I had a thought: what if, instead of WoL, Ultimate had an Adventure Mode that was more like Melee’s in progression, but like Subspace in gameplay? Here were my level ideas for this hypothetical mode (keep in mind this was a LOT of hard work, having to make over 80 levels across 33 stages; ^ indicates a boss who appears in Classic Mode):

I really liked the idea and it's pretty well executed but I have a few nitpicks:

Cramming all Fire Emblem characters into a single horde battle is a huge missed opportunity considering they come from 6 different games.
Why Wii Fit and Miis are grouped under one franchise series when they are not?
Stage 33-2 is a little letdown when there are a lot more antagonists than those three.

Seems way too long to be a Melee style Adventure Mode.
I like the idea overall, but honestly, if Smash gets a story mode in the future, I think it should have a map and upgrade system like World of Light, but instead of having a several hundred Spirit battles, it should have Subspace and Melee Adventure-esque levels.

Basically, take the best of all worlds.
Melee's theming (Levels are clearly based on established franchises rather than being generic.)
Brawl's cutscenes and level design.
3DS's Smash Run for some levels.
Wii U's.... I dunno. Smash Tour should have just been a proper Mario Party clone. Maybe include it as a bonus game to earn more goodies.
And Ultimate's semi-nonlinear world map. But actually theme the world off of the various playable franchises. Have a Mario universe section, Sonic section, Zelda section, etc. So long as its a cohesive world with fun levels.
And DLC characters could actually integrate into this mode by adding extra sections to the map to represent their franchise.

Personally I want a metroidvania esque story mode, just wandering around famous nintendo locales encountering enemies and bosses from franchises and unlocking characters as you go along. I have a more in depth version, but heres the short one.

1. I wanted to emulate a normal chapter from an FE map, as to keep it short and sweet.
2. I figured that since the Wii Fit series had little content, I’d lump in some Wii Sports stuff, Miis and all.
3. Sorry I didn’t use more villains, but I wanted to make that stage a homage to Melee’s Event 51.

I considered all of that except for Brawl’s cutscenes specifically. As in, if there were cutscenes, they’d be more like Melee in length, but with bits of dialogue.

That was basically my idea with this Adventure Mode.

You could literally have a field day with the bosses here.

Changed the title. And yes, I COULD have a field day with bosses, but I wanted to stick with bosses in Classic Mode and only added two, assuming they were in Classic Mode.

But…maybe I could add bosses EXCLUSIVE to this mode?

The F-zero stage from melee where you were running on the track would be dope to have back. I loved that part of melee's adventure. This one looks like it would be fun tho, makes me wish we did have a brawl or melee type adventure mode in this game as opposed to WoL.
