Square and Nintendo's "relationship" is not bad...

Especially considering a number of Square games are getting onto nintendo systems such as a Kingdom Hearts Orginization 13 game and such

I don't know, I just have this funny feeling about Geno that he doesn't make it but he has a great chance so I want to include him on my list. Both him and Dr. Mario are toss-ups

So are Miyamoto - remember the joke about him being a character.

Stan the Bugman seems to be the suprise wtf character due to his retroness and the fact that he was a trophy and mentioned a lot in Melee.

...wow, this is terrible. Doctor Mario? Tails? Stan the Bugman? Five 3rd-parties (when Sakurai mentioned in his journal the probable amount was 2-3 total)? Miyamoto (wtf, hes no video game character!)?? Heck, you even forgot some confirmed characters (Zero Suit Samus and Ice Climbers at first glance).

Just no...

Ice Climbers is on there and Zero Suit Samus is a version of Samus. I think you can start the match as Zero Suit Samus but still it will be like Shiek/Zelda.

Miyamoto mentioned in an interview that even he had a 1% chance of making the game... (hint, hint).

In the same interview that Sakurai said their could be as many as (not for sure language there) 2-3 total third parties, Sakurai also stated that there would be only 2 modes to play the game. There is in fact 4. That interview was over a year in a half ago and he in all the statements he gave guesses, not solid statements.

Tell me a reason Stan the Bugman doesn't make it.

well Ireally doubt we'll be getting more than three 3rd party character, plus Dr. Mario? c'mon he doesn't have a chance, maybe as Mario alternate costume at most, but just doesn't have a chance as a character anymore

I say it is a toss-up. In fact Roy and Pichu may be a toss-up as well. I can't say for sure what Melee characters will be back or not.

Stan the Bugman
Miyamoto or another suprise character (?)
Tails

I don't want to be critical of you, for your guess is as good as anyone, but the guys I found in your prior post (listed above) have the longest shot of getting, especially Tails. Tails is cool and all, but Pac-Man, as you mentioned, has a better chance than Tails...or Stan the Bugman.

If Tails gets in and not PAC-MAN....then they might as well have...
Juggernaut
Optimus Prime
Peter Griffin
Derek Jeter
Vegeta
The Thing from Fantastic Four
Boba Fett
Alf
Greg the Bunny
Snoopy
Gollum

and...Felix the cat.

because Sakurai somewhere stated that all Melee characters wouldn't be returning, and Roy, Dr. Mario, Pichu, possibly YLink (replaced by WW Link) are the most likely not to return

Well I did leave out Pichu and Roy...

How do we know that Dr. Mario will be totally cut?

Because you don't like him?

Lucario was a thought as well, but I think Mewtwo steals his spot. That is his direct competition and an updated Mewtwo stays on over Lucario.

^because he would just be another clone of Mario unless of course he got a totally new moveset then well that would be a different story

I liked Dr. Mario alot, but his chances of coming back are about as good as Pichu and Roy's chances.
Which I said was about 50-50... one or two of the three is likely to get cut... just not sure of the three which will remain which won't if any of them.

Thanks for responses everyone. I wanted to add that Mario is moving away somewhat from his old moveset with the FLUDD additions. Also Dr. Mario could be tweaked a bit to no longer be a clone.

Thats called "using hyperbole to make a point."

I'm not talking about an interview, I'm talking about his online journal - blog, if you prefer - which Samurai Panda translated. You can find it [thread=72642]here[/thread]. It contains no such statement about the game modes as you made, so I'm fairly certain its not what you're referring to. And in any event, the age of the information has little to do with it - assuming hes going to do something differently from what he has said he will without any evidence is pure folly.

Besides, logically, 2-3 third parties makes sense. Most of Nintendo's own series are only likely to get that many, so why should other developers be represented more heavily than that? Especially when there are so many in-demand, worthy Nintendo options to choose from that not all can make it in no matter how you work it?

