Is this where I come for video critiquing? Cause I got a match recorded recently and was wondering what people can say about it. I haven't been playing Smash 4 seriously for very long and I noticed that my movement was quite slow, as well as some of the options I picked were kind of dumb. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQe2fp9_pHg
You hover in the air a fair bit (especially at the beginning) which you usually don't want to do, MK is much better and more threatening grounded. Especially against characters like Link who have way better aerials.

You need to not hesitate and take hard punish opportunities when you can. Any punish is better than none so don't be afraid to go ham if they whiff an Up-B like at 0:40. There were a lot of chances for you to punish hard (eg. with Tornado) and you were too slow or panicked each time. I think this is part of the reason why they mashed you in the first game.

Usmash beats Link's Dair when timed right, and if it doesn't it has so much endlag upon landing that you can just run away and dash back in for the punish when he's on the ground. If it looks like they're autocancelling it go for Usmash. In terms of the Link MU, once you've broken through his hitboxes stay on him and keep exerting pressure, don't let him breathe so he can set up a wall again.

Your Dairs OOS are pretty good. Something I'm working on implementing myself.

Not much you could have done about your first two deaths, Dthrow Uair is a real kill setup for Link and the Up-B going too high was unlucky platform positioning which they capitalised on well.

In terms of bad options:
  • Uairs > Tornado is a great way to pressure shields while they're on a platform. You did Uair and then retreating Fair which, while safe, isn't threatening really.
  • Don't ever approach with Drill Rush. It has some very niche uses but while you're learning the character I'd stick to using it as a recovery mixup and that's it.
Keep at it!

Here's another batch of recorded college tournament sets. Critique is welcome, as always. I got 1st here but even I can think of many places where I could've done much better.

Corvus:4metaknight::4drmario: vs BrownMan:4fox:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yz-uUIoLbJ8&index=5&list=PLJct413oYpdqisY5meEJoEbodFOO6fYBe
So I hate the Fox matchup. Tried it game 1, then decided to try my brand new pocket Doc out for game 2. Didn't quite work out but it was only my first try with him. Got my rematch later in loser's bracket, but didn't use MK so I don't see a point in posting it.

Corvus:4metaknight: vs ~_~:4dedede:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BouC9W_5D0s&list=PLJct413oYpdqisY5meEJoEbodFOO6fYBe&index=14
First time playing against a Dedede. What an irritating character. Figured out game 1 that killing him off the top was stupid so I had an easier game 2.

Corvus:4metaknight: vs Nuggetz:4falco:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bmjBRuYCqQ&index=16&list=PLJct413oYpdqisY5meEJoEbodFOO6fYBe
Played that good Falco again. Don't remember too much about this set except that I couldn't help but feel like he was off his game.

Corvus:4metaknight: vs TEEJ:4corrinf:
Set 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUHOx-DND2s&list=PLJct413oYpdqisY5meEJoEbodFOO6fYBe&index=17
Set 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4pOo3VmlBk&index=18&list=PLJct413oYpdqisY5meEJoEbodFOO6fYBe
Not the best of gameplay but whatever. This Corrin rarely uses Dragon Lunge and was really thirsty for smash attacks. This MU is pretty hard regardless, and it's not the first time I've played a Corrin. Take from it what you will.

Couple more sets from my college scene. This was from a PR Round Robin, so best of 5 sets with every other top 10 player. If only they all got recorded, but I actually only played MK in the 2 that did, so whatever.

Corvus:4metaknight: vs Toad:4pikachu:

My millionth set with this Pikachu. Nothing exemplary or exciting. I guess that describes my MK play in general :yeahboi:

Corvus:4metaknight::4dk: vs TEEJ:4mario::4ryu:

Should've won. Didn't. RIP.

Maybe I will get some sets from my local in NJ, or at some events. I plan on attending KTAR and Apex. Lord knows if I'll still be playing this character then. Here's hoping I guess.

From our weekly, myself vs. #1 in CT, Ling Ling. I think it's important to note that if your'e on a tear to not lose your focus and remain consistent throughout a set. The match set goes from being heavily in my favor to bustering out on game three. I think I've learned a lot from the set, maybe you can too!

Ling Ling is very good. I met him last weekend at Smashadelphia and he did some damage coming in second place to James. Going to game 3 with him is good work in itself. Glad you already learned from your mistakes, but the important part is to apply them next time!

The next week we got him in the Money Match since we didn't meet in bracket. I want to highlight how it's important to stay focused on the neutral game even when you've taken your first game (or two.) and maintain it. Games 3 and 4 I totally slop out and Ling completely destroys me for my missteps. Even though I took it in game 5 I feel like it was his game, but overall it shows that with perseverance you can still make it through, no matter how bad the deficit. Peach being a good MU for us helps with the comeback factor, but Ling being the monster he is shows you why you need to be smart. Enjoy!

I felt this deserved its own post, but I'm posting it here so frequenters will get pinged for it.

Hey guys, I'm a SB lurker here and I felt like my performance at this tournament is where my strengths and weaknesses truly shine. I believe this is where I come out of my shadows and introduce myself into the community. Lemme know what you think and I'll gladly respond! :)

But you already presented yourself a good while ago, what are you talking about? LOL
Also I can't analyze your matches right now, so leaving that to more experienced users.
