There are no copyright issues with the Miis at all, they've been able to use them in countless online games, including as recently as Mario Kart 8. Heck, I was driving against Iron Man just yesterday.

The problem remains that this is a Nintendo All-Stars game, going online and facing off against tons of random Johns takes that aspect away from the online mode. For this exact reason I'm grateful that they aren't allowed online, otherwise I'd easily have labelled them the worst inclusion in Smash history. As is they're just okay.

I really would only have had a problem with them online if people used Hitler Miis, which seemed tobe a lot of people's concerns.
Fighting random Johns doesn't bother me because I just see them as a Mii, not the character they're trying to show.
But to each his own I guess

Judging from the website it seems it's only the 3DS version that's available, so neither will happen.
Well that sucks. Not that I don't thoroughly enjoy the 3DS version, but if it's just that, I would've hoped for more international events, as well.

The biggest reason Mii Fighters aren't used in With Anyone mode is in order to avoid copyright issues with any characters outside of the realm of Nintendo. It really doesn't have anything to do with gameplay.

I don't see what the big problem with Miis is. They have always been customizable, and that isn't changing in Smash Bros. Brawler, Swordfighter, Gunner. You can customize their fighting types. May be a little surprising, but expected. Their height and weight affect characteristics. Not surprising at all. Customizing special moves. With the new customizing characters mechanic, this shouldn't come off as surprising to anyone.

I also don't understand how them not being available against anyone makes them a waste. Smash is played across the world with friends locally, so this isn't a waste at all. Many people will be creating crazy Miis to play against their friends locally. Sakurai has effectively transferred the deeply customizable personality of Miis into Smash Bros. Just because their moves can be customized more doesn't they're getting more attention.

Some of you really need to chill.
You know, I was/still largely am wholly against Miis being in Smash, but I agree with this post. The other crazy thing is, you also see people complaining that some of their attacks seem to be copied from other fighters - because it's such a shame that one "character" didn't get 3 wholly unique movesets, each with 3 variations of each special, all to themselves? Damn you, Sakurai! We want every attack to be totally new, and for them to have taken up no development time!

I don't know, I was bummed about them at first, but they do admittedly look fun to play as... still don't like the idea of them being in Smash to begin with, but since they're already in, I figure I might as well accept it. And their being so widely customizable while using variations of other characters' moves really seems like the best of both worlds, to me. And the different weight classes is just something plenty of people saw coming. So, yeah, I see little reason to get upset about it.

As for all of the "banned!" talk... I mean... what if they are all right around the middle of the tier list? Or what if they all are lower tier? People just seem to be jumping on the train of thought that... what... tournament organizers won't want to have to deal with customization? We don't know how good they'll be until we play them. Just because they have a lot of moves to choose from doesn't guarantee they'll be broken. You people seem to be jumping the gun just a bit.

I think I expended all my Mii hatred in Mario Kart. I never really hated them so much as I disliked how they were shoved down our throats.

I think of them now as "not as terrible as they could've been" and I guess cool for things like putting my FILS-A-MECH/Sakurai Mii's to good use.

Yeah, I don't get why people are still arguing about why Miis are banned from With Anyone, or acting so shocked by it... Nintendo has always treated their online modes with kiddy gloves. They assume the tiniest of babies are playing all of their online modes. They need to protect the childins' fragile minds and preemptively squash the outrage of uptight mothers. Therefor, surprise surprise, no Hitler/Penis/Satan Miis allowed in anonymous online matches. Is it really that hard to figure out? XD

The prospect of fighting random Johns does bore me, though, so I am kind of glad they're blocked in anonymous matches, personally :p

I think its been proven that babies develop far better when playing smash bros. Its a proven statistic. Nintendo knows this and doesn't want inappropriate behavior to interfere with them.

Good guy Nintendo, always looking out for the babies, even in their fighting games! Now let's go beat up some women, children and animals as everyone's favorite Italian plumber! :awesome:

...Well, they try, at least :p

Well, they could go the route of Capcom and say the woman are really transgendered. (Poison, that's what they literally said to avoid having the character beating up woman)

Maybe the kids are actually *******

So has anyone seen Sakurai's Japanese account post? This only applies to Japan only though. It's an event to play games and such.

"ところで! 6月28日(土)、29日(日)次世代ワールドホビーフェア'14において、『スマブラ』が日本国内初出展されますよ。 くわしくは、こちら↓ http://www.nintendo.co.jp/event/whf2014summer/index.html"

Both versions will be at Japan Expo in Paris I just found out on 4th-5th July, so perhaps we'll see some more of those stages there. I imagine that they'd at least have versions with French language, thus it could possibly be another build than the Best Buy/E3 demos.

