Hi everyone!

I was looking around for an MLB thread but I can't find any. If there is one and I may have missed it could you point me in the right direction?

Anyway, I'm a huge baseball fan and love talking/playing baseball. Are there any fellow baseball fanatics here??

Feel free to talk about anything you want! Favorite teams, players, recent trades, predictions, anything!

Oh snap BoomToon, I cant really see myself fraternizing with the enemy :p (kidding! you Tigers fans have a lot of passion and our teams are great rivals!!)

Hoping we dont trade off Masterson at the moment. I think this will be a good year for the Tribe though. Tito is a great manager and I can only see good things happen from here

That we are! haha

My own brother is an Indians fan and I haven't ripped him apart yet so I think we'll be good! ha :p

I think it'd be good for you guys to keep Masterson too. I know he can be sort of streaky but I'm feeling he's bound to have a real breakthrough soon. My brother has this love/hate relationship with him though, it's kind of funny.

I'm hoping we can have a good year as well. Kind of worried about Cabrera losing Fielder as protection, but I think Kinsler is gonna help us out greatly. Just hoping this year doesn't turn into a huge walkfest for Miggy.

Dodgers all day, we finally on the up and up and things are booming.

I don't want them trading kemp though, unless its for something big, but even so I don't want to see him gone. Rather them trade either.

You're in luck...I read today that Kemps agent said they have no intention of trading him...so hopefully that holds true. I think eithier has to go...you guys have a full outfield so I think you could get something you actually need for him.

Cool, looks like we just add some relievers, and maybe some utility guys to come off the bench. And were all set to go. Because I think were keeping ellis and uribe, as much as i'd like to go after someone, I'd think someone from the farm (corey seager) would replace one of them in the future.

I think were gonna win it all this year.

And tigers..... Y u no beat the giants in the WS last time you got there? lol jk

GL to you guys, I hear the AL central is starting to shape up with the Indians and possibly royals getting better.

AHH! Don't remind me. It's one thing to lose the world series, but it's another to get swept haha.

I think you guys definitely have a good chance this year. Interested to see how Puig will do in his first full season.

ugh, i know that feel. we released Perez a few months back....so our relief pitching is looking spotty as well (because DANG Perez just tanked this season)

At least you have one of the most solid rotations in the league. Never hurts haha

Let me re-ignite the REAL and ORIGINAL MLB thread(someone made a new one)... what are y'alls thoughts on the whole A-Ro(i)d situation? Personally I say good riddance... not trying to start a debate.

I'm glad the MLB is cracking down harder. However it's kind of upsetting to think that he could potentially be able to play in the playoffs this year if the Yanks make it. Instead of 162 games it prob should be the whole 2014 season. That's just my personal opinion though.

Nice, an MLB thread. It appears I'm the 2nd Tigers fan on the thread. I've been a Detroit Tigers fan since 1996. I never thought I would see the day that they would be good....until 2006 that is. Now Detroit is almost a regular team in the post-season. I'm not sure how much longer that is going to last with Leyland gone as manager and a strong American League (Red Sox, Athletics, Indians, Rangers, Rays, Yankees, Orioles, maybe Royals) contending for playoff spots, but it has been a nice ride.

Yeah, I'm glad A-Rod got hit hard with the suspension. I hope it happens to more players as well who do the same thing.

Anyways, the 2014 MLB season will be amazing to watch. I wonder which pitcher will throw the first perfect game of the season? It seems to happen every year. Hopefully Yu Darvish gets another crack at it, but I applaud any pitcher that accomplishes this amazing task.

Oh man, 1st perfect game will be a sight to behold

doubt itll be a cleveland player, but masterson returning after an injury and doing something crazy would be a cinderella story

that is, if we can agree on a salary for him. hes asking 11mil
kind of hoping he gets it.....despite being on the DL for a good chunk of last year, he came into the final stretch of the season and the offseason strong as a closer/relief pitcher when we needed a closer the most. hes a talented dude, and I feel as though keeping him around would be great. wondering if ubaldo will also re-sign, since Mickey Callaway has done wonders for him as a pitching coach.

i am really happy to see a re-sign of giambi as well, believe it or not. he is a clutch player and a good guy to have on the bench to motivate the younger guys. he is definitely manager material, and i think it could be possible that Tito is grooming him for that, or at least an Indians job.

man, what a team.

Cleveland is definitely going to be a good team to watch this season. I was impressed with how the Indians snagged the 4th seed in the playoffs last season. I believe going into August the Indians were not looking the greatest, but just hanging into the playoff race and then all of a sudden they got hot. That team did not throw in the towel or fold like they did for a couple of seasons toward the end of the year. A lot of that has to be on Terry Francona. He definitely deserved Manager of the Year, although the Pirates GM could have won it as well.

Unfortunately the Indians became a victim of that dumb 1 game playoff implementation. I hate that new Wildcard rule because all these MLB teams play 162 games. That is a very long season, and for it to come down to 1 game when in the past the 4 seed would at least get 3 in the playoffs is really lame. I wish the playoff system would just go back to 4 teams in each League, but with an addition of the opening round being a best of seven as oppose to 5. I know the new system gives more teams a chance to compete in the post-season, but my opinion is it just potentially punishes the 4 seed for playing better in the regular season. There will definitely be a 4 seed one year that is 10+ games above the 5 seed and then unfortunately get hosed by the one team playoff. Like I said before, 162 games during a long season to come down to 1 is ridiculous. There, now I'm off my soapbox lol.

