I've had some pretty sick combos recently and I wish I could watch them a second time. I need a capture card to record them but I'm not about to spend 200$ on a happauge. So please can you provide this poor noob with a nice capture card? And please include links.

One option is using the Wifi version to get working replays to record in Dolphin. It's free and gets the best quality if your computer is good and has a large amount of space, not to mention the Wifi version also has a comfortable to press air dodge I've come to enjoy.

For live recording:

Best are all the Happauge and Elgato stuff: which CAN record in Component, they're closer to ~$100 than $200 at a good price. Even recording in S-video with these gives great quality. You'll also need the cables
http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-Definition-Component-Cable-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B000NU9VPW/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1371873201&sr=1-7&keywords=wii s-video

Next is S-video recording, which most cheap capture cards do. You'll also need the cables
http://www.amazon.com/AV-Composite-Yellow-S-Video-Stereo/dp/B004C4SBS8/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1371873201&sr=1-9&keywords=wii s-video

This is the one I use (I've advertised them so much now they should be sending me money). Worked on my Windows 7 and even Windows 8
http://www.amazon.com/KWorld-Expert-Video-Maker-KW-USB2800D/dp/B000234SMQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371873133&sr=8-1&keywords=usb 2.0 capture device k world

I use the cable mentioned above, and either record replays using the S-video while the Composite video is plugged in (a full strength Video signal is sent to both so you only need two splitters for the Audio), or If I'm streaming/recording live I want to play in the better quality so I play with the S-video and record with the composite.

This is my top quality (using reasonably short rendering settings, otherwise you can spend hours to render the best de-interlaces and de-noisers). I still could probably get better

Metroid uses the same device, and as you can see cable and render settings give different outcomes (I don't think he de-interlaces, which normally I don't care either since I use to record my TV with a camera pointed at it but it's what the people want)

Another bonus of recording replays is you can then switch it to Widescreen (unless you play in Widescreen, which would probably mean you're playing on an HDTV) which then you can scale the video to be widescreen: which makes it have no black sides (You'll also whether it's widescreen or not want to scale it to 720 or 1080 since Youtube is dumb and will degrade quality 480 videos).

Thanks, but I still have a few questions. I'm probably going to purchase the KWorld USB 2.0, but does it require any additional cables or wires?

Audio doesn't go through the USB but is a seperate Out-put cable of 3.5mm which requires a Mic input, which my laptop didn't have so I had to buy this.

It's also wise then to buy a USB and 3.5mm extension cables. As well as a USB Hub for streaming with cameras and all that

Ok thank you for your help but I still have 1 question! I've been looking up tutorials for this specific device, and these people are using splitters and double ended av cables, are these all required in order to set up the KWorld? Once more, thank you for your help.

If you don't use the almighty S-video+Composite cable, you'll need 3 splitters (One for Composite video, two for left and right audio). Otherwise if you get the cable you'll only need 2 (but should buy a third anyways) since you can record S-video while playing Composite video (or the opposite): it sends a full strength video signal to both the S-video and Composite output

Feel free to get any other device as long as it has an S-video recording cable as well, this one even has Component for $19 and gave this quality (although I have no clue if he used Component)

Here's a short synapses of what I use for streaming/recording. It could certainly be better but quality maximization gets too cray

Streaming: Xsplit [Full version, torrent a crack] Audio 128 AAC, Video Resolution 1280x720, Quality 10, Video Bit-rate 4000 (or whatever close to that your internet can handle). I also right click the video input to be" de-interlaced: optimized".

Recording: Virtual Dub [Free]

This guide is pretty similar with what it talks about for Virtual Dub but I have a few exceptions:
-For replays I switch Brawl to Wide screen in settings, and then I resize the video with one of the Virtual dub pre-installed plug-ins (Aspect changer or something, I resize it to 1280x720).
- I use this which is superior to Xvid (the guide is out-dated) http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/
- There's more deinterlacers out there that are better than the standard he uses (which I do as well): but the ones that do the best job make it take forever to render the video [If someone knows a good but fast one that's easy to work with in Vdub do tell]

Ok I know it has been a while but I have the capture card and components all set up but I have one last question! I need a software that will let me record using this card, because it came with power director 7 and it barely works. I can't edit or render anything, all I can do is record a standard, fuzzy, mpg video :( if you know of any other programs that are free and good please tell me, once more thank you

The k-world 2.0 or the other thing I linked? If it's the K-world: Yeah there's like two DVDs (or one with both software I forget), ones to make the capture card work which you need to install (the drivers), the other is just stupid software they gave you to use that would work with any capture card: which you'll want to not install. You'll instead use Virtual Dub or Xsplit like I mentioned, it'll detect the device after you have the drivers installed.

Are you windows 7 or 8? If the driver doesn't work re-install under Vista compatability mode

Well the driver worked perfectly its just the program it came with does not, and even worse it won't let me delete the program :/
I have windows 7 32-bit

Ok I have one last question for you and then I'm done, I swear. I just need to know how to get the optimum quality out of this capture card. I've fiddled around with the settings but my videos all turn out in bad quality, how to you get it to be better?

I'm deciding between the KWorld 2.0 and a Dazzle, which I can get from Amazon 'Used - Like New' for $35 (it's a red one). I've heard that the Dazzle is better, but in what ways? Is it worth the slightly higher price? Also, I'm looking into live-streaming and I'm not sure how my laptop (with Windows 7) will handle it. Are there different system requirements between live streaming and just recording?

Also, would I still need to get the gold plated S-vid cable, the 2 splitters, and a double ended AV cable for better quality?

Did you ever get the Kworld to work going from the last private message?