I really didn't want Mii's in my Smash universe, cuz Nintendo games, non-generic, etc.

However, after the reveal, Godurai actually pulled it off. The fact that it's local or for friends only really makes it okay. And they actually look good (for what they are LMAohboy).

So, I kinda do like to see myself, customize my playstyle and whoop butt

It could be the same demo, but with French translated text instead of English.

Anyway, with this and a demo of the 3DS version in Japan, we'll get more footage, which is good.

Of course, and I do consider that the most likely scenario too. I don't think it's impossible we get a new demo either though, the Brawl E for All demo and the Japanese store demos that came some time later were very different, granted there was a much bigger gap between those two than there is between the E3 demo and the upcoming ones.

There was a significantly bigger time gap between the E for All Brawl demo and the Japanese Brawl demo. This is merely a difference of around two weeks, while Brawl has an around 2 month difference if I recall correctly.

Still, it could happen to be a different demo considering no translation/localization is necessary in this case. They had to prepare the E3 demo beforehand (thus meaning an earlier build) since they had to translate the game and dub some of the characters' voices.

Would it be possible to allow Miis in tournaments if they were only the default height/weight with maybe a preset set of specials? I dunno I just wanna see the most ridiculous people participate in tournaments, like Billy Mays or something. :4pacman:

Gamexplain will inevitably talk about their own ideas of what they think should be in Smash anyways. They always do regardless of the pics.

Miis, the ultimate casual character. I can't say that this development was surprising. I kind of figured when they showed that the Miis could be different heights and weights that they would be a ton of different possibilities that could be made. I suppose the competitive community could work together to come up with three standard sets for the Brawler, Sword Fighter, and Gunner. For example, we could try to come up with a standard Reggie set that could be used in tournaments, that is of course, if enough people don't think that would be a hassle.

Today's pic was pretty interesting once we got the caption. I'm not sure why people start screaming "filler" on almost every update that isn't a new character or stage before the caption is up. I'm hoping the height/weight customization will be limited to Small, Medium, Tall and if weight is a factor Light, Medium, Heavy rather than having too many combos.

However, I don't like that there's already talk of banning Miis from tournaments when we don't really know how extensive the customization will be. I think an easy solution would be to set a default of Medium height and weight for tournaments early in the lifecycle and then open additional customization or consider changing the default down the road, since there likely will be some combination of height and weight that works better in most situations (likely one that sacrifices some power for speed, but that's just pure speculation on my part).

I will admit that I find the news about getting more gaming footage this weekend and in July to be a bit more exciting than today's PotD.

Do the speeds and weights of the characters make it that much of a problem? I believe that you can carry Mii's on a Wii-remote so you could just bring one with you, put it on the Wii U and just play as it.

You guys keep talking about Mii Fighters being banned...

But what if there are tournaments where you can only use a Mii Fighter? :awesome:

I'll leave now.

We can finally find out who was the best president

Lincoln obviously is a sword user, because he was a vampire hunter

and Nixon obviously is a gunner, because he's a head in a jar, so his body is fully robotic

And Teddy would be a brawler, because he boxed a bear into submission

These would be some great tournies

So no spammy bird and instead the Miis. Heck, I'll accept it. Sucks that the Miis can't be used online and another problem (especially for lazy ol' me here) is that all of this customization is a bit...overwhelming. I play Smash to fight either with my cousin or people online or the AI every now and then but now if I wanna use Mii's I gotta make a Mii a specific size in Mii Maker, gotta choose either Fighter, Sword, or Gunner and gotta choose all of my specials and after all of that, if I don't like the Mii I gotta go back to customizing again and again and again. On the other hand I could just ignore the Miis and hop right into the fun of a match with a character I know I like right off the bat.

tl;dr There might be too much customization for the Miis that could keep people away from using them. Oh, and this is a better update than shdlcg Falco imo.

Imma' stop you right there and say FALSE because of the Mario Kart 8 principle. Yeah I'm applying it ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

I'm guessing it's the same people that think anything that isn't a character is filler.
Of course. What would be a obessesive fan forum without constant complaining about weird things that 80% of the fanbase outside of it wouldn't even bother to notice?

You don't have to ban Mii Fighters. Just use default everything. Medium size and default moves. You can still make a silly face or whatever, but that's 3 movesets you could use fairly in tourneys I think. I mean, I'm not ganna go out of my way to fight for tourney miis cause they seem like a fun little side thing with friends and I dont care too much about them, but more options means more variety and more variety means more awesome matches to watch so... As long as you leave Miis on the default size and moves they should be totally viable.
