So, Metroid: Other M, or MOM, is the next scheduled release in the Metroid Series. It was shown at E3 2009 and the production team IS Nintendo in conjunction with Team Ninja, i.e. the creators of the famed Ninja Gaiden series. This topic is for pure discussion and speculation on plot and storyline, as well as timeline placement.

Edit: It was confirmed that the timeline placement is between Super Metroid (Metroid 3) and Metroid Fusion (Metroid 4).

With that being said, there are a lot of unanswered questions. Things like:

-What's with the 3D Metroid Zero Mission suit?
-What's up with the commander saying "Any objections, Lady?" as an obvious reference to being Adam (source from Metroid 4).
-Why the hell does it look like Ninja Gaiden with a gun?
-Samus talks. 'nuff said.
-Was that the Mother Brain shooting that gigantic blast at Samus? Or some other boss? Maybe an Aurora Unit?

Also, Samus jumping around and wringing necks as she blasts charged shots into faces is ridiculously hot.

Many have speculated that it's a flashback to an earlier point. My own suspicion is that it dates back to the interim between Zero Mission and events occurring in the related manga. I'm pretty sure it's Mother Brain. The bit is from a prerendered cutscene, as evidenced by the highly detailed graphics. So perhaps it is a flashback to Super Metroid.

My unanswered question is why are we supposed to remember the remember me guy?

Yeah, I'm not sure, either... I mean, she always has slightly different variations on suits... but this was interesting...

I don't keep up with the manga... It's definitely Adam, the main question is whether it's a flashback, or a current thing. I would guess that he'll play a bit of a part in the game (rather than it just being another flashback) basically because why would we need even more backstory with him? Fusion, I think, handled the back story pretty well, and now, I am guessing that we will be able to play it more... with him actually giving orders... just my two cents, though

ooh ooh, I know this one (and it's why I posted, really). As with Fusion, they are going through this scene again. Samus saved the baby Metroid in Return of Samus. In Metroid 3 (Super), the baby is freaking huge, and almost kills Samus, but then has a "oh wait" moment... And later on, it gives Mother Brain's powers to Samus... and then Mother Brain shoots and kills it, and Samus goes crazy on Mother Brain, and the galaxy is saved, etc... This is all backstory, and at least most of us should know it. A smaller point that Fusion brought in was that the baby metroid's DNA allowed Samus to deal with the X parasite... thus, the thing saved her twice... (Fusion did quite well with story telling, imo)

Anyways... in the scene with mother Brain (yeah, it's her definitely), it's obviously a cutscene, and you can actually see that she is blasting above samus... and if you look closer, you can see that she's blasting a metroid... I can only assume here that this is simply another flashback (for story purposes...probably setting up Fusion better) of the same event, where the baby metroid helps Samus against Mother Brain.

The "remember me" guy has been driving me crazy, yeah... I can't figure out where he falls in so that they would consider him that important to put a lame scene in the trailer...
I know the Prime series had real humans at times... but I can't seem to place him. : /

There's some speculation that he's Sylux from hunters...but I really don't know here.

And I don't remember any of them being black.

And if it WAS Sylux, I don't think he'd be that happy to see Samus.

I'm just trying to run across any voice... or even another important soldier character from the series, really.. to see if he's actually got any real history here...

in a recent interview, one of the game creators confirmed that the girl at the end of the trailer is "not Samus, but a very, very important character" and that the remember me guy is one of Adam's soldiers...

If he seriously is just a new character, I can't understand why they would make such a big deal in the first freakin trailer of the game.. that wasn't necessary. Maybe to drive people like me crazy.

That's what I'm saying... either way you look at it, the notable soldier characters pretty much all died prior to this game in the storyline...

I honestly think they just invented this guy for this game...Either that or in the manga...which I haven't read, so I wouldn't know that....seems like somebody would have known that by now, though... The "remember me" line is probably just put there, as said before, to draw attention from those of us who went... "wait...huh?"
