This thread is inspired by Venus of the Desert Bloom Venus of the Desert Bloom 's 2 threads the Super Smash Bros. Infinite thread and the MvC4 thread I really like this style so I am replicating it for Mario Kart

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was really good but it was just Mario Kart 8 with a battle mode and a few characters and there hasn't been new Mario Kart content outside of Home Circuit and Tour. So this will function like the 2 threads above, there will be several jobs that have a specific job that anyone can submit a answer too etc. etc. This one isn't nearly as involved as the other threads on this site so this one will almost certainly not turn out like that and as a result each job will take longer.

For the sake of this project, Yoshi, Donkey Kong and Wario games will be considered Mario franchises.

These are the job categories

Job #2: New Mechanic

Special Item Rework
Special Items from Double Dash and Tour have been one of my favorite parts of the franchise, but I've always wondered about alternative skill-based ways to get them. Here's what I came up with:

Every racer has a unique special item like in Double Dash. The item roulette slot now has a number next to it that changes depending on the item (for example, if you're playing as Mario or Luigi who has the Fire Flower, the number is 5. If you're playing as Bowser or Bowser Jr. who have the Bowser Shell, the number is 6.) This number decreases by 1 every time you land a hit with a normal item such as bananas, shells, Bob-ombs, whatever. When it reaches 0, you get a special item!

The numbers vary per character for balancing reasons. More powerful special items have higher numbers.

-Double Dash!!
Job 7

Double Dash!

The races are now structured like Mario Kart Double Dash, you have 2 drivers that can hold their own items and you can switch them at will.
-Story Missions
Job 38: Story Missions

Basically what you'd get if you mashed a traditional Mario spin-off story with Mario Kart DS's mission mode. The story wouldn't be too complicated (it's Mario Kart, it'd be kind of cheesy if we tried doing that) and only really serves as a way of giving context to the missions.

It would be split into 7 to 9 "worlds", each world containing a handful of missions. Quite a lot of these take place on existing tracks, but there are some that take place in arenas/locations/tracks exclusive to this mode. Mission types are taken from Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Tour, and there are a few new ones exclusive to this mode as well.

Mission Type Examples:
Race Through Gates (DS)
Break Item Boxes (DS)
Drive Backwards (DS)
Bosses (DS)
Enemy Takedown (Tour)
Glider Challenge (Tour)
Steer Clear of Obstacles (Tour)
Elimination Race (New)
250cc (New)

Each world ends in a boss fight, which have various clear conditions (drivers are assigned and special items are usually disabled). Some examples:

Topmaniac
Arena:
A large circle bordered by an electric fence
Item boxes give: Mushrooms, Feathers
Use Feathers to jump on top of him to disable his spikes, then use Mushrooms to knock him into the ring!

Motley Bossblob
Arena:
A small oval course, similar to Baby Park
Item boxes give: Bananas, Double Cherries
Motley chases you throughout this course. Use multiple Bananas to trip him, making him split into many small blobs (which can simply be defeated by driving into them). Drive into his defenseless true form to lower his HP!

Also cutscenes. Everyone loves cutscenes.
Looking at you, Sakurai

Driver Bios

Job 14: Driver Bios

Unlocking new drivers will unlock their driver bios. (Starting roster drivers have theirs unlocked from the start).

A driver bio basically shows a 3D model of the character in an idle animation next to a brief description of said character. Similar to the character bios from the N64 Smash Bros.