How about the fact that hes an ancient character no one remembers anymore? (I had to do some intense internet research just to figure out who he is - even Wikipedia had nothing on him!) Random characters don't get put into SSB for no reason, you know. The Ice Climbers made it as a retro due to being a favorite of Sakurai's. Mr. Game & Watch made it because he was Nintendo's first character and is a tribute to the man who created the Game Boy (and thus the handheld video game market itself), Gunpei Yokoi. Pit got in on popular demand. Why on earth would a forgotten Mario wannabe out of Donkey Kong 3 even be considered for the game?

Okay, let me get this straight...you think there can only be four Pokemon reps, but you can give 5 third party, and TAILS nonetheless?!? And Dixie...she's as good as gone...Sakurai's not gonna reveal any characters through trophies like that...I would THINK he'd reveal them in an update first...and STAN THE BUGMAN?!? OVER LUCARIO?!?! NO!!

I could see all 3 getting cut, unless

1.) Roy and not MARTH or Claus reps. FE with Ike
or
2.) All 3 get completely new move sets, but I just don't see that happen. I believe they will be replaced with characters that were more...what the word...in demand? Or maybe characters that didn't get a chance in Melee but didn't make it. Example...Pit is a good example. Diddy Kong is another.

Pit made it and he is retro. The Stan the Bugman argument by you was so weak though that it does not deserve a real response.

Online blog? What I read did have mention of the play styles and Sakurai was uncertain at the time what third parties where going to be in the game. Plus that was not a definite statement.

Miyamoto would be a fun add for entertainment and to acknowledge Miyamoto for what he has done for nintendo and the video gaming industry.

I'd like to see more 3rd party characters, but I think those that have some connection to Nintendo, Pac Man, BomberMan, etc. will get first dibs over Tails, Knuckles, Vector Man, and so forth.

Like I said, Pit had popular demand - his fans were still around, he was still remembered, and he was heavily requested. Stan the Bugman is by no means comparable.

Yet it is still the only information we have on the subject, and it seems logical. Assuming it won't be accurate without any evidence of such is utter idiocy - much like assuming a minor character with no fans, no importance to Nintendo or the gaming industry, no mention by Sakurai or anyone involved with Brawl, and no special circumstances to support him could be in the game (*points to Stan suggestion again*).

Do you even understand the concept of hyperbole? Let me explain it to you: Miyamoto wished to give the fans the impression that anything is possible in SSB. Therefore, he made a completely illogical statement which is highly exaggerated. It is meant to make the make point by showing an extreme and obviously joking example of the possibilities. It is not meant to be taken seriously. Any simple logic should tell you that last, given that the whole point of SSB is to bring together video game characters (which Miyamoto is not), and many of the characters in SSB are Miyamoto's already (thereby acknowledging all he has done for Nintendo and gaming already), and its astounding you need to have it spelled out for you.

Tails has a good chance already for several reasons...

This is why I believe he has a good chance.

1. Contract already made. Sonic in, Tails can be added easily
2. Popular and retro second character in a popular series, if Sonic was a Nintendo Franchise, Tails would be confirmed no problem. Tails was not just in video games, but popular television series as well.
3. IGN and Gamespy rumors, support
4. SEGA's personality and negotiating style... they usually get in more then just Sonic in cameos
5. Unique fighting style
6. Sonic series is popular enough overall to support a second representative
7. Sakurai and Miyamoto have both stated that they liked the old school Sonic Games, Tails was a very huge part of old school sonic, as was Eggman/Robotnik

Zevox here is the thread where they discussed and debunked the idea of only 2-3 3rd party characters

http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=105937
Please, theres no debunking there, just speculation with flimsy logic (one statement of Sakurai's turned out to be an understatement, so this one must be too? Thats more like wishful thinking than logic). After the first few posts it degenerates into speculation as to who the third-parties will be, and (surprise surprise) most people list at most 3 of them.

Ok you don't have to be insulting... if so then I am not going to respond to hyperbole argument. As for the Stan the Bugman argument. Look at Ice Climbers, Ness, Pit, Game & Watch, Marth, Roy, Dr. Mario, Captain Falcon, etc. They were all put in because of their history and influence in Nintendo. Stan the Bugman could very well be the wtf character of brawl. I put a question mark next to Miyamoto because I am not totally sure if he makes it or not but I think he has a chance.

