Masahiro Sakurai to start work on next Super Smash Bros. installment

After the successful Super Smash Bros. (N64) and Super Smash Bros. Melee (GCN), development has begun on a third installment in the Super Smash Bros. franchise. Masahiro Sakura is once again director for what has come to be known as Super Smash Bros. Brawl and will be updating www.smashbros.com with information on mechanics and features. It seems likely for third party characters to join the “brawl” this time around and fan speculation suggests Sonic, Mega Man, Solid Snake and Crono are the most probable candidates. Additionally, Sakurai has expressed his wish to expand on aerial combat and introduce a revolutionary new mechanic that involves characters falling over. The game will be exclusive to Nintendo’s Wii console and is expected to come out in 2007.