Current Bios:

-Mario
-Game & Watch Mario
Does Mario seem different to you? Well, that's because he is! This version of Mario hailed from the multiscreen Mario Bros. Game & Watch released in 1983! In that game, you work in a bottling company and load packages of bottles into a truck through multiple rising conveyor belts! Drop three boxes and it's game over! He got roped into the Super Grand Prix by accident while making a delivery, but the prize of the tourney was what ultimately drew him in.
-Luigi
-Peach
-Daisy
-Rosalina
-Yoshi
-Toad
-Toadette
-Donkey Kong
-Wario
"Wario is the greediest guy in the Mushroom Kingdom - whether he's pushing out shovelware or stealing pirates' gold, he'll do anything for a quick buck. His hygeine is lacking (the only reason his teeth are so clean is because he picks out and eats individual bacteria, ew!) and he can get violent at the most inconvenient times, but he has a heart - albeit a very small one - and some close friends who are willing to put up with his delinquency... when he's not underpaying them at least."
-Waluigi
"Waluigi is a crafty guy who cheats at every sport he can. He's not exactly as fowl a player as Wario (who his relationship to is unknown) but is much more sneaky and subtle in his tricks. He doesn't have very good control of his emotions, so he doesn't take losing well - matter of fact, he doesn't take winning well either, you can call him a "sore winner". Nobody really knows what he's up to when he's not sporting or scheming."
-Bowser
-Bowser Jr.
-Nabbit
-Kamek
-Diddy Kong
-Dixie Kong
-Funky Kong
-Cappy
-Birdo
-Wart
-King Boo
-The Koopalings
-King K. Rool
"King K. Rool is Donkey Kong's worst enemy and a crocodile of many faces - whether he's stealing bananas or trying to blow up the entire jungle he's always got some ridiculous, elaborate disguise and weapons themed around it. He hasn't had many clashes with the Kong clan lately - have the monkey buddies made peace with the cold-blooded monarch, or has he been preparing a secret counterattack for 2 decades going? That's up to your imagination... for now!"
-Vivian
"Vivian is a good friend of an alternate Mario counterpart, she at one point worked with her nasty big sisters to stop Mario but eventually joined his side. Vivian and her sisters have since made up and no longer squabble. Vivian has incredible powers like melting into the shadow and creating fire. This is her first time at a Mario Sports event so she'd prefer to stay out of the spotlight."
-Ashley
-Professor E. Gadd
-Pauline
-Mini Mario
Built in Mario's likeness, these robots have become a popular commodity for toy collectors. The ones racing in the Super Grand Prix are specially designed to run off the same feul as the car there driving so not to worry about losing there wind up. Although originally built in the Mushroom Kingdom popular demand has allowed these toys to move there factories to the Metro Kingdom which is ran by Mayor Pauline herself.
-The Stork
-King Bob-omb
-Miis

Job #1 Submit a New Mario Character and a Returning Mario Character

These characters will be part of our first trailer.

You can submit any character as long as they are from Mario and for the returning ones it can be any character that has been playable in any Mario Kart game including Tour.

For the sake of this project, Yoshi, Donkey Kong and Wario games will be considered Mario franchises.

But when submitting New characters explain Why should they be included in Mario Kart.

This Job will be active for about 24 Hours. (I will probably end it early)

Professor E. Gadd

Professor E. Gadd is an inventor renowned for many gadgets including the Poltergust and the FLUDD. While he may seem old and frail, he is eager to show these whipper-snappers a thing or two about living life on the edge! While he ain’t a particular important character, his inclusion would be welcomed by fans as well as tie in Luigi’s Mansion content.

Nabbit

This is a new era of Mario Kart so let’s add a newer character! Nabbit may not be a huge character but he made quite the splash in Mario Wii U so why not include him yet again! He could steal the show so to speak

Job #1: Kamek and Funky Kong

New: Kamek
1615932603814.png

Kamek has been in the Mario series for a long while, and was even going to be in the original Mario Kart but was cut for unknown reasons, it's a huge crime he isn't even in the mobile game yet.

Returning: Funky Kong
1615933014766.png

Funky Kong is the raddest conservative character in the Mario series, and even though he may only appear in 1 mainline MK game, he still had a strong impact on the series and is loved by tons of people.

New Mario Character:

Goomba

He is one of the primary enemies Mario had faced many times throughout the games, has yet to make its debut in a Mario Kart series.