One statement about the game about the same time was an understatement... hmm. Shows you that things change over time. You don't think that after Sakurai saw the popularity of having Snake and Sonic in it and if he got offers from Megaman and Bomberman, he would say no to all of them. I am going on hints I have heard from Nintendo employees. Not hints that actually characters will make it, but on the fact that more is going to be in the game then we realize.

indeed he does, but as an Assist Trophy not a playable character since we probably wo'nt see more than three 3rd party characters and we've already seen two of them, so that leaves one spot which is probably for Megaman

Just like we wouldn't see more then 2 modes on a controller... oh wait, nevermind we have four. Don't ride statements made a year in a half to two years ago that where not made as concrete statements but rather speculations.

The bottomline is that everything on this forum is speculation. Sure, we all have our theories based on what we've heard, seen, and read about which characters will be def be in brawl or whose def, but in reality, we really have no idea. How many people will be in complete shock if King Dedede doesn't make brawl, but a wtf character like Stan the Bugman makes it? Plenty, myself included. Some of this speculation may turn out to be correct, but until then, its all, what I'd like consider, educated guesses.

My educated guess says Stan the Bugman doesn't have a great chance to make brawl, atleast, from what I;ve determined on my own. Does that mean I'm right? Of course not. I could be wrong. So until then we dont have to get mad at each other because we don't like a character someone else posted and thinks they have a chance to make the game.

Its a game for christ's sakes. Hey, i wonder if Jesus will make it?

Back to the game, I don't know everything about Stan the Bugman, but I would think Balloon Fighter or someone of that stature would have more pull then Stan.

*sigh* Each and every one of those had reasons to be in which Stan does not. Ice Climbers were a personal favorite of Sakurai's. Ness was a representative of the Mother/Earthbound series, which while small is still continuing today. Game & Watch was Nintendo's first character and a tribute to the man who created the Game Boy. Marth is one of Fire Emblem's 3 most popular characters (then 2, since Ike didn't exist at the time of Melee), and Fire Emblem itself is one of Nintendo's most popular series in Japan. Roy was an add for a new, upcoming Fire Emblem game (his game came out 4 months after Melee). Doctor Mario was in as filler because Sakurai liked his music and Melee was on a strict deadline to get out by the 'Cube's release. Captain Falcon is there to represent the popular F-Zero franchise.

What is Stan the Bugman? A Mario replacement from the ancient Donkey Kong 3. He has no fans, he comes from a well-represented series, and has no special circumstances to support him. He has no importance to Nintendo or video gaming history at all. Waluigi has more reason to be in Brawl than he does, and thats saying something.

So in other words, you're basing your entire argument on vague statements which could mean just about anything and speculation about utterly unrelated statements which turned out to be understated in the end. This is flimsy logic which calls for a lot of assumption. There is no more reason to believe it to be true than there is to believe that Brawl's release date will be pushed back further.

I agree with most this thread... I am not getting mad at your responses, but I will defend my position. I like hearing your posts plus if you read the original post, I left room for you guys to criticize my list and disagree.

I am going to edit it over time. I honestly thinking of taking Miyamoto off now. However, Stan the Bugman has a good shot. I might add Isaac.

That wasn't completely directed at you, just so you know. As for Isaac...that's an interesting one I hadn't thought of. Hmmm....well, I guess his chances are good as anyone elses. I'll have to ponder that one.

Stan the Bugman could very well make it. Question is what series would he be in. He is not apart of DKC nor is he apart of Mario. He is his own unit, same as DK jr. Also want to add that at the time Captain Falcon, Marth, etc. where added, they were not well-known in large parts of the world. Fire Emblem had never been seen in North America. Also you mentioned Dr. Mario as a filler character, how do you know that Sakurai may not like something about Stan the Bugman and could add him. He certainly had a lot of stuff about him in his trophy in Melee.

As for the vague statement/assumption... are you not doing the same thing with your argument that only 2-3 third parties will make it. That is what that entire thread I posted was about, how you guys are riding a very weak, flimsy argument.

Thanks for arguing with me but please don't get so hostile and start to insult me.
