When starting the console, before the game starts, if you hold B the game will ask you to choose the format.

I tried this yesterday and it didn't work...

Maybe you actually need to have a component cable plugged in. Don't know if the GC can detect it, but if it can, then it's probably locked in the Wii too. The regular cables don't support 480p.

Link's boomerang cancel is confirmed to work in 1.0, and yes, an upB can be used afterward. The trick can also be used to cancel the zair's landing lag.

Another difference I just remembered.

When resetting a match, in PAL the match length shows -:- but in NTSC (some version) it says 00:00 or something.

...Pardon if I'm nitpicking too much, but for Bowser's info . . .

Down Throw is dependent on enemy weight, and does not hit Kirby or Game & Watch (All NTSC)

I'm not sure about NTSC 1.0 or 1.1, but in 1.2 Kirby is damaged by Bowser's dthrow, and Jigglypuff isn't.

There was talk about Peach being able to angle her up B more severely in 1.0 and 1.1 in comparison to 1.2 and PAL. This is not concrete enough to be included yet. Anyone else have any input?

in version 1.0 people can't SDI out of Pichu's Fsmash or Fox's drill or Zelda's Fsmash
and a few other moves as well (but I forget which ones)

Only multihit moves that do 1%. I think fox has two sets of hit boxes on dair. One that does 2% and one does 1%.

last i checked fox's dair was 3% and 4%, none that would be included in zelda fsmash/pichu fsmash's SDIability change.

Samus loses her neutral B charge if hit out of her up B in all NTSC versions. I'm sure it's in PAL as well.

That Ice Climbers freeze glitch works in 1.2. I've done it before, and my disc is definitely a 1.2 disk (it says "DOL-GALE-0-02" on the mirror band).

IIRC it was on the smash wiki or a really old list at some point. It's quite provably false, though.

I don't understand why nintendo didn't just make 1 version of melee. It's much less confusing and would have saved them time and money.

They had to pour some resources to fixing that nasty ICs Freeze Glitch to begin with, so why not right? Also the Melee development cycle was pretty hectic iirc, so I'm sure there were definitely things they wanted to address that they couldn't until later down the road.

By the way...

in NTSC 1.0, "No Contest" shows the "loser's" time as 0:00. I know it's changed in NTSC 1.2 and PAL to -:--, but no idea on NTSC 1.1.

Did Samus receive a fix similar to DK to not lose her B charge from being hit out of UpB in PAL?

According to this page, Luigi's Nair and Peach's dash attack are less powerful in PAL. Fox's Fair apparently has more range in PAL as well.
