I. What is a NCT Tournament?
You should already know

II. WHEN/WHERE?

March 27, 2010

Long Beach, CA
1250 Bellflower Boulevard
Long Beach, California 90840

PRINT THIS OUT IF YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING TO GET LOST

III. The Background Story
This have been a very hectic year for me. I was suppose to host MJ2 this day for a two day event, but I can't arrange it right now. So, I'm hosting this instead for Hugo cause he's Hugo. I think I met him at his first ken's biweekly.

IV. MONEY ISSUES

Venue Fee: $5
Singles: $10
Doubles: $10 ($5 per person) you are only paying for yourself. Partner still needs to pay their own.

all register players will be updated here:
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=267280

DISCOUNT: Bring a TV + cube/wii get $5 off. Bring a TV or Wii or cube get $2 off. Show it to me at the tourney and I will give you discount.

Payouts:

Doubles/Mid Tier:
1st - 58% of pot
2nd - 28% of pot
3rd - 9% of pot
4th - 5% of pot

Singles:
1st - 56% of pot
2nd - 26% of pot
3rd - 8% of pot
4th - 5% of pot
5th - 3% of pot
6th - 2% of pot

These are subject to adjustment, possibly extending payouts to 8th place if attendance is high enough.

Spectators

Anyone who spectates will have to pay a $3 in place of the venue fee. And they should not expect the right to play friendlies anytime during the day. You may play friendlies during the morning and evening, but never when the tournament is actually going on. That's a right that you earn by entering the tournament.

Not trying to rip anyone off or anything, but the staff are putting a ton of effort towards running this event, and showing up but not entering puts a strain on our resources without contributing anything to the tournament itself (whereas a player contributes competition, atmosphere, etc.). It's kinda like crashing a party you weren't invited to.

Please encourage your spectating friends to respect me and the entrants who paid by not playing friendlies during the tournament.

VII. RULES
General (apply to all events unless otherwise noted):

* Stage Striking will be in effect for the first match of the set. The player with the lower port will get to choose the first strike. Loser chooses ban before next match.
* Items off.

* Ties are broken by remaining lives, then %. If both criteria are tied, then the Sudden Death match will be played out.
*One ban per player per set. To be chosen after loss.

* The loser of the first match will announce a new stage to play on for the next game. The winner will then be allowed to switch characters, followed by the loser. Apply the same logic for the third match (and fourth/fifth when applicable) if there is one. (Advanced Slob Picks)

*You cannot go back to the last stage you won in a set, unless agreed upon by the other player. (Modified Dave's Stupid Rule)

* Double Blind character pick can be called at anytime before the first game of a set starts, and only apply to the first game.

* Controller Mods, Glitches (IC Freeze Glitch, Mewtwo Soul Stunner, etc), and tactics used to stall a match (wall-bombing, rising pound), are banned.

* For doubles: Team Attack will be ON, life stealing allowed.

* Wobbling is banned.

* There will be no ties in any tournament. Anyone refusing to play any Match (including the finals) will be disqualified and forfeit all rights to any titles or prizes they might have otherwise earned for that tournament.

* Collusion of any kind with your competitors is considered cheating. If the Tournament Director determines that any competitor is colluding to manipulate the results or intentionally under performing, the collaborating players may be immediately disqualified. This determination is to be made at the sole discretion of the Tournament Director. Anyone disqualified in this manner forfeits all rights to any titles or prizes they might have otherwise earned for that tournament.

Hugs Stupid Rule - You can only pick neutral stages against mid tier or lower char. unless agreed upon by the player. However, mid and lower can counterpick freely on high tier and above. The player must call for the HSR before the set for it to be use.

Pools:

* Pool matches are best 2 of 3, 4 stock.
* 8 minute time limit.
* All General rules apply to pool matches, including Advanced Slob Picks, Modified Dave's Stupid Rule, Double Blind picks, and stage striking and banning.
* Your ranking within your pool will be determined by the number of sets you win. Individual games won will not be considered, except:
o In the case of a tie, the tied players will be ranked in the following order:
+ Number of individual games won.
+ Number of individual games lost (fewer games gives a higher rank).
+ Head-to-head records.
Please note that beating the player you're tied with in the pool is the last criteria considered. Do not complain if someone you beat advances and you do not.
* To summarize: you are playing a full, bracket-style set for each of your pool matches, and will be ranked primarily on the number of sets you win.

Brackets:

* Bracket matches are best 2 of 3, 4 stock.
* 8 minute time limit.
* Winners' bracket finals, losers' bracket finals, and championship sets are all best 3 of 5. Losers and winners semi will also be 3 out of 5 for SINGLES ONLY

Stages:

*Neutrals

Final Destination
Yoshi's Story
Dreamland 64
Battlefield
Fountain of Dreams (1v1 only)
Pokemon Stadium (2v2 only)

*Counterpicks 1v1:

Kongo Jungle 64
Brinstar
Rainbow Cruise

NOTE: Pokemon Stadium is only neutral for 2v2. It's a counter pick for 1v1. Fountain of Dreams is only neutral for 1v1 and it's ban for 2v2 due to lag.

Misc:

* The Mages' DQ Rule is applicable when a player is late for a bracket match and it goes as follows:
o 2 Minutes Late – Warning
o 4 Minutes Late – Loss of first match of set
o 8 Minutes Late – Loss of set
This will be enforced judiciously.

cool

when/where section says march 20

and lol @ hugs stupid rule; does the character restriction apply to character choice from the previous game? or does the player being CP'd have the option to pre-emptively switch to a lower tiered character prior to the stage select?

and can the CP-er then change to a top-tiered character?

Haha I didn't even consider that, I assumed everyone used one character. Ill rreword the rule so that it states that it is based on characters selected in the previous match and that high tiers can counterpick high tiers freely.