Returning Mario Character:

King Bob-Omb

Like Pauline, he too was playable in Mario Kart Tour and one of the bosses of Super Mario 64 has yet to be in a main Mario Kart game.

EDIT: Meant to say Pauline not Palutena.

Fury Bowser

This is arguably one of the best incarnations of Bowser ever made in recent memory. Having Fury Bowser as a playable character unusual for the game is something that would be very interesting.

Returning Character:
1615934157477.png

Diddy Kong

After an 11 year absence in the series, Diddy Kong made his return in Mario Kart Tour. This gives Diddy an influx of support for future titles, and that support should be capitalized.

EDIT: Forgot that Nabbit was in MKT.

Job #1:
New Mario character:
Vivian

How about we break the "mandate" a little? Vivian only appeared in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door with two or three extremely small cameos since. She has a devoted fandom, a cute design and memorable personality, being one of the few Mario characters to have their own character arc. She'd also bring a degree of diversity to the roster, given that she was depicted as transgender in some countries. We can decide later whether to portray her in 2D or 3D, as well as how she'd ride a bike one-legged.

Returning Mario character:
Monty Mole

Monty is a popular character who has lots of official merchandise. His appearances in Tour and Super Party were generally well recieved and he's pretty cute too.

Job 1:
New Mario Character: King K. Rool

King K. Rool is the main antagonist of the Donkey Kong Country trilogy. While he has been dormant for a long time, he is very popular and recently had an appearance in an obscure indie title called Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Returning character:
Petey Piranha

Petey Piranha is a semi reaccuring character in the Mario series, who strangely has only ever appeared in one installment of the Mario Kart series despite being in TWO main series games, so I think his return is warranted

New Mario character: Poochy
1615939739655.png

A recurring character from the Yoshi series who made an unexpected appearance in Super Mario Odyssey. He behaves much like any dog, and sticks his tongue out while he races.

Returning character: King Boo
1615939444521.png

Luigi's nemesis, who has made a playable appearance in several Mario Kart entries. Mario Kart Tour made the decision of adding both King Boo's Mario Kart design and his Luigi's Mansion design to the game as separate characters. With that said, I believe that they should be added as alternative skins, preferably with his LM design as the default.

NEW MARIO CHARACTER: Borque Monsieur

Mario Kart has a large and varied roster, but you know what it doesn't have enough of? RPG characters. Borque Monsieur is a French...er, Brock?...who debuted in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. A pretty underrated character himself, Borque is a pretty funny guy, and has a lot of personality. I think it would be really neat to have a character who is an actual block-would make for some fun taunts! This would be a pretty fun left-field pick.

RETURNING MARIO CHARACTER: DONKEY KONG JR

Up until a few months ago, Donkey Kong Jr was the only Super Mario Kart character to not reappear in the series as playable...that is, until he made his grand return in Tour!...as a 2D sprite. Still, it's awesome that he came back, and I think the warm welcome he got from fans warrants him a spot in MK9.

Job #1

New Mario Character: Boshi
660A56D7-9FD9-4249-AA40-5C167D6C8FE0.png

Boshi was first introduced in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Boshi is the bad version of Yoshi (Yoshi’s Wario/Waluigi). I picked Boshi, because his story in Super Mario RPG would line up perfectly for Mario Kart.
In Super Mario RPG, it’s revealed that Boshi won the Mushroom Derby on Yo’ster Island to become leader of the Yoshi forever. It’s up to you and Yoshi to rematch Boshi to stop his eternal rule of the island.
Boshi’s reveal would shock the entire Mario Kart community. Boshi would tell everyone that if there’s a Mario character, even if they are from a spin-off or one time appearance, they have the chance to race in Mario Kart.

Returning Mario Character: Wiggler
8EAB2318-AE39-40F1-B33A-CD8FEA7C6B1A.png

Wrigglers are a species of caterpillar that first appeared in Super Mario World. They are slow moving peaceful creatures, unless they are stomped on. Wriggler was such a fun addition in Mario Kart 7, I think it would be fun if one returned in this new Mario Kart game.