Very cool to see a fellow Tigers fan here SharkAttack! I'm very excited to see how this season plays out. I really do think were gonna have a tough division this year. Btw how do you feel about the Kinsler/Prince trade. Interested to see how a fellow Detroit fan feels about it!

P.S. For anyone interested, I'm a huge fantasy baseball nut. Thought it might be fun to get together a Smashboards fantasy baseball league for anyone interested!

Yeah, we got hurt by that pretty bad : / especially since perez blew up in the last few weeks, so we lost a closer and had to scramble the team around
itll be more controlled this year

BoomToon, that sounds fun : O

I think the trade was an alright move. With Kinsler the Tigers will get more speed on the bases, which is desperately needed. Kinsler likely won't hit as well as Fielder did, but I have confidence Kinsler will hit well at the plate. Detroit already has Cabrera and V Mart to drive in runs, so it is not like the Tigers don't have a power hitter. It will be interesting.
I know Prince Fielder struggled in the post-season to get on base, but at least Fielder would put the ball in play as oppose to striking out. It had to be frustrating for Prince to constantly be hitting groundouts. Overall, it is a bummer to see Fielder go, but I don't think it was a horrendous trade.

I likely won't take part in the fantasy baseball. I did it in either 2011 or 2012 on Yahoo, and I could not figure out how it worked. It was just an awkward system to me. I'm not blaming Yahoo for my inability to figure it out, but I just could not trade players, or sign and release them the way Yahoo had it set up. I was in the cellar all season, even with King Felix's perfect game in August that year.

This is exactly my thought on the matter too. I think Kinsler will be a great addition to the team IF he can stay healthy. I don't know that he could be the 30/30 guy he once was but I think he still has alot to offer. The only thing that I'm truly worried about is the protection of Cabrera. Vmart is getting up there in age and i don't see Kinsler being enough either. I'm seriously hoping it wont be a walkfest for Miggy. I am somewhat optimistic though as I think we still have a all over good lineup! Very excited to see how Castellanos will do this year too!

Also Tanaka is a Yankee! What do you guys expect from him this year?

Im not too surprised at Tanaka's decision. Yankees will always seem to have the most money to give. im wondering if his skills will transfer leagues, because sometimes we see a great japanese player not live up to expectations for whatever reason in the US (honestly, its difficult changing freaking leagues)

Indians got the news that Grady Sizemore is a Boston boy now.

.....Im just wondering if he is still injured or not.....i havent seen him play for a while now

I'm excited for this new season, can't wait until my dodgers get the show underway. Hopefully there's no injuries this time.

Oh and Tanaka.... well would have liked him, but its fine, the yankees are still in a mess. And A-rod isn't helping heh.

Counting down the days until spring training begins.

I hope they implode again this year. I love a good season where the yanks arent the forerunners

Doesn't seem likely that the Dodgers will be consistent. I mean, when they're good, they're pretty freakin' good, but like Lokii above me said, injuries are a big issue.

From a NE resident, I'd like to see the Yankees burn this year too. It's a lot more interesting when the typical forerunners are replaced by the atypical (like the Sox & Pirates last year).

You never answered what you were feeding her..... the hell man if that's what i think it is.....

Anyway as long as the team is healthy we'll get in it. Though the diamondbacks are always a wild card. screw the giants, hope they stay in the mud.

I would like to see the bucos emerge again, I don't want it to be a one time thing, their fans were crazy. I loved watching their playoff run.

Eff the cardinals.

It's potatoes, dood. \(o.o)/ Also, that's not me.

Diamondbacks are actually even less consistent (they've been on-off for a while). They might do well. Also, I agree with you. Giants can suck a hot dog.

Me too. It was pretty hype.

Have to agree with that.

Hey Fonz!

I wish your angels the best this year! But you're right, you guys def need Pujols and Hamilton (especially) to get it back together. Hamilton was just swinging at everything thrown at him! haha :p I'm sure he'll turn it around though. He's done amazing things before and I don't doubt he'll do it again!

As far as Kinsler goes, I'm pretty happy. I mean I love Prince and it sucks to see him go, but Kinsler will help the team out in ways Prince wasn't able to. I've always liked Kinsler, good hitter, decent fielder, and can run. However, I don't think he's the Ian Kinsler of a few years ago. I don't know if he's still capable of being a 30/30 guy again. I'm trying to stay optimistic that he'll stay healthy here in Detroit, cause I think he'll be a fine addition even if he can't be the 30/30 guy I fore mentioned. That being said, I think we have a much different team this year. Definitely got more speed than power this time around.

All I can say is that Detroit and the rest of the Central better watch out! I think KC is for real this time.

You couldn't be more right! This is going to be a tight division this year and I can't wait to see how it plays out. You guys made some good moves this offseason and I think Hosmer is going to turn into a beast in the coming years.

The moves we made, while obviously not Tanaka-caliber, were still really good. Aoki and Infante are both very solid players, and are definitely improvements to what we had before. Vargas is pretty decent as well, and we needed a starting pitcher (since I wouldn't feel comfortable starting both Duffy and Ventura right away), and then to re-sign Chen...such an awesome move. I'd have hated to see him go.

Really just hope Moose steps up his game. And even Butler, while he didn't do awful at all last year, he could've done better. Just enough to get them over the hump. I think the inclusion of our new guys will help that a lot, honestly.

I know it doesn't compare to the AL East (but srsly wtf are the O's doing?) but the Central will definitely be a fun, tight race to watch all year!