Lol **** all of you, no more free wins because you think "hey, this ****ty character beat me, so ill take him to where the stage will do half the work despite the fact that I have a much better character".

God, what a fantastic rule

I really hope it gets adopted by every tournament, bad grammar and all.

Pick up a secondary if it really bothers you.

Is the Mid tier bracket mid tier and lower or just mid tier. I'll enter if I can enter my Link.

How about instead of picking up a secondary, I deal with getting beat for free on gay stages for nearly six years, and rejoice at the one chance I have to make a rule that benefits myself and every other deficient character in a pretty fair way. How's that sound :)

Oh, and the mid tier tourney is for mid and lower

Cuz it's supposed to be a stupid rule

Oh, and the cper can change to a high tier because the opponent will be a high tier, and High tiers can Cp freely on each other

Dammit, I don't want to have to remember where high tier ends and mid tier begins!

</laziness>

Actually, I still feel like being lazy.

<laziness> That's better.

mission accomplished

i think this'll hold it back from being as big as you want it to be though

also will the rules change at all for a bo5? between stage bans and DSR, a 5-stage list is cutting the options really really thin

LoL i honestly think I will do poorly in the mid tier tournament, and do better in the regular tournament.

EDIT: I'll think about editing my rule champ.

And wobbling is banned, naturally.

I'd actually like to enforce a rule where if you even think about wobbling, you'll be escorted out of the premises. Or perhaps if you've ever had any wobbling offenses in the past, you'll be slain.

The rule better only apply to you Hugo and no one else.

And Mango's Link is probably gonna win the Mid tier tourney.

Ok I'm trying to compare my stupid rule to stupid rules of the past NCT tournaments.

Champ combo had champs stupid rule, where one would not be allowed to ban Green Greens, giving a near auto win to most decent foxes/falcos.

Mango juice had mango's stupid rule, where one could not ban dream land, giving a great CP advantage to Peach/Samus/Jiggs.

Nice shot Hugo has hugo's stupid rule, where one must CP a neutral vs mid-lower tiers, giving mid-lower tiers a lesser disadvantage by being counterpicked to a disadvantageous neutral as opposed to a non winnable CP.

I'm honestly seeing my rule as the least game changing, though the most applicable, since it will apply to a much larger, though less used, portion of the cast.

And if you really think the 3 main CP stages (Cruise, Brinstar, Kongo) aren't too broken, you're kidding yourselves. The more popular mid-low tiers can't compete very well on those stages. Link/Samus/Luigi cannot recover (reliably) on any of the three CP's. Doc has to waste a ban on Rainbow Cruise, as Shroomed pointed out, to avoid an auto loss. It seems like ganon is fine on all three CP's though, so I guess no one benefits or loses as far as ganon goes.

Oh, and let's not forget that Stadium is a near auto win for fox, and a great advantage for falco/falcon/sheik.

As for less popular mid-low tiers, they're so bad at this game that it shouldn't matter if you can't take a Roy to Kongo Jungle, you sick *******. Just take him to Dreamland and **** him up anyways...

But I understand it'd irk all the non mid-low tier players, so how about a compromise...

HugS's Stupid Rule (HSR) - A mid-low tier player may not be taken to a counterpick stage if a mid-low tier character was used in the match prior AND if the player that is being counter picked states that he'd like the HSR rule to take effect before announcing his/her stage ban. If the player that is being counterpicked did not choose a mid-low tier in the match prior or made no mention of the rule before he/she banned a stage, the counterpicking player may choose a stage freely based upon the other tournament rules.

Now I'll crudely analyze the effects of this rule on attendance:
The great mid-low tier players will love this rule, and will support it by attending.

The less than stellar mid-low tier players will also love this rule, and will support it by attending.

The mediocre high tier players will either dislike or not care about this rule, They don't plan on making money anyways, so I don't think they'll mind so much. And really, their CP strategies haven't really developed into becoming the crux of their overall strategy yet.

The great high tier players will dislike this rule, but will realize there aren't enough threatening mid-low tier players out there.

TL;DR

If the high tiers were winning due to gay stages, then boo-hoo. If we can be told to simply "learn a secondary" than you all can be told to simply "be a better player, learn a neutral" for this one tournament.

Plus, I'm sure with each region that is likely to attend having at least one mid-tier player of major influence (AZ - Axe, WA - Ka, Norcal - Shroomed/HMW/Germ, Socal - HugS) I don't think attendance will be a problem.

Honestly, it's not even that unfair. It might even come close to being "fair" if anything.

One day tournament? All right, I'm bringing Ammon to this if I have to kidnap him.

Edit: As a Fox player... Hugs' Stupid Rule is a GREAT idea. It feels so hollow to beat low tiers/Peaches on Poke Floats etc completely mindlessly lol.

As it is, with DSR, the stage ban, and this "HSR", the other player has only 3 legal stage choices out of a supposed 9

maybe if the player invokes "HSR", they have to forfeit their right to DSR and/or their regular stage ban or something?

This makes more sense.

Also the tournament seems cool.
And even though I use two high tier characters, I support HSR.

Meh, this shouldn't be a big deal in a 2/3. I mean, I can't even think of a scenario where a high tier will face a low tier and think "All 3 of these stages provide a disadvantage for me".

In a 3/5 set, I could see this becoming an issue if only for a lack of options. But I still don't see it being as that big a deal.

Hugo, I understand your want for the rule this one tournament, which is perfectly fine. But to say it should be adopted to all tournaments is silly. Can't expect to get an advantage for being a "worse" character. Unless it was just sarcasm, then nevermind.

hope ya all have fun at this

in case any1 was wondering, there will most likely be pools for singles. I just need to make sure we have enough time to make it happen and don't go to like midnight for no reason.
