With the 4th and final month of the Summer season in Midland Smash, comes an idea adopted from MLG. We will have FOUR top 8 brackets following up Round Robins, one per week over the next 4 weeks, and a Championship bracket (8 players) at the end of the month. Winners of each bracket are guaranteed a spot in the championship bracket, but can not play in a qualifier bracket once they have already qualified. 4 spots in the bracket will be determined by these qualifier brackets, and the remaining 4 spots will be earned in a pre-championship qualifying bracket the day of the championship. To restate this, 4 qualifying players, plus 4 players who qualify the day of by placing in the top 4 of what we are calling the open bracket. Dates and locations are below.

Matches in the open bracket can be streamed if there is time. All winners side matches of the Championship (final top 8) and losers finals will be streamed.

General Rules

Game Settings: 4 Stocks, 8 Minute Time Limit, Best of 3 Games. Finals are Best of 5.
Items are disabled.
All chain grabs and infinites are legal
Stalling with moves such as Jigglypuff's Rising Pound or Peach's Wall Bomber is banned
Glitches such as Ice Climbers’s Freeze Glitch and Mewtwo’s Soul Stunner are banned.
Pause option is disabled in the game menu. If left on, accidental pausing mid match forfeits a stock.
You may not choose the last stage you have won on during a set, unless agreed by both players.
If time runs outs, the tie is determined by most stocks, and then if still tied, by percentage. If percentage is tied, the match is fully replayed.
Playing as Master Hand is banned

Doubles Rules

Sharing stocks is allowed
Accidentally pausing while taking a stock forfeits that taken stock

Match Procedure
- Players select their characters. Either player may choose to Blind Pick. In this case, each player secretly tells a third player their character before picking with the third player verifying their selections.
- Players play Rock-Paper-Scissors. Winner chooses between selecting controller port or first Stage Strike
- Players take turns removing stages from the Neutral Stages list above based upon the results of the previous rule. The first player to strike removes one(1) stage from the list, the second player removes two(2), and the first player then chooses from the remaining two(2) stages.
- The players play the first match of the set
- Winning player of the preceding match bans a stage from the full list of stages, both Neutral and Counter-Pick. Does not apply to Best of 5 sets.
- The Losing player of the preceding match picks a stage for the next match. Cannot choose the stage banned in the previous step, nor a stage they've already won on during this set, unless agreed.
- The winning player of the preceding match may choose to change characters.
- The losing player of the preceding match may choose to change characters.
- The losing player of the preceding match may change their controller port.
- The next match is played
- Repeat Steps 5 through 10 for all subsequent matches until the set is complete.

Generally we use the same rules as the tournament scene, but sometimes....

Stages: FD, Battlefield, Corneria, PS, Rainbow Cruise, FoD, Yoshi's Story, Poke Floats, Dreamland, Great Bay, Peach's Castle, Kongo Jungle 64, Kongo Jungle Melee (the one with the "Eddie Rock"), Jungle Japes, Brinstar, Mute City. (Basically, you have to be good at the game)

Advanced Slob Picks. If you don't understand, basically it is what happens now in competitive smash counterpicks. (Often times, loser just picks a stage)

Other Special Rules:
While in Midland, please use Midland's terminology for the things that happen in smash.
If you get hit by a "Falcon Punch" in a 1vs1, you automatically lose and must quit out.
To get recognized, beat people at smashfests and win games in the Midland Round Robins.
NO CROSSING BETWEEN A PLAYER AND THE TV if it is a Tournament game, Round Robin game, or Money Match.
YOU MAY CROSS IN FRONT IF - it is a friendly game and you AUDIBLY say "No johns" right before crossing the vision of the player(s)
At times, there may be a "When you lose a stock, drink." rule put in place. This usually comes with a notice.
Money Matching? Money goes ON TOP OF THE CONSOLE until match is complete. No money on the console means someone can pass in front saying "No Johns" and you can't be mad.

Midland Terminology:
Gabe Guard = Ledge Hog
Viper = A pretty viper awesome word
Side Dodge = Spot Dodge
Haney = Wait for opponent to roll around you while you are invincible, Fsmash them
BBE = Best Bowser Ever - My occasional win streak with Bowser
Chink = Clank
Amazing Punch = Captain Falcon's Raptor Boost
Amazing Grab = Grabbing CF while he "amazing punches" at you
Marty Edgeguard = Edgeguard with Up Smash
BITG = BACK IN THE GAME (Pretty much any big moment to tie up the game from behind)
ITFC = When Marty couldn't L cancel, he would IN THE FACE CANCEL
Miked = What you did when you used Fox/Falco's illusion off the edge of the stage
NOICE SPOIKE = Nice Spike
The Big Guns = Bill's "9's" with GnW
Midland Style = Close game, SD on last stock
The Acro Killer = Bair from the spawn platform, connecting for quick and easy revenge
Bowser Dash = Bowser's extended sticky walk
The Kicks of Stupidity = Using Fox/Falco's F-air off the edge of the stage
The Fire Edgeguard = Bowser's Neutral B as an edgeguard (pretty much until there is just fumes)
Shibby Walk = Why is everyone always running? Walk around and tilt or grab
Myth = Tier List (According to myth, Fox is the best character in this game)
LSD = Leg Sweep Destruction (Samus's Dsmash)
Quad Laser = 2 vs 1 infinate with one player grabbing and pummeling and the other jabbing (2 player wobbling?)
Coconuts = Luigi's dash attack
Super Martial Arts Kick = Fox's utilt
Super Fire Up Punch = Luigi's strong Up B
