That's like being nice to someone because they dropped their weapon. They'll never learn that way.
Lol i was training my friend the other day (in sparring) and he asked why I kept hitting him lightly on the sides. I told him that he'll never learn to guard his sides if he doesn't take the hit and also if I hit him as hard as I could, he'd piss blood :D

yeah i never really make those gentlemanly gestures even if it seems sportsmanlike

if it's friendly, i wanna stay on the tv

if it's tournament, i'll take the win

if it's friendlies at home with a friend, i wanna talk trash
Hahahaha how true.

Thanks tw1n. :D yeah I definitely want to beef up my knowledge of melee, speaking of, which thread, I lologize in advance, would I see stage details? Height, width, what characters benefit, and what not?

Pick fox, training mode, play with percents, find out what percents an upsmash kills, a forward smash kills from center of the stage / edges.

I don't think there's a single thread(what i mean is, you'll be looking around a lot in many different ones) with what you're looking for, so you'll have to hope someone with the actual knowledge comes along.

Some stages may be slightly wider or just as wide but have lower ceilings, and vise versa, in general I like to think of stage size in this order, but it's definitely not precise:

smallest to large
Yoshi's -> Battlefield -> Fountain of Dreams -> Poke -> Final Destination -> Kongo -> Dreamland

edit: as far as what characters benefit, besides a few easy ones like sheik on BF, marth on YS, falcon on FD, etc, it also depends on the match up between the two chars. Like peach and samus are both good on dreamland cause their survivability is insane, but you might chose to opt out playing on dreamland in favor of battlefield if you're the peach since samus' recovery loses some options.

2edit: You could collect this information and add it to the everything ever thread ;)

That's a great help in of itself, thanks a lot! :D I've also heard, on the YouTube vids of pound, rom and Genesis, That sheik does well on fod as well. And as for matchups, like you were saying, fox vs Marth on fd, ouch. I can see how that alters things. Again thx for That info.

I wonder if anyone has some pictures of all the stages showing the blastlines. In AR I can tilt the cam to look at them, but I'm not sure if I can zoom out to get a full shot.

thanks, winnar. :D

L___: I love the fact that the game takes skill. you cant just mash the buttons and win. or hold the fire button and spin in a circle. the moves are calculated and precise to the frame, and the skilled players need to know that. i know this is a hot topic, and im not TRYING to open a can of worms lol.... but brawl lacks that competitive edge that melee has. its very...."everyone friendly".

I saw a guy who used it at a tournament in Berlin lol^
There was a video of Amsah trying it out but now I can't find it D:

@the arcade stick
Yeah have fun taunting and not moving :(
I'd love to see Melee played with an arcade stick (just for the heck of it, GC controller is obviously better for this game) but arcade sticks don't have analog control.
You could play TvC on Wii with it though.

Now that I think about it, why even make an arcade stick for Gamecube? I think fighting game players at the time pretty much sticked to PS2, PC or arcade, since there weren't really any fighting games for Gamecube (save for Melee, a few crappy ones and maybe one or two good ones).

Arcade sticks don't have analog control, but doesn't all gamecube fighters use the analog to move. If the stick doesn't have analog control it'll defeat the purpose of the stick unless there's d-pad fighters..

Am I missing something....I'm confused.
The only flaw I see is not being able to taunt :urg:

Idk, but what I do know is that the control stick on an arcade stick does the exact same thing as the D-pad on the GC controller. Input with the control stick is read by the console as input on the D-pad, so not being able to taunt should be the least of your worries.

Afaik Soul Calibur 2 can be played with both analog stick and D-pad. It would make sense if this was true for other fighting games on the system, so this wouldn't really be a problem.
Actually, Melee is the only fighting game that I know of that actually uses the control stick's analog functions (like walking/dashing, tilts/smashes and DI, all of which would be impossible or impractical on a regular arcade stick).