1. Fury Bowser (seems like an interesting and out of left field pick to showcase the diversity of the upcoming roster)

3 Poochy (everyone’s adorable pup needs to get included sometime)

Returning
1. King Bomb Omb (bound to make an explosion)

Still up Peach's dress.
Newcomer:
  1. Kamek. The guy has been robbed twice of appearing in Mario Kart having been planned for Mario Kart 64 AND Mario Kart 8 and for some reason was scrapped both times! No more! Add him in I say!
  2. Goomba. Goomba have had a hard life in Mario Kart. In Tour they're obstacles to be blown up! Let Goomba behind the wheel!
  3. E.Gadd. Like Kamek, E.Gadd was once planned in Mario Kart 7 but was swapped for Dry Bones. This man deserves to be in the greater Mario universe!
Veterans:
  1. Nabbit. As one of the few playable characters in Mario mainline platformers, it's always struck me as odd Nabbit isn't a more standard inclusion in Mario rosters. Keep him here.
  2. King Bob-Omb. Unironically my favourite Mario boss and one of my most used in Tour. With him coming to Mario Golf soon, I want to see the great bob-omb king become a Mario staple!
  3. Pauline. Was a difficult choice between her and Diddy for third, but she just edges him out for me here.

Job #2

Submit a Brand New Mechanic

This can be something as major as 2 drivers as seen in Double Dash or something as minor as Anti-gravity. This mechanic can effect both Gameplay or Track Design or even both!

Progressive Destruction System:

As you play through a race, more often than not, you're likely to be hit by items like shells, fireballs, and Piranha Plants. This is where the Progressive Destruction System comes to play:

Depending on which kart you have, you start off at a slow speed (though not enough to be too slow) and a very easy-to-control level of drifting, but you start to slowly lose plating on your car dependant on the strength of the item that hits you: on one end you have the Fire Flower which does minimal damage, on the other end, you have the Blue Shell, which completely strips your car of its plating. There is a tradeoff for this, however: the less plating you have, the faster your kart will go and the harder it will be to control. Some have less armor like the Biddybuggy and the Streetle, while others like the Landship and the Badwagon are much more reinforced.

Off-Roading

On certain portions of tracks, Your Karts wheels gain spikes of some sort and instead of following a linear path, the Track will instead open-up massively and you can drive anywhere within the walls, These massive off-road sections have branching paths, hidden paths, Enemies, changing routes and anything of that sort. You do eventually join back up with the main track to complete the race. The chaos of these sections would cause confusion when it comes to calculating race positions, so the positions are calculated once you leave the Area.

NEW MECHANIC: ITEM PURCHASE
Don't you hate it when you're in first place and have 10 coins, but you keep getting coins from item boxes? That's where Item Purchase comes in. Simply press the designated button when you have 3 coins, and your item circle thing will start to spin, as if you just hit an item box! However there is risk/reward here, as you could easily get the coin item and end up with a net loss of one coin.

Stop Boosts.
Stop Boosting is a mechanic where you can make your kart stop in place and charge up a boost. This boost, at max charge, goes slightly further than two Mushrooms, but not as much as three. It's a risk and reward mechanic as you still need to stop in place before charging ahead, requiring it be used at the right times. It can also bypass the Blue Shell at max charge.

Job #2: Cup Holders
Oh no.png

According to Dave Reynolds on Quora when asked "Why do race car drivers have drink dispensers mounted in their cars," "For the same reason that people who work out in gyms, play football, baseball and basketball, as well as other physical activities carry water bottles with them: because driving is strenuous and hot. They need to hydrate themselves. Without hydration it is unlikely any racers would be able to finish a race."
So now let's get this straight, not only are these guys driving in low gravity, upside down, with constant items being thrown at them, but they don't even have a way to drink liquid mid-race, they have a chance of dying mid-race without hydration. I think all karts, bikes, and whatever else must be equipped with a cup holder.

