Wow.. I'm looking back at my metric ***load of a post and I just noticed how much of a n00b I sounded like. lawl

Man, you guys have no idea how pumped I am now! Been practicing L-cancelling w/ Boozer and have gotten proficient at it. I'm now gonna try to move onto Fox, whose evidence of successful LCs can be determined through a faster shine afterwards, no?

My right thumb is getting slightly blistered... is this normal? I think I'm putting too much pressure on it since I'm not fluent with the timing; may be second-guessing myself.

And Fly, thanks for the contribution. I can see how that would help more than mimicking others, since they're in far too many different spacing situations. I assume spacing's what I'll be learning by watching vids?

Am I to take the IC comment as a warning? Haha

Dude. Just.... DUDE. These youtube videos have me hooked! I was looking up some tech skill vids when I came across THIS! The best part is, this looks amazing even though I know I can't fully appreciate it! I've spent the past few hours studying that tech skill thread, so I can tell just by the difficulty of waveshining, ledge cancelling (with Fox having low aerial horizontal movement as it is), and the frame-perfect timing of the multishine that this dude is hella good! On top of all this, I've located The Everything Thread, making this the highest level of mindf***. :psycho:

The only form of techskill I was introduced to before I found smashboards was WDing (I'm already getting used to these abbreviations!), which I already have a knack for; specifically with Luigi, who has the most noticeable one.

So L-cancelling cuts your lagtime in half? Aerial landing lag for ICs include 8 frames, etc. I don't see how 2/15ths of a second is going to make that much of a difference during gameplay... I mean, with BOWSER (who I've been practicing it with) seriously needs it, but other than that... Someone want to enlighten me on this?

You might think from that tech skill vid that I might have some high incentive to play Fox, which I do, but I've been looking at the IC boards and desyncing and chaingrabbing look INSANE! Two characters FTW! So, I'm maining ICs, and I might look for a secondary later when I know what matchups IC have problems with that I can counter with specific char.'s.

Yeah, I lose all the time as it is, but now I'm pretty sure I already know more than my cousin! I understand that in a tournament--and whenever you feel the urge, really--is when you should play to win. But mindset (I'm pretty sure) in this game is important. I've looked at Snips thread on Sandbagging and I've learned what it actually means to lose. I'm competitive and very patient, so this shouldn't be an issue.

Thank you sooooo much for your help, MTKO! I now know how to leave my cousin in the dust with all of this applicable info. From tourney videos on youtube, I can tell we have lots to learn, seeing how fast they move and assuming they apply all the advanced techs. And HMW is friggin HILARIOUS, imo!

I might even post some vids so I can have others analyze my playstyle. ^-^ Thanks again!
Glad I could help out. You should check out this post: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=295524

It's a long read, but just focus on one section at a time to practice one. It has tons of useful information about the aspects of smash and how they are important, as well as how to understand them better and improve upon them. Highly recommend you give it a look.

And good job on picking the Ice Climbers, not a lot of people play them (only one guy plays them from my group) and they're a really unique character compared to the others.

And yes, when the shine comes out really fast after your aerial with fox, you know you're l-cancelling. Going in Training mode and slowing the speed down to figure out roughly at what time to l-cancel may help as well. But some people get messed up afterwards because they work on it in slow speed in training more and then when they do it full speed they get messed up.

It's just a nice way of seeing how everything is actually put to use. In any guide to the Melee ATs, you'll hear some nice little blurbs about how each technique is used, but it's always a pretty simple description that might not give you a good sense of how each technique is used and how everything fits together in the grand scheme of things.

Possible internship in CT and hopefully, eventually move to Michigan for graduate school.

I'm scared things will turn out bad but tryin to be positive bout things xD

Yeah the full hop double hop Fox was really weird to watch.
Idk, Masashi made Fox work without short hopping or wavedashing, buuut...

It's a long video though, and I haven't seen it all yet.

Cho's Ganon is a bit slow but he seems like he knows his stuff somewhat. It's pretty hard to impress me when someone else plays Ganon. =P Though seeing it live would be another story.

And to give a bonus, here is Twin1's awesome Newrounds game for today. I have played this one quite a bit and it gets very addicting.

I love that game!
Lol fun story. An old girlfriend of mine (probably about 7 years ago) saw some strategy guides at a yard sale. She knew I liked games so she bought them for about a dollar each. The three strategy guides are for Super Mario World, Super Mario All Stars and Donkey Kong Country.
All 3 are the original strategy guides haha.
