + Grab -> repeat (needs source, but this is the word on the street), but for the most part, Chain Grabs and Grab-Release is gone, yes.

Ness looks a lot better overall this game, including having a lot less lag to deal with on the majority of his skills that had a lot in Brawl. It should of course be noted that everyone was buffed in some shape or form, and that the physics have changed. How Ness will fair out will require everyone to be playing and for a meta-game to grow. I have an overall good feeling about him though personally.

PK Thunder actually looks decent, even if it is a little unreliable, but it may be the controls. At least is not god awful like Melee. PK Flash sucks. I saw a match of FOW VS ZeRo and the fully charged PK Flash was right at Samus' face AND IT DIDN'T HIT! TWICE! The small pillar in PK Fire hurts but at least is useful and is not a lag machine like 64's. I haven't seen anyone pull out B-air though. Weird.

Looking at his moveset through videos, I have to say this is Ness's best game. He stands out among many of the other characters and he finally has a chance to be at the top!

All the people that played Ness I've seen so far ( 200x, NAKAT, FOW, and Awestin) are very good and give Ness a name. Go Ness!

We have two huge reasons to be hopeful:

1 - Grab infinite's are nearly impossible.
2 - Multi-hit moves can't really be DI'd out of anymore, so Fair, PK Fire, etc are all much stronger at higher levels of play than before.

I feel like it's too early to say but damn, Ness is by far the smoothest he's ever been in this game. Seriously, playing as him feels like a cool summer breeze.

I gotta second this. I'm considering picking up Ness because he just flows.

He seems about the same, though he might do decently in terms of tiers due to some favorable matchups I'm noticing.

After watching Fow DESTROY with Ness, I gotta agree, and I'm really hopeful. Even M2K, who doesn't know much about the game yet, said that Ness feels really good after trying it.
I don't care if he isn't top tier, I just hope that he's good enough to see some tourney light, still gonna main it regardless.
