I think it might just be the reveal shot that gives you that impression, because yeah, he did look weird and shiny there.
But in further gameplay bits I noticed that he blends in much better than my initial impression of him.

Probably a quirk of the new lighting that will be fixed later on

I was thinking this same thing. It seems like he's had the same model for awhile now, and I think it could have used an update to his proportions to match a little more like how he looks in Odyssey. I think he looks a lot better in Odyssey than in Smash. Maybe they wanted to retain his model since he is the "super star". I just think it feels dated and his proportions kind of bug me.
He does look good in his Odyssey and MM attire, so maybe it's just something about his normal outfit that's not right.
