This stage is based off the original Super Mario Bros's stage World 1-1 as if it has been left in ruins. The player progresses through the stage at a very slow and leisurely pace. As one goes through the stage one will be hit with a sense of nostalgia that is common among older gamers. Items such as the flag pole and places such as the fort can be seen in the background but don't actually interfere with the stage. The layout of the bricks from the stage does seem to affect how one moves around on stage. While not exactly tournament friendly, it still adds a nice touch to the stages we are already familiar and also breaks away from the retro kick by introducing the aging of the stage.

It's interesting to note that Sakurai mentions that occasionally a different level will load which is reminiscent of World 1-2 from Super Mario Bros. With ideas like this who is to say we might not see other scrolling nostalgic stages such as ones from Link's Adventure, Metroid or other well known side-scrollers?

Im wondering how exactly the bounderings will work for this stage.

oh well can't wait ......also that is a weird pic of ike or bad freeze frame oh well

At first I thought the desert look was kinda lame.

But I think its actually a pretty interesting take on the original SMB.

I wonder if it'll be tourney banned?

The real question is can you access the "secret" warp pipes at the end of the World 1-2 part of it? That would be so epic.

I love it. It's amazingly beautiful. But, at the same time, it's kind of sad to think of how aged precious childhood memories are to by lying in ruin.

I think that's a really neat idea. And it sometimes turns into 1-2, the underground stage.

Kirby Tag stage FTW!!!

Also, the backround is so freakin' good looking.

Good thinking of hiring that Michelangelo of yours Sakurai!

would that fact that you can't choose which stage you play on affect it's chances of being tournament legal?

The music to the stage is amazing. Put a smile on my face right away. I can't wait to play that map not just because it looks cool, but also because the tune sounds great.

If the turning to ruins is what's happening to the Old Mushroom Kingdom, I'd hate to think of what's happening to the Old Subcon!
nothing. Subcon doesn't really exist. It's a dream world :p

anyway, I really like the style of this stage. It has an awesome post-apocalyptic-y feel, like hokuto no ken. I also really liked the first mario bros, so I suppose I'll love this stage. but I probably wont use it in competitive matches though.

I think he block are destructable, so that bowser can fit and stuff.

And the music is great! It's very different, though it may not match the setting that well...

Nice new (or old) stage! I like it. That change to 1-2 is a little strange though. I'd hope that it changes if you're at the finish of level 1-1, but I guess not... well, it's still nice and they try to use side scrolling for a stage... something new for smash, pretty amazing :) and I like the music too, but it could've been a little better...

A place where no one cares about brawl but me
like it a lot, but i wish you could choose which stage you wanted (1-1 or 1-2) and i wish you could have the option to make the stage beautiful again, don't get me wrong the rust is cool and all i just like the natural beauty that was mushroom kingdom!

Also why is this news not updating on some updates can anyone answer that, this never happened with the blog :(

I thought it was an SSE stage before reading the "tournament friendly" part. A strange stage.

Very stylish, and very cool. It would have been even nicer if 1-1 progressed directly into 1-2, but I suppose it ain't Smash without a few elements of randomness. :p

Also, Kondo is awesome, as per usual.

Hey wait a sec, theres no other people in the first pic! Where is everyone? How could that be? Maybe some kinda event match where you go through it as mario for nostalgia reasons.
