As i posted on FB several months ago, i applied to volunteer as a host for a MLG Grassroots event. I did this so that Brawl/Melee could possibly (if we show enough support) get another shot in terms of becoming one of MLG's main games in their upcoming season. My application was accept and i have been given permission to run a MLG supported grassroot event this coming May 2014. For the MLG Grassroots Program, MLG will be providing logistical support for each event to help the community grow. This support includes their event knowledge, attributed hardware, expertise, advertising and streaming the event on MLG.tv. On top of that MLG will be using the results of each event for seeding purposes when/if MLG operates any official circuit Smash events in 2014. The only way to get smash in MLG is to show the very same support you all did for Evo last year. Attend this event (as well as the other MLG events) to the max and spread the world of these events to the ends of the earth and beyond. Make MLG understand that smash is as important as Halo, WoW, SC2 or any other game out there. We can become anything we want to be in terms of e-sports or the FGC ....ect we just need to show up and support these event. LETS DO THIS!!!!!

EDIT: Frigate Orpheon has been added to the CP stage list.
EDIT: The LGL has been extended to 50 for all characters except MK.

Melee Rules: The tournament will abide by the Apex 2014 Official Rules: https://www.apex-series.com/rules/melee/

Project M Rules: The tournament will abide by the Apex 2014 Official Rules: https://www.apex-series.com/rules/projectm/

PSA Rules: The tournament will abide by the rules found in the OP of this thread: http://community.us.playstation.com...tle/PS-All-Stars-MLG-Tournament/td-p/43150394

As we all know, the speed of a tournament is largely dependent on the number of setups available to play on. A good friend of mine will be providing about 6 setups for us to use at WHOBO but obviously we need many more. Please help the speed of the tournament by bringing a full setup with you to WHOBO. If you cannot bring a full setup, please try to at least bring something. If we fail to have an adequate number of setups, i will ban all casuals/MMs during the tournament.

The first 5 players of each game who bring a full setup (wii or gcn/ssbb or ssbm/tv) will get a laminated smash poster (created by AirBrushKing) to take home and a few free drink coupons to use downstairs in Zuma's food area.

OPTION 1: Make posts in this thread and Houston players will probably come to your aide and house you. I know for a fact that Sync (713)-201-8338 is notorious for housing people when it is tournament time in Houston. OOS players have priority when it comes to housing. Beware, Sync may charge a small 5$ fee for housing. Give him a call/text.

OPTION 2: Go to http://www.hotels.com and type in the address to WHOBO and it will find you ALL the hotels (from dirt cheap to mega expensive) in a 20 mile radius of the WHOBO venue. DO THIS ASAP OR YOU RISK THE CHANCE AT HAVING THE ROOMS ALREADY FILLED.

OPTION 3: Make a post here or on FB to find out which fellow smasher is staying in a hotel near the venue. Offer to help pay for some of the cost and they would probably allow you to stay with them. By doing that, you get housing AND its cheaper for everybody involved. I highly recommend this.

OPTION 4: http://www.couchsurfing.org/ this site allows you to find free housing from people all around the usa (in this case, you want Houston Tx ). However, you will not know who the person is until you arrive at their house (you can always call them ahead of time if you need to). There have been several smashers/my brother who have done this and reported back saying it was an AWESOME experience. Its 99.99% safe from what i hear but take caution just in case.

From my experience, the cheapest plane tickets can be found on Orbitz, Priceline and HotWire but there may be others so you might want to search by yourself or ask others. Remember, try to arrive and depart on a WEEKDAY (mon-thurs) so that you can get even LOWER rates. If you wish to ride by bus, i highly recommend http://us.megabus.com/Default.aspx because sometimes they offer 1$ bus rides. If you need help, just ask in this thread or on FB.

Here are the results of WHOBO 1, WHOBO 2, WHOBO 3, WHOBO 4 (mk banned), WHOBO 5 (mk banned) in case you want to see some WHOBO history.

In order to be able to run this event for MLG, i had to come to some sort of agreement on rulesets. I ended up getting a few of my requests like

1. MK haveing 35 LGLs and evey one else at 50
2. Added Frigate to the CP stage list
3. No double MK in doubles

But not one single TO would agree to banning MK. So ill just take what i can get.

MK's legal.
Not entering.

:applejack:
then enter PM or Melee. i know you can play both of those games.

I'm assuming the ruleset will be not be too different from MLG's ruleset, so...

I'll support either way Xyro

It's just surprising to me to be honest.

Especially with how much time you've spent building your brand on the MK issue, I figured if anyone would hold out and hold on it would be Papa Xyro.

If this wasnt an MLG thing i wouldnt be doing another WHOBO. Also, because my views on MK are such of a minority in the TO world, no other MLG grassroot TO supports MK banned. So i had to choose to either do the event with MK legal or not do it at all because MK banned would not be accepted as the official ruleset. Supporting MLG is a huge deal and can set the stage for smash 4. Im looking towards the future with this event.

On the FB group, several people are asking for the 2 side events i had at WHOBO 5. For them, it determines if they are going or not.

What would you guys think of Brawl Mid tier 1vs1 and Low tier 2vs2 as side events??

I 2nd this. People have to see the bright picture at the end of the day. Me and Xyro are going to announce the new series soon so the future opportunities are endless after working with MLG. Please understand this and support this event so more opportunities can happen and we can continue to grow!

Low tier doubles are really stupid and you're the only TO that does them, do LT singles so I can redeem myself and win.

That is very noble of u Lord Xyro. I really hope I can make this, it would my first MLG supported tournament and second WHOBO/national. If I don't have any final exams on that following Monday (which so far I don't) then I will do everything I can to attend.

My semester ends around the same time so I think I am covered in terms of dates. Sad to hear Batman will be at WUMBO but I understand the bigger picture of what you want to accomplish. May Superman ensure Batman doesn't get at least 1st place.

I'd like to come to this, but if there's 200 cap, I really doubt I'll be able to see if I can come by then or not.

Plan ahead by buying early. Remember, you only need to buy venue. The event fees can be paid in person.

Yeah, but I take it that venue fee is non-refundable, right? :p
Yea its non refundable but buying venue will guarantee you a spot at the tournament. Once registration reaches the maximum capacity then I will make an announcement cutting off registration. To you and everyone it is best to buy your venue now cause spots are filling up!

I may have lost to the good sis Ally's captain falcon many years ago when I was but a young smasher….

But now that were doing low tiers I do hope you gerls have glued, sewn, stapled your wigs on TIGHTLY.

Like….
You tier whores better start practicing your Marios and Samuses ahead of time cause I am coming with the intention of snatching them all in the low tier event.

I'm talking all the follicles, leaving you bald and smoldering in the Texas heat.

I'll do what I can to make this since I don't think I can go to SKTAR. Hopefully there's a carpool from KS.