There is no in-game mechanic, we need to keep these racers safe.

Edit: Oh yeah, just remembered this has to include an in-game mechanic. So, I guess by shaking your wii-remote or doing whatever it is to do a trick mid-ramp-jump, but if you do that after being hit, you drink some water. While it has a long startup, it makes your character make a sound of happiness after having a refreshing drink.

Job #2:
Jumping/Kart Spring

I'll start off by saying that in terms of gimmicks for racing, there's very few places for Mario Kart to go without taking away the simplicity for casual audiences. With that said, I'll present my idea and how it could be implemented

Jumping is basically the core of the Mario series, and the only attempt at translating this into Mario Kart is through the feather item, which in one appearance was absolutely broken, and in the other was pretty close to useless and reserved as a battle mode item.
What I have in mind is that instead of bringing the feather back as an item, we add jumping as a gameplay mechanic in the same way that there is zero gravity and underwater driving, and base track design around this concept.

I believe that adding this as a normal ability that you could pull off at any time would be hard to balance as you could just skip large portions of the track or make items like bananas and shells useless by spamming a button and jumping over them, so instead what will happen is that in specific areas of some tracks the kart will shift into a new form, and with the press of a specific button, you will spring into the air. I've got two ideas for the visual queue of this: Either the tires become bigger as they are expanded by springs going around the tire, or the tire splits in half and opens up, revealing a spring hidden within. In track segments that combine both zero gravity and spring jumping, the spring would simply be located on the side of the tire as the wheel shifts sideways, and emit a green shine instead of blue as a visual queue. Jumping while being boosted by a mushroom will send you jumping even higher and help you reach some shortcuts.

You could be racing on the streets of New Donk City and take an alternative path by jumping onto one of the rooftops.
You could be racing by the edge of an abyss and need to time your jumps correctly to get across a gap which a simple ramp would not give you enough distance to clear.
You could be racing on a space station surrounded by asteroids and small planets where you could be driving normally but the next part of the track is a zero gravity section directly above you, and you have to jump in order to be caught within its gravity and keep on racing, then jump again onto a wall, and so on.(Getting Pokémon Platinum's Distortion World vibes from this description actually.)

In track designs based around this it's important to give racers queues for when they need to jump, like arrows on the walls pointing upwards, warning the player that they should get ready for a jump. Additionally, as I've implied before, green lights would decorate the roads, much how like blue lights decorate zero gravity sections, and in instances where it's both combined, it's simply two lights at the same time.

I'm not very confident in my execution, but I do think that there is potential for an idea like this to work if pulled off correctly.

Ok, I’m here to present my idea for what could make Mario Kart revolutionary. Some of you may scoff but please hear me out because what I’m about to propose is to include....

Yes. War Rigs.

They are mechanical beasts of war constructed to wage war in order to start a war. The War Rigs are massive karts with plenty of tools to dominate the raceways of Mushroom Kingdom or the irradiated Australian outback. The war rigs comes complete with tons of war-waging features like harpoons that rip out other car’s engines, pikes with explosives attached to them, ports to orally infuse rocket fuel to gain an extra boost, and a crew of crazy painted-up mother ****ers. They can sii out all up damage and dish it out equally. Legally, they can sit up to 8 moderately sized Koopa Troopas comfortably but in areas where standard road laws to not apply, up to 50 have been seen riding one. Also, if you have enough water, plant seeds, or bullets, you can hire a blind/mute guitarist who converted his guitar into a flamethrower and a rowdy band of enslaved drummers.

Of course, including this would have to change the Mario Kart: Bowser’s Fury Road and we would have to add Max, Immortan Joe, Imperator Furiosa, and Nux.

For real though...

Customizable Costumes

Slap on the wedding hat onto Mario, give Peach Shadow Peach’s dress, and give DK some boxing gloves. Some costumes are based on actual appearances in other games while others are originals to MK9.
